This record is about hard sadness and of heartbreak imbued with the humble expressions of the indescribable beauty of this existence which rings true through all of it, for all time. 

Musically, I am compelled toward long-form live improvisations that go on for 20-30 minutes. I then edit and manipulate and polish, carving and sculpting over and over, long days often for months on an album until it becomes a truer version of itself that was not there at conception. Much like life! I then pick the best section for the songs that infer their own structure. Also included on this album are short-form telescopic soundprints where I use a dronier and more layered approach. 

Some very personal meditations make up tracks 5 and 7 and 9 of Homeworld. During a very hard and also heart-breaking beginning to the New Year of 2020 (even before the pandemic!) I recorded the pieces Sadness Too Deep and Ode to Scotty allowing the expressions of both the pain and the beauty which rang so true then, still and always. Supporting the song Ode to Scotty is a long field recording I captured in our apple orchard on the afternoon of March 3, 2020, a full moon with very heavy grey weather. Soon afterwards came the very bad news. Two days later the music was improvised while meditating with these creatures’ songs and was originally a seventeen minute piece. 

Yes. Nature sounds. I am 100% addicted. Waters. Melodic winged-ones. Insects. So cliché and yet it melts my soul good. I love manipulating the recordings into a designed sound sometimes. In consort with the music it just puts me in a trance: when I am playing, when I am editing and afterwards as a listener! The combination of the piano-centric sounds and the earth samples can make one think of the new age style but these are very deliberately poised away from such deliberations to keep something I cannot put my finger on; perhaps a shying away from rhythm or repetitions; rather more like water flowing, moving over rocks; not as a clock ticking or a song singing. The exception is a new color appearing as Emerald Nymphs; this Hipnotic Earth composition uses tempo and bass and drum with inferred and sparse effects, a style I will be expanding with. The older Lakeboat is included here, another strangely hypnotic track whose call for the light of day is answered in Homeworld. I can listen to this track forever, it does something to me. I hope it does to you, too.

DJ and sound artist with Radiomentale and Quiet Voices, Jean-Yves Leloup was also, as a journalist, one of the privileged witnesses of the emergence of the electro movement, which he echoed through articles, radio shows and books, including Ambient Music (2021), Techno 100 (2018), Global Techno (1999) and Digital Magma: from the utopia of rave parties to the iPod generation (2006).
As a curator, he leads numerous projects at the intersection of art and music, such as the listening devices The Listener (2017) and Audiolab (2001-2003), and the exhibitions Electrosound (2016) and Electro (2019-2022).
RadioMentale's latest album "The Landscape Melts Into Itself" was released in 2021 by Irradiant Hologram.
Quiet Voices' ep "Hantologies", will be released in March 2022 by Sähkö Recordings.

"This mix came together over a 2/3 month period, as I've spent a large part of the summer between Oregon and California with family and haven't had much dedicated time to focus on a mix. Normally I approach mixes more conceptually, but this one came to life organically in pieces, over time. In hindsight, the mix reflects a specific period in time for me and a lot of my life musically over the past few months. 'With this mix I wanted to experiment with some of the folk music that I collected during these years of traveling around the globe. I wanted to combine a certain type of traditional world music, mainly Asian, with a raw and enveloping ambient and electro-acoustic background. Inside there are aspects of Mongolian, Japanese, Taiwanese and South Korean music culture, together with field-recordings by Hafdís Bjarnadóttir from Iceland and electronic compositions by Eliane Radigue, Pete Namlook, Carlo Giustini, Loscil and Music For Sleep. My aim is to submit the listener to a different approach to listening to folk music, creating a soundscape that fully reflects the experiences and emotions during those travels.'

"In the Nada Brahma book I find the words:
"with the Sufis is the name of the original sound "Saute Surmad": 
the sound that fills space. "
In this mix there's a track from Chi Factory's Hanyo v. Oosterrom called "Saute Soermad", I think he means it too. 
I think that's how it could have started.

Spiritual travel is my second mix for the great guys of "Nature Tales". Planned as a "one and only mix", it quickly became clear that the multiplicity of tracks and the somewhat different mood required a split into two mixes. "Spiritual Journey" has definitely become darker than the "Tropical Mysteries" version. It was a long way from planning, track selection and tricky in the details. I hope you like it."

Emika Elena is a Berlin based techno DJ / producer from Tokyo and founder of the record label, Human Lessons.
Music has always been a huge part of her life, ever since she started playing piano in her family home at the age of 4, but it was the discovery of techno in her early teens that led her to become a DJ.
Having played one of the top venues such as Contact, VENT, eleven, UNIT, Origami, Air, Dommune and so on.
In 2016, she officially launched Human Lessons and released a solo EP titled ”Delicate Details”. 
One year later, she collaborated with Ryogo Yamamori, on a new EP ”Confusion” which was a limited edition vinyl release on her label. 
Gathering attention by being played by big name producers and radio programs such as BBC Radio1 and Deep Space Helsinki, she was significant success in first European tour in 2018. 
Her trademark sound is all about hypnotic darkness, influenced by soundtracks and cinematic scores.

So we have a special one for you today. I have the pleasure to welcome Andreas, aka Kraut Sounds on the channel with a beautiful live performance.

Kraut Sounds lives in the South of Germany. Originally started in spring 2012 as a dub techno project, evolving since then into an experimental electronic outfit with deep ambient roots and a certain kraut electronic vein.

Kraut Sounds released numerous EPs, albums and live sessions for several dub techno, ambient/drone netlabels: Büro für Erdrotation, Terra Rossa, Spiel:feld Records, Diametral, Dimbideep Music, Drone Works International (all Germany), Adept Label (Spain) and Dub Techno Blog (UK). Podcasts of Kraut Sounds can be heard at Deep Electronics, Echogarden, Hello Strange, Spiel:feld, Moshitaka and Technopoetry.

Kraut Sounds also records under the name Polaroid Notes improvisational music and contemporary classic. Up to now Polaroid Notes did several releases for Audio Gourmet, Whitelabrecs, Tessellate Recordings (all UK) and Büro für Erdrotation (Germany).

About the music:
“Since I’m into making music I like working with deep and minimal sounds, oscillating textures and free-form Kraut electronic stuff creating certain moods and feelings.
“Closed Circle” is about floating and drifting in sound and time. About getting lost in emotions, in deep meditative soundscapes and atmospheric drones. The live session features some tracks of my albums “Echoes”, “Drone Scapes” and “Spaces”, the latest one released mid of November 2019, together with a couple of new and unreleased sonic meditations. Sit down, relax and drift away…”

Summer Solstice 2020 Mix by The Vision Reels

The Vigeland Mausoleum in Oslo is known for it's incredible acoustics. It has a reverb tail of about 15 seconds, letting the music swirl around the arc ceiling and the walls covered with fresco paintings. The space became so much part of the music, molding and resounding the sound of the clarinet, that it almost felt as if we were sitting inside of a musical instrument.
