Octave one - Blackwater

Sam’s EP boot’s off with ‘Chocolate’, a track that builds and builds using detuned synths, stabs and funky drums to make any dance floor erupt. ‘Domino’ is a track that’s bassline drones underneath its own distinctive synth line to keep the drums rolling along steadily. The title track ‘Black Leather’ is everything you would expect in a Drumcode record; a subtle throbbing bass line which, keeps the track moving before the synth stabs enrapture the track and twist it into a dark, throbbing composition. The final track ‘Daegon’ uses dubbed out drums to incorporate a synth melody line that will blow your socks off and rounds off this well shaped EP.

We could not deliver something better than this amazing two track ep from the top spanish duo "Gabriel D'or & Bordoy", supported with a magic NHB Remix. The bad guys deliver once again two real dance floor breakers, both infused with an astonish sound made of a magic fusion between detroit and old school techno, where groove and modern rhythms find always the proper space. "Paladia" find solidity thanks the a strong and concrete beat, the raw percussions are perfectly matched with the hypnotic synth line, dark vocals and a long break leave no space for discussion. "Tunel de seda" could not ask more than this magic NHB Remix, a big room track that promises to find place in many djs bag for the second part of this 2014. Here big reverbs, the hammer kick and a perfect baseline take over the control, creating the correct mood for any festival and big party. The long breakdown will take your crowd by hand towards a trip of no return. A real must have !

<p>Our favorite heroes are back on Phobiq and start things off with the bang of &#8220;The Grudge&#8221;, which boasts an unmistakeable riff and chords that remind us of the good old days. The locomotive groove provides the momentum while the boys show off their skills with some distressed synthesis and clever, spacious arrangement.<br />
&#8220;Thoughtcrime&#8221; picks right up with a grinding rhythm section, and the spotlight is geared towards even more chord goodness. Cavernous effects keep reminding us of who we are listening to and persistent hi-hats drive this one all the way home.</p>

Sound Associates are late 90s UK producers Ben Tisdall and Daz Saund. With a long string of releases on labels like Music Man, Tortured, Missile and more, the pair defined a funky, frenetic tribal Techno sound. 

Their raw and challenging sonics, with compressed low ends and crisp highs no doubt contributed to the benchmarks for Techno today. Perhaps some of the unsung heroes of the pioneering UK scene, Sound Associates have left a permanent stamp on the shape of club music without compromise.

Following on from his Edits of DJ Hyperactive, JPLS and Mikael Jonasson, Len Faki now takes on original Sound Associates material in two burning new interpretations. 

Both 'Jacknife' and 'Boombox' blend the jacking, floor-burning funk of the original S.A cuts, with Faki's unmistakable attention to detail, and deadly-high production values. Finely tuned, yet raw and unrelenting, they are a perfect addition to Figure's current run of releases, setting new and higher standards for underground Techno in 2014.

Glasgow’s own Hans Bouffmyhre returns for his third outing on Soma under his Secluded EP with Proceed. Aimed more at the deeper end of Techno, the young producer keeps things dark and heavy with this alias and is no stranger to top notch Techno releasing a multitude of big room numbers though his own prolific Sleaze label among others. Proceed serves up two more chord driven monsters backed with an incredible Samuel L Session remix.

Secluded’s original version of Proceed gets things moving at an incredible pace as earth shattering drums rock in but almost instantly Secluded shows the deeper side this alias is known for as space like pads bring things back down to earth with rhythmic stabs keeps everything in check. Slowly the build begins in Detroit-esq minimalistic fashion before ride cymbals crash in, taking things up a notch. Proceed retains a solid groove throughout and really opens the EP with intent.

Focus serves up yet more delectable deep Techno with more emphasis on big, powerful chords. An effective DJ tool, Secluded works in slashing percussion to great effect while the distinctive chords keep the track driving through big drops.

Masterful Swedish producer Samuel L Session, who is no stranger to Soma, turns in a suitably big remix on Proceed. Samuel’s unique production style is quick off the mark as big and bouncing low end makes way to looped out, resonating chords that gently sweep their way in allowing subtle percussion the space needed to keep thing flowing rhythmically. Samuel really makes this remix his own with his refined production and delicate builds.

With a decade of presenting exciting new talent behind them, Crosstown Rebels press on, signing up Belgian duo Raw District for their impressive debut on the label after a storming sophomore release on Defected sub label DFTD put them firmly on the radar. The ‘Ragged Star EP’ featuring live vocalists Ellipsis and Giorgia Angiuli is two compelling original cuts combining hypnotic, swinging grooves in the languidly deep Detroit-laced ‘Ragged Star’ and contrasting textures and tempos and ethereal voice in ‘Turn Away’. Throw in stone cold killer tech ‘Rethink’ by house music demi-god Josh Wink and you have more than enough bangers for your buck.

Vernon Bara and Massimo DaCosta aka Raw District are Homecoming Music label owners and producers that between them have released music on labels such as OM Records, AMA Rec, Robsoul, Aroma, OFF Recordings, Icon and Doubledown, and delivered remixes for the likes of Brett Johnson, Fred Everything, Style of Eye, Miguel Migs and JT Donaldson. Earlier this year they launched the Raw District project with the mission statement that “Raw District tracks will feature fewer samples and more organic influences. However, the trademark soul, funk and disco influences will still be evident, mixed up with the fresh European sounds coming from Berlin.” With more vocal collaborations in the pipeline, expect to hear more infectiously deep and characterful club sounds in the not too distant future.

Josh Wink needs little or no introduction. As the owner of long-standing benchmark label Ovum Recordings and a DJ/producer since the dawn of the 90s, Wink has helped soundtracked the clubbing life of a generation. Forming Ovum in 1994 with partner King Britt and releasing anthem ‘High State of Consciousness’ in 1995, Wink *under many different monikers) has continued with countless game changing releases, touring the globe extensively and entering the house music hall of fame as one of Philadelphia’s most prolific exports.

"The name Hans Bouffmyhre was born in the summer of 2006, when a group of friends decided to start their own techno night in a dark basement in Paisley, Scotland. The first night was a massive success and the rest is now history. 15 years later Hans Bouffmyhre is an established artist within the worldwide techno scene. Having released music on some of the worlds most esteemed techno labels like Soma Records, Electric Deluxe, Perc Trax, Suara and others. Meanwhile his own label Sleaze Records goes from strength to strength, firmly stapled as one of the best techno labels in the UK.

Hans has been lucky enough to play regular DJ sets at some of the biggest and most well known clubs in the world, from the infamous Berghain in Berlin, to Melkweg in Amsterdam, Rex Club in Paris, Sub Club in Glasgow amongst many others. He is known for bringing a raw, hypnotic and energetic style. Still only in his mid 30’s and with already so much experience as a DJ, producer, label manager and party organiser, the future looks bright for Hans Bouffmyhre."
