Something heavy this way comes. Technical deathcore riff merchants Harbinger return to active service after a couple of years away, with a brace of new songs, a new face and ferocious intent.
 
Harbinger came together in 2015, rising out of the ashes of Immerse and bringing in ex-members of Desolated, Acrania and Doomed From Day One. Quickly establishing themselves among the UK's burgeoning tech-metal scene, they have built a reputation for marrying deathcore brutality with intricate technicality, socially conscious lyrics and the occasional bone-shaking breakdown.
 
Showcasing a relentless work ethic, Harbinger have never sat still for very long. Two EPs, Paroxym and Human Dust were quickly followed 2019's debut full-length Compelled To Suffer, with each successive release demonstrating a steadily increasing maturity and potency.
 
No strangers to the stage, Harbinger regularly played shows across the UK, played festival sets at Tech-Fest, Euroblast, Radar and Bloodstock, as well as heading out across Europe in 2019 as part of the Sounds of Carnage tour, headlined by Rings of Saturn.
 
However, late in 2019, founding vocalist Thom Gardner decided to step away from the band and the search began for a replacement worthy of Thom's distinctive contributions to Harbinger's body of work. The band played a stand-alone headliner at the end of that year with Dilan Alves acting as a temporary frontman.
 
But then 2020 happened.
 
With the world locked down, Harbinger decided that Dilan should continue to hold the mic for them, and the new-look band sequestered themselves away to develop the songs that now constitute this new release. As the underground metal live scene attempts to work out what 'normal' now looks like, Harbinger are now ready to re-emerge and pick up their face-melting mission where they left off.
 
The new release was written over the lockdown period, and was recorded following the easing of restrictions. Eager to find the right team, the band decided to spread the responsibility between a few producers who specialise in particular things. Drums were recorded with Stu McKay (ex - Eternal Lord) at Studio 6, Vocals were recorded with Meyrick De La Fuente (Exist Immortal) at Floodgate Audio, and Guitars and Bass were recorded DIY. This was all brought to life by Jacob Hansen Studios (Dyscarnate, The Black Dahlia Murder) who added his touch and brought cohesion and consistency across the record. 
 
Thom's distinctive vocal style was a key part of Harbinger's sound, but as a fan of the band prior to joining the ranks, Dilan has brought a continuity alongside making the role his own. The unexpected and unavoidable hiatus gave Harbinger the time and space to bring Dilan properly into the fold, and develop their most diverse - and hardest-hitting - collection of songs to date.
 
With much to be angry about in the world around us, Harbinger are focusing their ire at those who manipulate and exploit others for their own selfish gain, both in a personal and political sense.
 
Underpinning this righteous fury with thick, groove-laden riffs, anthemic choruses and shredding guitar solos, Harbinger package high-minded concepts and techniques with primitive savagery and raw heaviness. The net result is compelling and exhilarating in equal measure, marking Harbinger's ascent to the vanguard of bands pushing the boundaries of the UK's underground metal scene.

The collection of songs due to be released takes you on a journey through the mind of someone who has experienced hardship, shining a light on injustice and the balance of power in the world. Backed by big riffs, untamed heaviness and technicality, Harbinger are pushing the boundaries of modern metal, but with a lot of consideration and respect for the foundations and roots of the genre.
