I was going through a discogs rabbit hole when I found it, it was very easy to find but quite underrated.

3. Why do you choose to edit it ?
There are some parts I really like about the song, but overall I found the structure to be quite messy, and at points a little jarring, so I cut out the parts I didn't like and beefed up the good bits!

4. What are your next plans?
My next release is my track 'Idyll Illusion' on Semi Delicious alongside Demi Requisimo, Baby Rollen, Harry Oscillate & Gallegos, out 26.11.21!

Who are you?
We are Stavros and Constantinos. We make music together under two aliases; “Stevie R & Parisinos”, and “After Altamont”. We also run an experimental record label based in London, Inside Out Records. 

How did you discover this track?
Rakesh Chaurasia is an Indian flautist, who plays the bansuri, an Indian bamboo flute. We were amazed by a live performance he released on YouTube and decided to edit it. 

Why did you choose to edit it?
We love incorporating old musical elements with electronic music. It is at the heart of what we do both as Stevie R & Parisinos, as well as After Altamont - predominantly however with Greek folk instruments. We saw this as an opportunity to explore another culture and sound.

What are you next plans?
We are preparing a live set, and have many releases planned over the next year. As always, we are looking for new talent to try as best we can to help and support them through our label too.

Omri Smadar, a producer / dj / musician. I Live in Tel Aviv

> How did you discover this track ? 
The original track is from a classic record by Matti Casspi, one of Israel's most prolific and known artists. He was influenced by Brazilian music, and in 1978 he recorded an album of hebrew covers of brazilian music, called Eretz Tropit Yaffa ("Pais Tropical" in Portuguese) 
I chose to re edit one of the lesser known gems from this album.

> Why do you choose to edit it ? 
I was drone to the latin percussive groove & the vocals and simple lyrics. I felt this is such a feel-good track that can work really well on the floor.

> What are your upcoming plans?
Looking forward to the release of Adama - EP on Hard Fist in March 22!

E & S: He (Stankfejs) actually found 3 different versions of the track that all had their charm, so we decided to take the sweetest parts from each one and make it into one super edit.

HRDF: Who are you ? :
A & Q: Arash & Quasar - Truth and Star - it’s electronic duo from Russia, two friends, DJs, collectors of rare vinyl records, musicians and painters.
Pavel Grachev and Vitaly Zhulkov.
The guys collaborate with such global labels as Hard Fist, Fauve Records, Calypso Records and Whypeopledance
Arash & Quasar also film interesting programs from their travels and tours called DIG LOTO, where the main characters go searching for rare old records with their best friend Vestax Handy Trax, and share musical treasures with people on their YouTube channel.
“Arash & Quasar" was born out of pure pleasure, juggling pieces of different sounds. Basically, we take interesting records with oriental old forgotten music, find some really catchy elements and feel that something new and beautiful can come out of it if we put our own arrangements, synthesizers and drum machines on it. Perhaps this can be compared with how to make a collage of different clippings from a magazine. Only instead of pictures, it's sounds.

HRDF: How did you discover this track? :
A & Q: Iveria was a Georgian music ensemble founded in 1968 that gained popularity in the Soviet Union in the 1970s. The group sang both georgian and contemporary songs, and released 6 vinyl albums on famous Melodiya label. It’s very beautiful folk voices, it’s wild drums breaks and crazy fuzzy guitars.
Song Azimat (Azamat) is an Abkhazian folk song. It sings about a man named Azamat and his family. He works on the fields with his family and the song describes their life.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?:
A & Q: We are rare vinyl collectors. And the Iveria is one of our brightest and most beloved records from Soviet Union. We decided to pay remix to this wonderful Georgian ensemble. And make an old folk song with synths, arpeggiators and drum machines. This experiment is exciting!
We think it gives new life to a very old folk song. Now we can dance to electronic music and sing Abkhazian songs together.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?:
A & Q: Buy new synthesizers) more and more)
Make as many new tracks as possible. We have several releases planned this year on very cool labels. And of course we will play in different countries and shoot new programs about vinyl.

Smolyan (written and produced with Nenor) introduces an east-european folklore chant, with a pure vintage analog production approach. Omri decided to make two different mixes, one for the early morning and one for the night.

HRDF: Who are you ?
JS: I am Juniore Super, co-founder of the SUPER Daronne collective based in Bordeaux. I have always been passionate about music and started making music at a young age, playing several instruments. When I discovered electronic music for the first time I saw the opportunity to mix all my past inspirations through mixing. Playing records allows me to put my idea of the most adequate music in a given context. It's this role as a transmitter of emotions or culture that I find captivating. Today I also have another role, that of holding an artistic direction and programming the electronic segment of the lBOAT in Bordeaux. It's something that suits me quite well I think because I am very curious and adventurous in this passion. Music is above all a sharing, introspections as much as meetings! I am very happy to be able to participate in the creative effort with this piece and to give an account of my musical interpretation beyond my turntables.

HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
JS: I've always had a bit of a nostalgic view of music, I'm quite a fan of the raw, analog production methods of the previous century. When looking for vinyl beyond the record shops, you'll end up browsing through a lot of old stuff in an attic, in your family's collection or on flea markets. This record was in a batch that I had recovered to clear a friend during the confinement. I always had this little challenge to try to find a nice surprise. To do that, you have to listen to everything without leaving out any details. And that's how, in the middle of this popular 45, I discovered this slightly hidden synth pop track.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?
JS: First of all I think this song appealed to me by its title and the lyrics of the original version. It was composed in 1985 and from a certain point of view it is very topical. During the confinement it was even disturbing! So I decided to make a more current and futuristic version, as if the original was stranded on a new land, the Terra Novae.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?
JS: Today I really take to heart my new job as a programmer, it's a great experience that allows me to explore the current scene and learn every day. I also play almost every weekend and I continue to share the music I collect, it's really good to be able to dance again! I'm lucky enough to be able to do it alone or with my friends from SUPER Daronne depending on the dates so I enjoy it. For the moment the production is more like a few hours here and there because it all takes time, I will publish new stuff one day maybe or maybe not ! I don't put any pressure on myself at all, I think the most important thing is to do music with sense and passion.

Didgital features Yogev Haruvi playing didgeridoo and percussion live. This track sounds like a journey between the real and digital world, just like the whole album.
Shadi Khries accelerated the rhythm, translating the dancefloor urgency in the dead of the night. More trancy, the remix still has Shadi’s characteristic strong line bass.

For their 18th vinyl release, Hard Fist welcomes Guadalajara-based producers Vongold and Fargo Devianti in the family, including an impressive remix by Jennifer Cardini and Damon Jee.
Dj, producers and performers, the Mexican duo releases collabs on Correspondant, Hard Fist, Rotten City, Her Majesty’s Ship and more. Vongold is all about low-tempo dark disco, anxious lyrics over bass lines and hundred vocal gems ; while Fargo Devianti is a magician mixing guitars, synthesizers, drums and voodoo percussion.
“Taste of Butter” is their first full EP together. Vongold's haunted vocals stress Fargo Devianti hypnotic percussion. Together they create a psychedelic journey into mind landscapes with eclectic influences like avant-garde rock, post-punk, krautrock and darkwave sprinkled by psych folk eastern melodies and ritual percussions. This EP is probably the most rock and new-wave oriented ever released on Hard Fist.
To conclude, Jennifer Cardini and Damon Jee brought a powerful remix influenced by Detroit's electro and breakbeat roots. Once mixed with the trippy sounds of the original version, it opens a fresh new door into the field of “dancefloor killer” music.

The thick metal door slammed with an ominous thud; the sound of the key twisting in the lock made his insides do the same. A realisation washed over him; he wasn't going to escape his mistakes this time, his sentence was in the email - signed, sealed and delivered. Years and years of swerving the law, of flying under the radar and not taking responsibility for his actions, but this time it wouldn't go unpunished. He'd made his bed and he'd have to lie in it, at least until the hangman came knocking at his door. 

For the last five years Lyon-based DJs and producers Tushen Rai and Cornelius Doctor have been trawling the outer reaches of the universe mining for musical gold. Through their label Hard Fist they've not just built a strong sonic identity, they've also grown an extensive family of like-minded producers, many of whom are helping them to celebrate and commemorate this five year milestone. Self-dubbed a "Unidentified Noisy Object (U.N.O)", to mark the occasion they've enlisted label mates and peers who've been part of their journey to collaborate as part of a mammoth compilation titled Dust of Life.

The double LP, which was lovingly supported by their devoted following via a crowdfunding campaign, features link ups from the likes of Bawrut & Phil Louzolo, Sascha Funke & Fantastic Twins and Errortica & Curses, who explore threads of post-punk, new wave, acid, trance and electronica.

HF: How did you find this track, any particular reason why you chose this one to edit?
Romain: I found this track in a jazz specialised record shop in Hong Kong with a bunch of other middle eastern influenced records, it couldn’t have been more random to be honest but that’s the beauty of digging for records.
I’ve tried playing it out but i felt it was just missing a little push to make it a bit nastier, to make people go nuts on the dancefloor, so a couple of weird samples, an acid bassline & some touch up later... it became mayhem material (I think).

HF: What would you do if you weren’t making music?
Romain: In my coffin sleeping for eternity.

HF: Any favourite place in town?
Romain: Toilets are my favourite place they are the only place where you can truly be yourself and alone. I came up with my beat ideas taking a dump... everybody knows that but nobody wants to admit it.

HF: What is your favourite saying?
Romain: “Common sense is not that common”

HF: Do you fear karma?
Romain: I live by it, so I don’t fear it.
“You reap what you sow” is another good expression

Tagliabue: "Original track is an electronic piece of music from 1995’s album, full of exotic influences. I found it when I was digging some new sounds from the past years and I really loved it. Later, I decided to re-work on it and I thought about an alternative version. I use to spin slow music (at wrong speed, from 45 to 33 rpm) and the result is a new “slow-tempo” track inspired by Afro-Cosmic and Progressive scenario of the 90’s in Italy."

We had a chat with Guling, Indonisian producer that we met two years ago.

HRDF: how did you discover that track?

Guling: This edit is a tribute to the orignal tracks Bom Nuklir by legendary Indonesian islamic girlband called Nasida Ria, to keep rephrase their message about spreading peace & love to each other, making health therapy by using organic products, rather than having a nuclear power that maybe be a potential to annihilate everyone.
Nasida Ria is very familiar to most Indonesian people, it is played anywhere on TV and radio during Ramadan fasting month.
There was a legendary "Qasidah" girlband in Indonesia. Qasidah was a genre that blends pop music with arabic and muslim culture.

HRDF: why did you choose it for an edit?

Guling: I choose it because most of Indonesian youth were shamed to listen to their music. It wasn't cool, more like a kitsch taste for them. But I want to keep rephrasing their message in today's context, and also to keep bangin' it into the dancefloor hahaha!

HRDF: what do the song's lyrics mean exactly?

Guling: They tell us to keep spreading love to each other,  by planting more plants to save the world or create a medication therapy by using it as an alternative way. Instead of provoking nuclear war.

I think the message works for today's situation. We're not facing a nuclear threat, missiles or something like that anymore. We are facing a virus that can kill anyone.  
In the end, although we facing this shitty situation - we can't go out, we can't make plans, no gig, all tour cancelled - we still need to spread love. To me, it also means that it's time to give rest to mother earth, as it is also said in the song.

HF: How did you discover this track?
FM: I was doing research over the lockdown, I was looking for proto techno releases from '88 to '91 and I've found this track on discogs.
It's a german production from '88 released on the amazing ZYX records. 

HF: Can you tell us more about the rework?
FM: The original track contains the famous speech by Martin Luther King "I have a dream" but I've decided to cut it and give more space to the instrumental parts and extend the acid elements. I think it's more effective on the dancefloor now.

HF: How did you discover this track ? Why did you choose to edit it ? 

DF : I'm a big fan of YMO and the work of its members since my teenagehood. I believe I heard this record by Hosono about 5 years ago, when I moved to Berlin and was living with my old flatmates, who had a crazy amount of records, but I think it was 2 years ago when I heard ’Shambala Signal' consciously and imagined what I could do with those bells and percussions which are all over the original track, finally during quarantine I had plenty of time to work on music and remembered I wanted to edit this track. It was finished quite quickly and fluidly, since I still had, luckily, a fresh idea of what I wanted to do and how wanted it to sound. I used mainly the chops from the original track, soft synths and samplers to work it.

Perdu: "I found this little beauty through a friend of mine who played it in his Kiosk Radio show. I instantly fell in love but it had some elements that got me out of flow. it missed some drive in the low end and some pace. After some rearrangement and playing around with a new found arpeggiator, it felt ready for the dancefloor. Hopefully the dancefloors open again soon..."

@aaronmaple first discovered Amira Saqati through a mixtape he was listening to via Soundcloud last fall. He remembers quickly browsing Amira Saqati's discography after the discovery and enjoying many songs from it. Hel Aeynik's vocals and melody got him right away. 
Aaron Maple version is a dancefloor oriented version with more groove to play at peak time. He recorded new drums and a new bassline. And he reorganized the structure and played with samples but kept vocals in the core element of the song.
