QS: Original artist is Hoodoo Fushimi From Japan. I'm a big fan of Mr.Fushimi.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ? 
QS: I was thinking about reworking one of his masterpiece for a while. So, I contacted him and asked if he were ok. I was surprised and honored that he said yes. It's a really special edit for us, master japanese funk vibe!  

HRDF: What are your next plans? 
QS: Working On Music For Hard Fist and SC&P, and more music release for 2022. I'm really exciting about focusing more on music. And I start touring in USA and South America soon.

2. How did you discover this track ?
I was going through a discogs rabbit hole when I found it, it was very easy to find but quite underrated.

3. Why do you choose to edit it ?
There are some parts I really like about the song, but overall I found the structure to be quite messy, and at points a little jarring, so I cut out the parts I didn't like and beefed up the good bits!

4. What are your next plans?
My next release is my track 'Idyll Illusion' on Semi Delicious alongside Demi Requisimo, Baby Rollen, Harry Oscillate & Gallegos, out 26.11.21!

Who are you?
We are Stavros and Constantinos. We make music together under two aliases; “Stevie R & Parisinos”, and “After Altamont”. We also run an experimental record label based in London, Inside Out Records. 

How did you discover this track?
Rakesh Chaurasia is an Indian flautist, who plays the bansuri, an Indian bamboo flute. We were amazed by a live performance he released on YouTube and decided to edit it. 

Why did you choose to edit it?
We love incorporating old musical elements with electronic music. It is at the heart of what we do both as Stevie R & Parisinos, as well as After Altamont - predominantly however with Greek folk instruments. We saw this as an opportunity to explore another culture and sound.

What are you next plans?
We are preparing a live set, and have many releases planned over the next year. As always, we are looking for new talent to try as best we can to help and support them through our label too.

Omri Smadar, a producer / dj / musician. I Live in Tel Aviv

> How did you discover this track ? 
The original track is from a classic record by Matti Casspi, one of Israel's most prolific and known artists. He was influenced by Brazilian music, and in 1978 he recorded an album of hebrew covers of brazilian music, called Eretz Tropit Yaffa ("Pais Tropical" in Portuguese) 
I chose to re edit one of the lesser known gems from this album.

> Why do you choose to edit it ? 
I was drone to the latin percussive groove & the vocals and simple lyrics. I felt this is such a feel-good track that can work really well on the floor.

> What are your upcoming plans?
Looking forward to the release of Adama - EP on Hard Fist in March 22!

J: I am Jackit - real name Eugene DJ from Kaliningrad city from western part of Russia.

HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
J: In fact my good friend Kostya Isaev aka Volta Cab / Rambal Cochet showed me this track in 2017. Original track was released in 1992 via the Italian label Interactive Test, autor Steve Mantovani DJ and producer from Italy.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?
J: Still then I wanted to do with this track something. I was very hooked by Indian chant mixed with oldschool rave groove but I forgot about it for whole four years and only remembered this year when I was looking for ideas for my edits.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?
J: Of course keep making music. Upcoming plans to release a full-length EP and I am currently creating a remix for a French label due out in September 2022.

HRDF: Who are you ? 
B: A London based techno producer, DJ and live musician ambitiously blurring the lines between acid techno, EBM, electro and post-punk. 

HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
B: This track came out when I was 8 (and now I'm just turning 30 - I'm sorry if that makes anyone feel old) but it was a huge influence on a lot of the later Electro-Clash, Indie and New Rave that I spent my teens listening to (and blogging about in fact - I was a Blog House blogger). 

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?
B: Eventually in 2010 I learnt how to DJ and this song was always one I used to crack out at the indie nights that I first started playing at, alongside a tonne of Nu-Disco and Post-Punk and Indie classics but there's never been a good edit of it (in my opinion). 

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?
B: My next live show is at Le Sucre with Cornelius Doctor and Juan MacLean on 4th March and then I'm off to Mexico to play a few DJ dates and then I'm back in London ready to DJ at Risen Festival in Hackney Wick as my first festival date of the year. Release wise - I've been taking my time with the next batch of songs as I've wanted to do something a little different with these songs. Expect a slightly tougher sound and wonkier (less 'chuggy') based beats. I often get booked on the 'dark disco' line-ups with people expecting tempos not to go above a certain BPM but I'm easily bored and like the challenge of bridging genres together and playing on more than 2 CD-Js and looping tracks so I actually move things around a lot genre and BPM wise and I want to make something that reflects that. Don't worry though guitar fans, there will still be some guitars strategically peppered in there. Essentially, I want to prove I'm not just a one trick pony. I want people to not know what I'm going to do next.

K: In fact, my dear father showed it to me, he has it on cassette. He has always been a big fan of the 80s Arabic music especially with Funk and Raï music.

K: I liked the track, and I decided to make a dancefloor version out of it! It makes my heart melt when I see people from different cultures dancing to forgotten north African gems.

E & S: It's was our good friend Viktor #2 (Stankfejs), king of disco and other funky obscure stuff who found this track.

HRDF: Why did you choose to edit it?
E & S: He (Stankfejs) actually found 3 different versions of the track that all had their charm, so we decided to take the sweetest parts from each one and make it into one super edit.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans?
E & S: We have upcoming releases on Bordello A Parigi, Playground Records & Feines Tier in the near future. Also, gigs are finally starting to pick up again. Last but not least, we'll have a bunch of juicy stuff for our own label Trampoliner as well.

N & G: We are neskeh and Grogush, friends from childhood

HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
N & G: Gautier (Grogush) the master of afromusic digging discovered it during his travel in Cotonou, Benin 🇧🇯

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?
N & G: It was Christmas Day, we were together alone in his place, listening his last digs. I enjoyed a lot the percussion at the beginning of the track and so we decided to sample it to make an edit.
Gautier has a lot of instruments at his place so we decided to keep the organic touch and we recorded all the instruments one by one.
As an acid lover, I put an acid touch to make it a little more electronic :)

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?
N & G: Upcoming plans are to make more edits together. And I also work on an Ep in solo. Stay tuned

HRDF: Who are you ? :
A & Q: Arash & Quasar - Truth and Star - it’s electronic duo from Russia, two friends, DJs, collectors of rare vinyl records, musicians and painters.
Pavel Grachev and Vitaly Zhulkov.
The guys collaborate with such global labels as Hard Fist, Fauve Records, Calypso Records and Whypeopledance
Arash & Quasar also film interesting programs from their travels and tours called DIG LOTO, where the main characters go searching for rare old records with their best friend Vestax Handy Trax, and share musical treasures with people on their YouTube channel.
“Arash & Quasar" was born out of pure pleasure, juggling pieces of different sounds. Basically, we take interesting records with oriental old forgotten music, find some really catchy elements and feel that something new and beautiful can come out of it if we put our own arrangements, synthesizers and drum machines on it. Perhaps this can be compared with how to make a collage of different clippings from a magazine. Only instead of pictures, it's sounds.

HRDF: How did you discover this track? :
A & Q: Iveria was a Georgian music ensemble founded in 1968 that gained popularity in the Soviet Union in the 1970s. The group sang both georgian and contemporary songs, and released 6 vinyl albums on famous Melodiya label. It’s very beautiful folk voices, it’s wild drums breaks and crazy fuzzy guitars.
Song Azimat (Azamat) is an Abkhazian folk song. It sings about a man named Azamat and his family. He works on the fields with his family and the song describes their life.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?:
A & Q: We are rare vinyl collectors. And the Iveria is one of our brightest and most beloved records from Soviet Union. We decided to pay remix to this wonderful Georgian ensemble. And make an old folk song with synths, arpeggiators and drum machines. This experiment is exciting!
We think it gives new life to a very old folk song. Now we can dance to electronic music and sing Abkhazian songs together.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?:
A & Q: Buy new synthesizers) more and more)
Make as many new tracks as possible. We have several releases planned this year on very cool labels. And of course we will play in different countries and shoot new programs about vinyl.

L: I discovered it pretty young and for me it was a shock. I only understood sex and it was pretty shocking to hear something that outrageous on TV.

L: I usually work on more underground tracks but I wanted to work on a massive hit for  this one and turn it into a space weird erotica track.

HRDF: Who are you ?
JS: I am Juniore Super, co-founder of the SUPER Daronne collective based in Bordeaux. I have always been passionate about music and started making music at a young age, playing several instruments. When I discovered electronic music for the first time I saw the opportunity to mix all my past inspirations through mixing. Playing records allows me to put my idea of the most adequate music in a given context. It's this role as a transmitter of emotions or culture that I find captivating. Today I also have another role, that of holding an artistic direction and programming the electronic segment of the lBOAT in Bordeaux. It's something that suits me quite well I think because I am very curious and adventurous in this passion. Music is above all a sharing, introspections as much as meetings! I am very happy to be able to participate in the creative effort with this piece and to give an account of my musical interpretation beyond my turntables.

HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
JS: I've always had a bit of a nostalgic view of music, I'm quite a fan of the raw, analog production methods of the previous century. When looking for vinyl beyond the record shops, you'll end up browsing through a lot of old stuff in an attic, in your family's collection or on flea markets. This record was in a batch that I had recovered to clear a friend during the confinement. I always had this little challenge to try to find a nice surprise. To do that, you have to listen to everything without leaving out any details. And that's how, in the middle of this popular 45, I discovered this slightly hidden synth pop track.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?
JS: First of all I think this song appealed to me by its title and the lyrics of the original version. It was composed in 1985 and from a certain point of view it is very topical. During the confinement it was even disturbing! So I decided to make a more current and futuristic version, as if the original was stranded on a new land, the Terra Novae.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?
JS: Today I really take to heart my new job as a programmer, it's a great experience that allows me to explore the current scene and learn every day. I also play almost every weekend and I continue to share the music I collect, it's really good to be able to dance again! I'm lucky enough to be able to do it alone or with my friends from SUPER Daronne depending on the dates so I enjoy it. For the moment the production is more like a few hours here and there because it all takes time, I will publish new stuff one day maybe or maybe not ! I don't put any pressure on myself at all, I think the most important thing is to do music with sense and passion.

Who are you ? 
I'm Tushen Raï, co-curator of Hard Fist records and happy to finally contribute with my own edit to RePhrase Collection 

How did you discover this track ?
I dig it at Unite Central, a fantastic record shop in the center of Lyon, runned by Mush and Guillaume Des Bois. I think this one come from the personal collection of Guillaume. 

Why do you choose to edit it ?
I'm a big fan of D.A.F, the band of Robert Görl and Gabi Delgado-Lopez (RIP genius) but I only recently started digging the solo records of Robert, the drummer. There are a lot of fantastic tracks, some EBM of course, but also some more hardcore techno which are really great and surprising. This track, Repeat The Beat was released in 1991 (def proto early european electronic music) and talks about AIDS, the role of the dance floor in the LBTIQ+ community at this period, etc ... At the same time, you find the violence of the situation and some hope & determination in the community. I really love this track!  

What are your upcoming plans ?
I've got my new EP coming out on Cracki Records really soon, some music on the way with Cornelius Doctor and many projects for Hard Fist! Keeping busy, trying to stay singular.

GG: Gael Juárez aka Gael Gael, DJ and producer from the city of Puebla, Mexico.

HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
GG: I have always been passionate about music and, one day while exploring Discogs, I came across this song that seemed quite avant garde for it to be from 83.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?
GG: Because I like the mix of genres combined within the track which are some musical references that I like like hip hop/electronic music. The melodies mainly seemed fascinating to me so I decided to take the most interesting parts and imagine editing it in my style to give it more dynamics for the dance floor.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?
GG: Working on original music for upcoming releases and keep making edits... I love edits! Stay tuned.

D: I am Dacou, a DJ/producer based out of Toronto. 

HRDF: How did you discover this track?
D: I saw a local ad in Toronto for somebody wanting to get rid of some old Arabic cassette tapes, so naturally I was curious. Turns out it was an elderly gentleman who had them, and they had belonged to a lady from Egypt who he was in love with over thirty years ago. Unfortunately things didn’t work out between them and she went back home, leaving their love unfulfilled. He never saw her again and these tapes were all that were left of her, but in his old age he felt it was right to pass them on. This tape was amongst them. 

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it?
D: After discovering this song and coming to know it was in fact a love song, a declaration of love - I thought it was a fitting ode to the gentleman who had given me the tapes, while serving as modern dance-floor friendly refresher of a great Algerian Raï track. 

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans? 
D: To keep digging for gems and dropping betters!

MRN: My name is Gal Goldman aka Mr Right Now, 21 years old producer from Tel Aviv / Paris, started my way as a selector dj in Tel Aviv a few years ago and I’m really inspired by Italo disco , French electronic music and alternative music from the 80s.

HRDF: How did you discover this track?
MRN: I discovered Rupa with a recommendation of my girlfriend maya in a vinyl store in paris, in the moment I listened to her album I decided that my fusion will work well with her tracks so I contacted her and got her permission to put it out as a official release.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it?
MRN: I choose to edit this track because Rupa took out only 4 songs out in public and I loved the amazing touch of ethnic Hindi vibe with the disco in her tracks and she did it like no other.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans?
MRN: My upcoming plans are moving back after a few months from Tel Aviv to Paris and to release an electronic original EP that mixes all of my various music taste in to one.

HRDF: How did you discover this track?
O: I was digging’ here in Venice in a very nice vinyl store (Spazio 432Hz) with a super and very large selection of 90’s and early ’00 trance, progressive and techno wax, searching’ for the 45rpm to play at 33rpm to achieve the Trance-A-Lento long lasting effect and this Italian gem comes by my hands, the artwork was epic and when I putted it on the plate I fell into a total state of trance %). Love at first sight

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it?
O: Because I got it just on vinyl :D so I chose to make an edit playing
something more on and pitching down (a lot) the whole track making it completely different from the artist's initial idea (the original mix I choose to edit is pure trance at 130 or more bpm)

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans?
O: Got 2 releases which I’m very proud of, the first one will be in January on UK’s Trule Rec (Al Wootton's own imprint) and the second one will be in March/April : a 12” on Multi Culti

P: Music lover. Dj. Producer. Brazilian. Living in France. Always looking for the sun =)

HRDF: How did you discover this track?
P: I heard it in another song also as a sample. It really got me somehow trapped into it, and it makes me want to do my own version. 

HRDF: Why did you choose to edit it?
P: The song chose me. Kidding...hehe. Well, it has been a while that I wanted to do something special to HardFist, it finally matched perfectly with the vibes I wanted to put in this edit. 

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans?
P: Well. Right now I'm touring between Colombia and Ivory Coast, so kind of living the dream of sharing music with people.  Until the end of the year, I still (fortunately) have some gigs.
I'm releasing a 8 tracks EP with two remixes of two of my fav artists at the end of January  for Cracki Records. 
In February/Mars will be doing some release parties in France. I'm really looking forward to it.
