HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
DM: I discovered this track like more than 10 years ago and forgot about it. And not so long time ago I found my old hard-drive and felt in some nostalgic feelings about music that I found there.
 
HRDF: Why did you choose to edit it ?
DM: I searched of some vocals for my track and tried to work with this beautiful vocal. And to be honest I wanted to do something in style of HARD FIST because it’s very inspiring music that you release. 
 
HRDF: Any tips for digging ? 
DM: Digging is a trip, so you just need to go and enjoy your road

The mix starts off around 105 bpm, keeping it at a nice low tempo with favorites from HiFi Sean, Eden Burns, and Fantastic Man before building toward a more peak-time club energy over the two hours. There are tracks from Vanessa Worm, and Theus Mago as well as the new Justin Cudmore track on a new label we have launched as The Night Institute. There are tracks from my Polari Records family, in the form of Shay Shaz and Micropacer, off the new 'No Tears in the Backroom' compilation and I've included both originals from my new release on Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant label.

Jordan Nocturne has been soundtracking parties in sweatbox clubs, festivals and raucous afterparties with his propulsive approach to electronic music for two decades.

The Nocturne schedule these days includes stops in Berlin, New York, Japan & London and has resulted in an uncompromising attitude to club culture that has been cultivated through playing some of the worlds leading underground parties. Jordan has soundtracked stand-out sessions at the helm of Pikes Ibiza, Fabric London, Sub Club in Glasgow and his own cult party, The Night Institute in Belfast. In 2023 The Night Institute was nominated 'Best Club Event', in the DJ Mag Best of British awards, cementing it's position as a refuge for the city's diverse characters that are looking for an alternative after-dark.

The prolific Nocturne Edits series was a runaway success, demanding several vinyl represses, while Jordan's uplifting take on house, disco and techno has found favour with Peggy Gou, Jennifer Cardini, Cormac & Erol Alkan to name just a few.

This ascent has seen the world's leading dance music institutions calling upon Jordan, with Nocturne mixes for Circoloco, DJ Mag, Mixmag and Feel My Bicep sitting comfortably alongside weekend guest mixes on Radio 1 and 6 Music.

2024 sees Jordan accelerate internationally, with a debut at the seminal Panorama Bar in Berlin, as well as tours to Australia and the USA, while maintaining a commanding studio output that continues to find homes in the playlists of the electronic music's most influential artists

’49 Days of Quarantine Before Freedom’ is @nodeynguyen ’s contribution to the debut compilation from Saigon-based collective @nhacgay, ‘Nhạc Gãy Tổng Hợp Số 1’.

Nhạc Gãy is the thumping heartbeat of Saigon’s underground rave scene. We were lucky enough to stumble into the first ever Gãy party in 2019 - a sweat drenched affair hidden in the backroom of a cocktail bar at the the periphery of Saigon’s infamous Bùi Viện street. Since then, they’ve been the catalyst for crystallizing new club mutations in Saigon and Vietnam. 

’49 Days of Quarantine Before Freedom’ by @nodeynguyen is a perfect encapsulation of @nhacgay ’s ethos - traditional Vietnamese instrumentation meets Gabber, Vinahouse meets Rage Against the Machine. In his own words:

“For this track, I sampled a Vietnamese oboe named « kèn đám ma » which is played at funerals. I added 2 overdrive bass, one sounds like gabber music, the other one sounds like ”Rage Against The Machine”, then I added a Vinahouse bridge. It became « 49 Days Of Quarantine Before Freedom”. I hope my friends will play this song the day I’ll die and they ”Bật luôn công tắc gật đầu” ("switch the headbanging mode on”)”

The whole compilation - ‘Nhạc Gãy Tổng Hợp Số 1’, is a dizzying concoction of sounds - techno, gabber, idm, vinahouse, industrial, hip-hop, breakbeat…all sit together in jagged unison. This compilation features artists, both local and diasporic Vietnamese, gathered to create original tracks using club music as a medium to unite and experiment around their shared heritage and identity. Vietnamese vocals and traditional instruments are fused with global contemporary dance music influences, pushing forward a new hybrid cross-cultural sound that is still defining itself.

In collaboration with local organizations and professionals in Saigon, all profits from this compilation will go towards Nhạc Gãy's fund dedicated to spreading mental health awareness.
