‘Next Wave Acid Punx’ is a 38 track journey across nearly 40 years of dark club music compiled and curated by Berlin-based Musician and DJ, Luca Venezia aka Curses divided into Chapter 1. Origins (Classics), Chapter 2. Break A Sweat (Recent) and Chapter 3. Maximum Heat (Exclusives).

Inviting friends with a like-minded affection for an 80s rooted sound, and diving deep into his record collection, Curses has put together a three-CD/double vinyl set that takes us from music by Colourbox and Suicide to EBM pioneers, Front 242 through to recent club hits from Zombies in Miami, Moscoman, Juan Mclean and 12 brand new, totally exclusive tracks from the likes of Shubostar, Chinaski, Local Suicide x Skelesys, Kendal x David Carretta and Curses himself.

Exploring the darker side of club music, ‘Next Wave Acid Punx’ traces decades of a musical passion and joins the dots between the EBM, New Beat, Italo and Acid House tracks of the 1980s to present music of today.

With releases on labels such as Permanent Vacation, Live at Robert Johnson and Riotvan to his credit Chinaski should be no stranger to fans of dark, electronic disco. For his contribution to Eskimo‘s new ‘Next Wave Acid Punx’ compilation the Frankfurt based producer delivers a propulsive EBM number, full of dramatic synths stabs, martial snares and a suitably forbidding VoiceOver.

Slowly but fiercely, the Spanish label Banshees Records has been carving in stone its place among the most interesting platforms devoted to the dark side of music – aka Dark Disco, Cold Wave, EBM, Industrial & whatnot. Curated by Toledo-based producer Israel Padilla, the imprint has – since its beginning in 2021 – already featured some of the best artists in the game such as Curses, Kendal, Parissior (SXDNS206/FREEDL043), Silicodisco, and Jennifer Touch (SXDNS022). For its forthcoming episode to be released in digital and cassette, Banshees presents “Mistakes Of The Mind”, a 7-track EP by Cobrawave divided into five furious originals (one in collaboration with Mimmo) and two blazing remixes made with love by David Carretta and the label boss himself. Premiered here, the former’s collaboration.

And who on Earth is Cobrawave? He is the new alter ego of prolific and skilled Italian producer Futuristant (FREEDL042), and his main focus is on industrial and acid atmospheres exploited through powerful and raw cuts. You will definitely notice such sonority on his showcase debut EP.

Let’s get back to David’s remix, shall we? He respectfully kept many elements of the original but daringly brought the theme to a more “peak time” realm, especially due to the incredible bouncing bassline he added. His interpretation is somewhat brighter and punchier, although still acid and dark. A version that says, “stop dancing with your shadow and dance with me!” – undoubtedly, one of the highlights of the ace release!

A Chicago native now based in New York, Jordan Lieb, aka Black Light Smoke, is an artist who wears many stripes within the realms electronic music. 
A DJ, producer, songwriter and composer, the diverse talent has also added the title of label boss to his resumé in recent years having founded his imprint, Death Decay Magic. Launched in 2020, releasing material spanning techno, EBM, electro and beyond, the label has welcomed releases and remixes from artists such as Cardopusher, The Hacker and MAN 2.0, to name just a few. 
Returning for his second EP on the label, mid-June sees Lieb partner alongside Brooklyn-based vocalist and producer Léah Lazonick for ‘Work’, accompanied by remixes from Argentinian duo Happy707 and trio Dina Summer - a collective made up of Kalipo and Local Suicide.
