The intriguing tale of French duo Kimshies continues… Their sole release from 2004 re-upped into the ether by Solomun in 2018, it triggered a return to the studio after almost 15 years. Making up for lost time, they’ve already dropped two exceptional EPs on Nein. Now comes their Duro debut… And it’s a perfect dark disco match.  

Even the title says as much ‘Fucked Up Mama’: a scuzzy, frazzled jam rich in oiled distortion and lighting strike synths and a rising case of venomous acid mid-way, there’s a grit in the groove that’s going to take more than a few lockdown handwashes to feel clean from. It’s coupled by a series of equally forthright remixes: fresh from completing his debut album for Life & Death, Disco Halal alumni Autarkic strips your mama down to her kickdrum undies and redresses her in a dynamic laser laced charmer.  

He’s in good company… Nein brethren Cabaret Nocturne makes a welcome appearance with a creeping dark electro twist while La Dame Noir’s Arthur Johnson gets busy with two perspectives; one where the swing and organs provide funky refreshment and a bonus one which takes us right back into the gritty analog mama-fucking attitude of the original. Exceptional. The intriguing tale continues…

PREMIERE : Kimshies - Fucked Up Mama

Just as glaciers heave towards their destiny in slow time, the ship entered the harbour. It’s countless thousands of tons gently docked, and its microbial passengers transmitted onto land. There it waited in silent gravity, expressing weight and weightlessness in one floating gesture. Can we truly fathom the scales of this leviathan?

If Strktur’s first three releases were made for the main room, then his latest album would surely soundtrack the dark room. He leaves behind the grandiosity of his early techno productions to discover a cosmopolitan coldwave swagger on Hors Série, his first LP. Sitting moodily amongst nine other superb tracks of ice-cool electro, 'Le Quai d'en Face' is a leanly arranged cut of austere synth-pop that eschews complexity in favour of a cut-throat groove. Importantly, he cuts ties with Nashton Records, Trau Mar and Airsound Records to self-release the LP on his own Bandcamp, structuring a new identity.

The beetle headed man renewed the hot sun everyday before rolling it above the horizon and carrying it away through to the other world after sunset only to renew it again the next day. The third instalment from Jac The Disco's 'Spin on This' output delivers the slow chugging affair of 'Hot Like The Sun' The EP features remixes from London's Kiwi who over the years has created a sound all of his own which has gained support from the likes of DJ Harvey, DJ Tennis and Optimo to name a few. 'Magic Feet' label boss Craig Bratley also features here. Craig himself has earned himself a solid reputation as a producer and re mixer with an eclectic output on respected labels such as Future Boogie, Throne of Blood, Tsuba, Instruments Of Rapture and Claremont 56. The EP has received DJ Support from the likes of Fabrizio Mammarella, Sean Johnston (ALFOS), Severino (HMD), Silicone Soul, Jennifer Cardini and Bill Brewster.

For the very only release of 2020, Blue Night Jungle decided to go 100% DIY. Through a 100% hand-dubbed tape and 9 tracks, we decided to gather many of the artists that attracted our attention in the recent months - as with long-time friends from the BNJ Catalogue (shout out to Lyon’s Jibis and Vardae). As 2020 wanted to, the compilation goes out of the club and reunites various atmospheres and musics. Sci-Fi ambient with Smogo, cavernous D’nB from Vardae, Adhémar’s electronica, greek downtempo of Anatolian Weapons and acid reflexions with Jibis, DudMode and Boskøw : this is just a glimpse of what you’ll hear there. Creative offspring of the musical fantasies of @Tushen_Rai and @CorneliusDoctor, Hard Fist brings together a passionate, supportive and activist party scene. Celebrating a globalized - but far from rootless - dancefloor where Turkish psychedelia, Lithuanian cold wave, Central African percussion and Indonesian polyphonic chants blend, Hard Fist crosses time and borders with a singular attachment to the folk music of trance, the kind that marks spiritual gatherings and festive rituals. Shaping the technological meeting of man and machine, the Hard Fist sound brings the experience as much on the dancefloor as in the calm of a Bedouin tent, always off the beaten track, with a free heart and clenched fists.
