Gladio Operations inaugurates 2023 with its seventh release titled “Split Machine”, a new series of shared EPs, where in this first episode the producers Jauzas The Shining and Cycloplex go halves on the EP.

The French producer returns to Gladio with three cuts which possess his peculiar and characteristic rugged sound. The EP launches with "Business Machines” and “Isla De Encanto”, two powerful cuts with aggressive and noticeable basslines filled-up with dark textures. Jauzas gifts us a last cut titled “Equation”, a nod to the EBM sound, where he preserves the same darkness as in the previous cuts.

On side B we encounter the Spanish producer Francisco Aguado, who has recently released his first work under the "Cultivated Electronics" label under his new electro alias, Cycloplex. With two cuts titled “Intercepted” and “Acid Machine”, Cycloplex reveals his particular minimalist vision of electro sound in an abstract journey of excellent monotonous rhythms.

Paris-based electronic music producer Gewaltem, a highly sensitive introvert, grew up in a catalyst musical environment, later conducive to his intellectual and personal growth. A fertile soil, consequently for the development of a musical meaning built on synesthetic processes where his cognitive and interpretive skills deliver Gewaltem a unique perception of the outside world. Between intimate wistful diary and sound experimentation, Gewaltem's music is an interesting paradox where the quest for blue and nocturnal anxieties rub shoulders, where opulent soundscapes lead to a romantic shuddering atmosphere, perceived as the only way to dodge the routine, express, understand, and overcome overwhelming feelings.

Solid Steel (10th October) Second Storey is our guest in Hour 1. Formerly known as Al Tourettes, his new project has an album out on Houndstooth this week and his mix takes in tracks from Sculpture, Efdemin, Laurel Halo, Cristian Vogel and Dopplereffekt.  This is what he had to say;
"It's a pleasure to be asked to do a mix for Solid Steel. I took the opportunity to focus on some of my primary creative inspirations…The mix takes in Ambient, Electronica, Techno, Experimental and Electro favourites new and old, alongside some of the music from my debut album 'Double Divide'…it's predominantly Space-Based with a few excursions to the Motherland along the way...I hope you enjoy it"

'In my HOUSE I am pleasantly disturbed’ - Miss Mana started as one of the first female dj’s in the early 90’s in the Netherlands and abroad. Blending acid-strewn Electro with twisted Wave and vocal allure, as the title suggests, the track is a dark mysterious exploration of desire and temptation, imbued with feelings of anxiety and danger throughout, instigated by a dance-inducing foundation of obsessively resonant scattered snare beats along with the mechanical shakings of humming low ends, pierced by desolate, shivering icy synths and neurotic squelchy acid lines, through a gripping build-up layering of hot and cold, fast and slow, also heavy and thin frequencies, interpolated twice with calm bewitching female spoken words swathed in reverb, inviting others to join in the “Devil’s Dance” using magnetic persuasion.

When Rotterdam-based, UK-born DJ/producer Birds (real name Katie Wilkinson) began putting together the tracks for her debut album, she realised that there was an ongoing theme to the vocal lines; they all were related to either being at, leaving or returning to some form of ‘home’, most likely because she made the move from The UK to The Netherlands less than 6 months before and was still going through the traumatising visa process. This led her to think about the philosophical question of what exactly is home. The album explores these themes.
Genre wise, the album is a deep dive into Birds’ Bass, Breaks and Electro-inspired influences with the occasional signature fuzzy guitar hook reminiscent of her earlier dark-wave material peppered in.
