F*ckin Swarm, Man! (disquiet0502)

Step 1: You’ll be creating the sound of a swarm of insects. First, select the insect sounds from sets that resulted from two previous Disquiet Junto projects.

Step 2: Create the sound of a swarm of insects approaching, gathering mass, and then passing you by, utilizing some of the sounds you selected in Step 1.

I've had a Korg Monotron Delay for a while but more recently bought the Monotron Duo but was a bit underwhelmed by it. This was a good reason to see if it deserved to stay. I think it does. The Duo was passed through the Delay and then recorded into Ableton. Then the track was subjected to Unfiltered Audio's Silo and Lo-Fi-AF as well as Wavesfactory's Quantum.

My first Weekly Beats recording of the year, “Three Clock Problem,” is a simple drone (yeah, yeah, arguably beat-less) I put together in VCV Rack 2. A series of quantized pitches are sent through a reverb that has a wide array of controls. Rather than one consistent clock, there are three clocks, one at a time, that are triggering the quantizing, including whether or not it’s even running. Due to the reverb’s generous spaciousness, there’s never a gap. It’s quite simple. The foundation of this originated from a patch by Omri Cohen.  Recorded in Audio Hijack from the system sounds, with the fade out introduced in Audition. More at disquiet.com/wb2022-01.

I played an electric bass part (harmonics imitating the original track's crystal drop melodies). I wasn't happy so I added a rhythmic picked bass part (that I edited afterwards)
Still not happy I performed a solo on my electric bass but it wasn't quite working. So reversed it. But still not happy I recorded a fourth track, adding a Twin Peaks style bass.
So I ended up recording 4 tracks on the very same instrument....not a good clue.
So I don't think I did nothing good to the beautiful original. I may revisit this.

The Assignment: In honor of Dave Brubeck’s classic recording of the Paul Desmond composition “Take Five,” record something original in 5/4 time.

I started with purely rhythmic elements to get into the groove, and then added this and that, and then threw things out. There was a very different first version https://soundcloud.com/winterer/partialraspberrytartlet , but I couldn't decide on it, and this second version felt more rounded.
