Lord Caitanya

Verse 1
O the Lord advented Himself on the Phālgunī Pūrṇimā evening,
In 1407 Śakābda, by the will of the Lord.
On that evening, there was a lunar eclipse,
And all of India roared with the holy sound.

Verse 2
During the eclipse, it was customary to bathe in the Ganges,
Or any sacred river, chanting Vedic mantras for purification.
When Lord Caitanya was born,
The whole world was filled with the holy sound of Hare Kṛṣṇa.

Verse 3
Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare,
Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.
These sixteen names are the Tāraka-brahma nāma,
They deliver the soul from material bondage.

Verse 4
These names are mentioned in many Purāṇas and Upaniṣads,
As especially recommended for this age.
It is said in the scriptures,
That chanting these holy names can purify the soul.

Verse 5
There are innumerable names of the Lord, both in India and outside,
All of them point to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
But these sixteen are especially recommended for this age,
And we should follow the path of the great ācāryas.

Verse 6
The great ācāryas succeeded by following the scriptures,
We should do the same and attain success.
This is the path for purification,
By chanting the holy names, our hearts will be cleansed.

Verse 7
The holy sound purifies the heart,
By repeating and chanting the Lord's name.
We must follow the path of the scriptures,
And purify ourselves from material illusions.

Verse 8
Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare,
Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.
These names are the key to liberation,
We must chant them without offenses.

Verse 9
By listening and chanting, we will be saved,
O Lord Caitanya, hear our call!
We follow Your path, the Supreme Personality,
You are the Lord, whom we adore.
