I’ve got those Memphis blues, rollin’ down the line again,
That lonesome river hummin’ low, callin’ out just like a friend.

The night train rattled past me where the cypress shadows lean,
And every whistle cried a memory of the towns where I have been,
I felt the Delta breathing slow beneath the silver of the moon,
And every step along that road still hummed the same old tune.

Mister Crump don’t low no easy riders here,
But I keep driftin’ anyway, holdin’ tight to what I hear,
And though the world keeps turnin’ rough, I steady through the year,
These Memphis blues gon’ follow me far as the highways clear.

I’ve walked through Beale Street early when the vendors set their stands,
Heard guitars moanin’ gentle in the warm of wakin’ lands,
Saw the faces of the workmen as they wiped the mornin’ sweat,
And knew the blues they carried were the ones I won’t forget.

But the folks of Memphis whisper songs that chase away the fear,
They stomp their feet, they clap their hands, they make the night sincere,
And every shout and every cry rings strong from far and near.

I’ve felt the river rising when the storms begin to swell,
And heard the steamboat captain ring his heavy-shakin’ bell,
The levee workers chantin’ as they faced the muddy roar,
Singin’ blues that rolled like thunder all along the shore.

Mister Crump don’t low no easy riders here,
But still the hearts of Memphis folk stay steady and sincere,
They bend but never crumble when the weight is drawin’ near,
And through it all the Memphis blues remain the song they hear.

I’ve wandered down the backroads where the gravel meets the clay,
Heard lonely footsteps echoin’ at the close of weary day,
And though my sorrow lingers like the smoke that won’t unwind,
These Memphis blues remind me there’s a strength I’ll always find.

But I keep movin’ forward with my eyes a little clear,
For even though the skies may break and nights may disappear,
These Memphis blues lift up my soul and wipe away the tear.

The world keeps changin’, slow or fast, but blues don’t ever fade,
They rise from every heartbreak that a ramblin’ life has made,
And when the road gets heavy and my footsteps tumble small,
The Memphis blues reach out to me and never let me fall.

So when the lantern’s flickerin’ and the midnight hums its song,
And the town is sleepin’ gentle though the night is deep and long,
I’ll hum the tune of Memphis till the mornin’ light is new,
These blues have walked beside me, and they always pull me through.

I’ve got those Memphis blues, softly carryin’ me home,
Where every heartbeat finds its place and no one walks alone.
