His technical capabilities are only matched by his understanding of modal and complex melody structures. He has impressed us with works we consider to be both ambient and organic while keeping an element of futureism and an ever-sharp tech edge. Day Dreaming is a subtle story of the lingering memories ever present when love clashes with absence. He has captured both the tension and resolve equated with the desire to be close with the use of dulcet tones and floating synthetic elements. Energy is propelled forward with the use of rhythmic breathing and then put to rest with an amazing pad structure that dials in the perfect amount of variation. Lending his talents to the revisions, classic-house legend Brett Johnson delivers a main room banger that twists through elevated synth work, electro inspired bass variations, and big time washes of melody. Brett’s remix is guaranteed to rock the late night disco with a work that we consider groundbreaking from this staple talent. Adding to the fire is deep techno pioneer Arthur Oskan, who was recently nominated for “Album of the Year” by the Canadian Juno Awards for his “A Little more than Everything” LP. Arthur takes a slow burn approach to the re-work with an in depth dive into creepy late night space. His piece creeps with deliverance into some dark territory, delivering vocal snippets with building anticipation. The resolve comes when an arppegiated synth begins fill the soundscape and spirals the listener into cosmic territory. In the spirit of our vinyl roots (HD001-HD004) we have provided a DJ Tool for fun interplay of the vocal elements to compliment any selection. Lastly, Molecule delivers a digital exclusive with a rotating cadence of amazing tones and textures. His approach was methodical, even encompassing some “Steve Reich esk” melodic rotations. A break away from the purely cerebral Day Dreaming, All Things Move in Cycles can be understood by any musically minded enthusiast.

I started out mixing all of the vinyl I had collected at the tender age of 16. By that point I had a healthy stash of 12" singles bought at the local record shops, Waterloo and Sound Exchange in Austin, Texas. It was 1990 and I had no idea where my fascination with mixing records would eventually lead me.

When the birth of the Austin rave scene happened in 1992 after a passionate couple of ravers from San Francisco moved to my home city, I was right there in the thick of it and quickly became one of Austin's most successful DJ's, playing at a majority of the events happening in the capital city.

When by chance, in 1994, a guy named Daniel Foreman who was about to open a club in Austin showed up to a warehouse party that the other prominent DJ's of Austin's underground scene and I were playing at, the unlikely birth of Proteus happened. I was one of the resident DJs at Proteus for several years and became even more well known and in demand. Proteus is still, after 20 years, notoriously known as one of Austin's  most loved and influential nightclubs ever.

While all of this was going on, I was honing my production skills as well, eventually attending and graduating from Pyramind, a music production, theory, and business school in San Francisco. This led to my music being released worldwide by  record labels such as Harmonious Discord Recordings, Whiskey Pickle Records, Denied Music, Fett Recordings, LB Recordings, Alakazam Recordings, MadRat Promotions, SubTech Collective Light, and others.

Many years later, now having lived in San Francisco for over a decade and with the incredible success of my production work, I have begun my own record label, Subplot Recordings in order to influence your mind and control your body on the dance floor, wherever that may be.

Harmonious Discord Recordings has been the purveyor of offbeat melodies for DJ’s and producers “in-the-know” for over 20 years. Founded in 2001 by Moon Magnet productions front men Sean Anderson, Brad Denton, and David Brown; HD’s aim has been to provide a musical outlet for artists that continue to defy convention at every opportunity. Harmonious Discord’s name was devised to represent a collective rebellion against the sea of mediocre and brainless music polluting the airwaves. Its motto “Cacophony at its Finest” displays the contrast of what some view as noise (or cacophony) and what others view as music. The beauty of music is that it is subjective and the brilliance lies with the listener. We have strived in our 10 year run to combine the innovative and legendary sounds of Jazz and the new and basic sounds of the tech revolution, which is represented in our logo (a martini glass w/ sprocket).

Originally a vinyl only media Harmonious Discord released its first vinyl record in January of 2002 with a premier release by two of Harmonious Discords home-based artists; Ahman (David Brown) and newly added artist Litex (Eric Reeves). The project received warm regards but did not make a huge splash in the electronic music community. It wasn’t till their second release, a techy offbeat two tracker by Austin native Merrick Brown, that HD was written into the books of dance music history. The second release was canned by DJ notables from all over the world and quickly rose to the top of the balance chart. In 2003 we saw another huge hit with the release of Grey’s first HD release titled “Naughty Glances” and the floor filling remix by Seattle’s own Jacob London. The vinyl only production continued until 2007 when Harmonious Discord decided to embrace the digital revolution and joined forces with Beatport, the industries leader in digital distribution. Many years later our family has grown to encompass artists like Chakaharta and Patchen Preston who have forged a solid foundation using Harmonious Discord as their main production outlet. Harmonious Discord has forged onward with digital releases that span multiple genre’s and showcase some of the most forward thinking artists in today’s electronic music landscape.

Music is like nothing else I've ever experienced in it's ability to express emotions that our modern language has no words for. Based on this perception, I have developed a lifelong passion for sound and the way it can communicate to people from all walks of life. Music truly is my favorite gift to give as it can be an endless beacon of understanding and happiness, even when no one else can understand the way we feel.
