Immense guitariste et compositeur égyptien, Omar Khorshid fut présenter, à tort, comme un ovni et un précurseur, qui porterait sur ses seuls épaules, l'arrivée de la guitare électrique dans les pays arabes. 

Or, Omar n'est pas le premier ni le dernier des arabes à avoir fait du rock et a avoir fait usage d'une guitare électrique. Il n'est pas un ovni, au contraire, il fut même l'icône pop d'une génération, beau gosse du cinéma égyptien. Il est même l'héritier direct d'une musique arabe, dite classique, dont il rejoindra rapidement les rangs et à laquelle il sera toujours fidèle. 

Ce podcast remet les points sur les i et de retracer sa carrière en se demandant ce que Omar Khorshid, roi de la guitare électrique, doit aux genres musicaux arabes classiques.  Car Omar Khorshid n'a pas imité les occidentaux, pas plus qu'il n'a vécu sa musique comme de la fusion. Il a mis la guitare électrique au service de sa culture et des sien comme le prouve ses collaborations avec les plus grands de Oumkalthoum, à Abdelwahab et surtout avec Abdelhalim Hafez, qui joue un rôle décisif dans sa carrière.  Son rock aussi n'est pas une imitation. Il est comme lui : égyptien et arabe.
