Your favourite Hexstatic mix appeared in October starting with Sol Heilo's wonderful rework of Sbtrkt’s 'Hold On' blending into the beautiful and much overlooked Luke Abbott and his dreamy electronica. Then it's classic, stripped back house from Backroom Productions mixing with a spot of 'Intercourse' from HaHaHa & Raksha. More uplifting music from Jack Dixon and into classic Four Tet from his collected 12"s on 'Pink'. A lovely remix of Koreless' Lost In Tokyo drops into two banging remixes of Adam F's 'Circles' from Eats Everything and PhillpDKick to close this section.
Unsurprisingly, the most popular mix for DJ Cheeba, DJ Moneyshot and DJ Food was their epic version of the Beastie Boys‘ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ album made entirely from the original sample sources titled ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’ . Each of them took a third of the album to work on and combined their efforts into a mix that will make you hear it in a new way. Aside from the original sample sources they’ve included commentary from the Beasties, vintage interviews, demo versions and much more. The full mix was broadcast in August, it has over 70K plays on Soundcloud, it was featured in the Guardian and LA Times and blogged all over the world.

This wraps up a vintage year for Solid Steel and in 2013 we celebrate 25 Years of broadcasting 'The Broadest Beats', since the show began on pirate Kiss FM in 1988. Watch this space..............

Solid Steel in association with Serato (28th December) We start our review of the most popular mixes by the Solid Steel DJ's in 2012, as voted by you the listeners. 'In no particular order' we kick off with Coldcut and their mix from September starting with a heavy reggae selection from Courtney Melody, Ninjaman and Poison Chang who are joined by Om Unit, Ty & Roots Manuva and Hudson Mohawke. We hit double time with Enei, Dub Phizix and Guardians of Dalliance from 96, then two from Greensleeves with Mr Vegas and Admiral Bailey, before closing with The Bug, The Qemists and Dream Continuum.
We stay in September for DK's most popular mix, with 3 tracks from the Two Fingers album, a couple of VIP treatments for Om Unit and Dub Phizix, twisted beats from Dr Octagon and a clash between Wiley and Mark Pritchard, given a Harmonic 313 remix. Then it's back to 2001 with Koushik for the first release on Four Tet's Text label and further back to 1972 with a funk 45 from SOD, before closing with Mala in Cuba and Tenor Saw reconstructed by both King Yoof vs Gold and Soundbwoy.

In 2013 we celebrate 25 Years of broadcasting 'The Broadest Beats', since the show began on pirate Kiss FM in 1988. Watch this space..............

A few years back, I played and performed one of my favorite themes from Lord of the Rings The Two Towers Soundtrack:   The Rohan Theme.  I used it as a way to test out a new sample library of orchestra sounds, and was pleased with the results.  This is Howard Shore's masterpiece, in a great sounding midi format.   No sheet music was used for this.
