Alistair Reid is a concert organist, pianist, conductor, and teacher. He is Director of Music at St. Joseph's Yorkville, New York's German national parish on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

The pipe organ is the oldest keyboard instrument. The history of the organ is rich and diverse. For years I have been honored to work with some of the best organists in the world - these are recordings from my travels around the world.

From the very early days of its origins and then starting to build just after the turn of the 20th Century, through to its completion in 1978 after 74 long, hard, but rewarding years, the unfolding story of this great cathedral, the largest in the whole of the UK and the fifth largest in the world, is both fascinating and quite unique. It survived 2 World Wars, periods of recession and great hardship in this once famous and important port of Liverpool to become a tribute to the dedication of a great many people and their skills. Salisbury Cathedral has three choirs: the Cathedral Choir, the Cathedral Chamber Choir and the Cathedral Junior Choir. The majority of our services are led by the Cathedral Choir, consisting of sixteen boy or girl choristers, and six lay vicars. Our Director of Music is David Halls, who conducts the majority of the Cathedral’s sung services. The organ is played either by our Assistant Director of Music, John Challenger, or our Organ Scholar, Henry Websdale. The Cathedral Chamber Choir is our mixed-voice adult choir, and the Cathedral Junior Choir is for younger voices. Music has always played an important part in the Cathedral's worship, and there are usually nine sung services per week. Evensong is sung daily at 5.30pm (4.30pm Sundays) and on a Sunday morning Mattins is sung at 9.15am and Eucharist at 10.30am.

As a jewel in the crown of Cornwall’s arts scene, Truro Cathedral Choir broadcasts regularly on television and radio, presents concerts throughout the year, and records for the acclaimed record label Regent.

The choir dates back to the 1880s when services took place in a wooden shed whilst John Loughborough Pearson’s magnificent Gothic Revival cathedral was still under construction.

Today, the choir consists of eighteen boy choristers, eighteen girl choristers, and twelve adult professional singers. All organise their lives around the choir’s busy schedule of commitments which has at its heart seven sung services each week during term time.

Our performances are regularly attended by music lovers from all backgrounds and we invite you to join us at one of our services or concerts, or to listen to our broadcasts, webcasts and recordings!
