Based in London, made in Leeds, Ten Hands High's sound has evolved drastically since their inception in 2019 and has now arrived at Vibe Central Station. The name “Let’s Whisper” implies secrets—the sorts of things you’d tell friends in a night’s waning hours, as the sun is about to peek over the horizon. Colin Clary and Dana Kaplan have been friends and musical collaborators for years, and the openhearted, detail-rich indiepop they craft together reflects their rich creative relationship and trust in each other. On The In-Between Times, the second Let’s Whisper full-length—the band’s first release in eight years, and first as a five-piece—the Burlington-based band digs deeper into their day-to-day worlds while confronting their individual and collective futures.    
“This is a record about love and loss and change and possibilities,” Colin and Dana say about The In-Between Times, which comes out on Fika Recordings in August 2022. Indeed, the prevailing mood of this album is a sense of grounding, of not letting the big questions of life—“what gets you through the night?”, “will I see you around the town?”, “have you done the thing that defines you yet?”—completely obfuscate the minutiae that makes it beautiful.  
Musically and lyrically detailed, The In-Between Times is the work of a band that uses the catchy melodies and jangling guitars of indiepop to peel off into exciting, and at times unexpected, musical and lyrical directions. “The Thing That Defines You” is crisp and questioning, with squiggles of guitar at its melody’s fringes implying the strands of identity that a friend is trying to see in order to get a full, unencumbered-by-narrative picture of someone they love. “Sing!” swells from a gentle jangle into a triumphant trans anthem that charmingly flips the bird to societal norms. “40 Ways To Love You” pairs its pointillistic detailing of a loved one’s best qualities with a weepy guitar countermelody that makes the romance all the more poignant.        
Let’s Whisper started as a home-recording project between Colin and Dana, also in the beloved “open-hearted indiepop revolutionaries” The Smittens, in the mid-2000s. Writing and recording music at home resulted in more tightly knit songwriting process, which the pair referred to as “Whispering.” After releasing a pair of EPs, 2008’s Make Me Smile and 2010’s Keep a Secret, Let’s Whisper brought on drummer Brad Searles (Eef, The Also-Rans), expanding and adding a fulcrum to their sound. Since Brad joined, Let’s Whisper has released one album, 2011’s The Shortest Days, and a 10-inch, 2014’s As Close As We Are. The latter was called “short and sweet, by turns deadpan in its delivery and sentimental in its subject matter” by the Vermont weekly Seven Days, and it was Let’s Whisper’s last release until now.
But Let’s Whisper has kept creatively busy in those ensuing years. In addition to the three members pursuing their own projects individually and together, Let’s Whisper toured the US and the UK, rounding out its lineup with bassist-guitarist Jeff Baron (Essex Green, Ladybug Transistor) in the States and bassist-vocalist Emma Kupa (Standard Fare, Mammoth Penguins) in Great Britain. For the recording of The In-Between Times, both Jeff and Emma joined Colin, Dana, and Brad during sessions at Marlborough Farms in Brooklyn—although they did so a year apart, with Emma recording her parts (including banjo on the chiming “Simple Times” and vocals and banjo on the plainspoken “Long Run”) with the core three in 2017 and Jeff adding guitar and keyboards in 2018, when the finishing touches were put on the album by studio owner and engineer Gary Olson.  
With The In-Between Times, Let’s Whisper have created an album that, even in its more pensive and mournful moments, celebrates the array of what life has to offer—the elation of watching hot-air balloons lift off at sunset, the triumph that comes with living honestly, the joy that comes when an open heart is mirrored by a friend, or a fan, or a loved one. Having made an undeniable impact with his debut EP ‘Oxygen’ last April, which saw Harvey Jay Dodgson’s grainy vocals turn heads across national radio, TV and press, the 20-year-old alt-indie artist releases his latest single, ‘You Belong To Me’ out July 15th. 
Stripping back his earlier incarnation of cavernous, guitar-laden indie, ‘You Belong To Me’ allows Dodgson to really showcase what makes his brand of indie so unique - his whiskey soaked vocals. With just Harvey and his acoustic guitar, the track is a love story, albeit an unconventional one, as he candidly opens up about his personal journey with and love for music. With anthemic potential, ‘You Belong To Me’ is an exciting first instalment and firm foundation for Dodgson’s EP set for release later this year. 
In Harvey Jay Dodgson own words, he explains; 
“’You Belong To Me' is my ode to music. Originally written in an afternoon before a gig in an attempt to break up the set towards the end, it captivated the audience with its acoustic vibe, and its simplicity makes it very easy to sing along to. I loved how this song I wrote about my feelings towards music made people interact with music itself, and therefore I decided to record and release it for people who feel the same way. Music has been a part of my life from the very beginning, so thank you music - you belong to me.” 
In a single-take, one-shot video, the sincerity of Dodgson’s emotive narrative comes to life in its humblest form as he removes all externalities and sits alone in a field with just himself, his guitar and music - watch here. 
The year so far has seen Harvey has play The Great Escape Festival, Isle of Wight Festival and High Tide Festival, with further festival appearances lined up including 110 Above Festival, Victorious Festival and Live At Leeds. Backed by industry recognised Alex Hardee (Liam Gallagher, Sia, Clean Bandit) from Wasserman booking agency, Harvey’s appearances in the live scene are set to get bigger and bigger. 


Working on his previous EP ‘Oxygen’ with Michael Smith (Wolf Alice, Anteros) at RYP Studios, Dodgson was named BT TV and Scotts Menswear as ‘One to Watch 2021’,as well as receiving a glowing review from Clash Magazine.

Song after song, his set felt crammed with potential anthems – a precocious display, one that echoed everyone from Sam Fender to Jake Bugg via The Smiths.
Debut single 'Caroline' is the starting point for this Portsmouth riser, and it's an immaculate introduction from a potent talent.
Biting guitar pop with a surging chorus, 'Caroline' is a neat, compact, distilled example of what makes Harvey's music so exciting.

Background Hailing from Portsmouth, Harvey Jay Dodgson started playing the guitar at the age of 7 and by 9 years of age had written his first piece of music. His early inspiration came after being introduced by older brother Neil to the music of Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday and the free- flowing vocal melodies of Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles. He says, "It instantly opened my eyes (or should I say ‘ears’) to a completely different sound of music." It was discovering the jazz-influenced artists, King Krule and Cosmo Pyke who inspired him to experiment further and he was soon ready to create his own music.

You Belong To Me

Sydney indie rock three-piece Crystal Cities have made a triumphant return after almost a year-long hiatus. Although that’s not to say they haven't been busy. Lead vocalist and guitarist/keyboardist Geoff Rana has been spending days on end in his self-made studio where he’s been writing, producing and engineering the band’s latest material. Today we get the first taste of said latest material in the form of new single, “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore”. 

While the band’s previous effort - their sophomore album Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight - was an exercise in hard-hitting alternative rock that could rattle a live audience, “Love Don’t live Here Anymore” feels more explorative and colourful. Yes, the signature big anthemic chorus is still there, however this time it feels more personable, more relatable, and more emotive. Rana even tries his hand at a low croon for the song’s verses which will be a pleasant surprise for listeners familiar with their back catalogue. 

"I happened to be going through one of those 'down' moments where giving up music and writing songs seemed like the best option for moving forward with my life... Wild peaks of motivation followed by troughs of listlessness are simply part of the experience of being a creative person struggling to find some semblance of success in an ever-changing world... Ironically, it was when I was feeling at my lowest that I happened to sit down with my guitar and start strumming the opening chords for ‘Love Don’t Live Here Anymore’.

It was through this song that I found myself reuniting with why I write songs and why I love it so much. ‘Love Don’t Live Here Anymore’ is about the experience of losing something or someone you once loved and then the joy you get from reconnecting with, or rediscovering that something or someone."

The song also features the band’s newest member, Neel Shukla. Shukla replaces previous drummer Daniel Conte who has performed on all the band’s previous work. 

Long-time Crystal Cities collaborator Paul Lani (David Bowie, Prince) was once again tapped to handle mixing and mastering duties for the recording.

SInce the band’s formation in 2016 they have released a highly praised EP - Who’s Gonna Save Us Now (2017) - and two critically acclaimed albums - Under The Cold Light of the Moon (2019) and Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight (2021). 

The band consists of Geoff Rana (lead vocals, guitar, keys), Jared King (Bass, backing vocals), and newest member, Neel Shukla (Drums).

Alta Falls reveal their straight-up electro-pop single ‘I’m At A Loss’. It’s a shimmery, upbeat track that comes in waves, peaking and crashing at just the right moments.

“The words, “I’m at a loss” came to me out of the blue while Matt was showing me a new song idea he had been playing around with,” explains lead singer, Nathanael. “The phrase intrigued me, so I reached out to our followers on Discord, and asked them what ‘I’m at a loss’ means to them. Their answers formed the inspiration for the lyrics of the song.”
