Can't believe it's been over a year since the pandemic started AND since I've played a set!! Here's a 3 hour set I played at a friends Guest Farm called Linquenda, this past weekend in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Sonic Loom presents THOS GROL with a live mix of his finest productions in this episode. Plotting behind the project 'Thos Grol' is Dimitris. The project grew out of his need to convey his experience of ‘Liberation Through Hearing’ a phrase taken from the Tibetan book of the dead. After many years of studying soundology and experimenting with all kinds of electronic equipment and sound sources, the time is ripe to put all thoughts together and express them in music. From science f(r)iction to science facts, expect a mode of subversive psychedelia blended with a bit of poetry.

Sérgio Leitão is the person behind Hydra-E, a twilight forest psytrance live act.
Hydra-E grew up amongst a family of musicians, putting him in touch with music since a very early age. He later developed a taste for electronic music. Sérgio was a DJ touching upon the realms of rock, metal, and trance, for several years, all the while we was developing Hydra-E on the background – until the day it couldn’t be hidden anymore.
Hydra-E is the result of years and years of carefully listening to psytrance and all different sonorities it entails.
The project started in 2016 , and many tracks have since been released on some of the best labels known today.

Digital Forest 2019 in Czech Republic

Marco Riipi aka ‘’Shenanigan” was born 1991 and raised in Sweden. At an early age he began listening to a variety of electronic music. By 2006 he finished his first track using the program Fruity loops and after some time producing Hardstyle he began going to local Psytrance parties and it immediately captivated his imagination. 

He has played at numerous parties and festivals in Sweden and Denmark, for instance Forest Star, Spiritz of The Jungle, Skogen Kallar, Electronic Culture. After releasing 2 EP’s at Maharetta Records and 1 EP at Sangoma Records plus a lot of tracks on different VA’s he has now built a solid foundation of his undeniably unique and elegant style demonstrates his clear understanding and apperception for all elements of the modern psychedelic trance.

Mo:Dem 2019

Here is a part of the set i recorded while playing in Chengdu, China November 2019. A stunning country which is rich in myth and mystery with a young urban generation which is opening up and interacting with the world. What to say, the dragon is slowly awakening and there is a nice and growing scene appearing on the map! Great people and pure proper Underground vibes. Big thanks to Fugui, Dong Fang, Yaolic and Buzz for setting up this tour and regards to all the great people i got to meet during my stay.

From its origins as totems the Chinese dragon (Long) evolved to become a important mythical animal in folklore and mythology  all over East Asia.
Chinese dragons have many animal but the most popular one is the  snake-like avatar with four legs. They traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers, particularly control over water, rainfall, typhoons, and floods. The dragon is also a symbol of power, strength, and good luck for people who are worthy of it in East Asian culture.

Daksinamurti @ China - Awakening the Dragon

Hashashin is the psytrance project of Belgium based musician Quentin Van Houtte. His musical journey started in the early 90's as a drummer playing metal beats in the basement with his elder brother on guitars. In 2004, he got violently hit by electronic music and eventually built a home studio to focus all his energy on music production. 

Since his first appearance behind the decks in 2009, this rastaman has been shaking his dreads for his audience in unimaginable dancefloors from a deep tropical jungle to a fancy castle including a WW2 bunker. Hashashin live sets at monstrous festivals such as Modem, Universo Parallelo, Hadra, Shankra, Human Evolution, Wao, Space Safari, SUN, among others were epic. His improvisation skills allow him to adapt to the vibe of every dancefloor. 

He joined the Brussels crew "Elektro Magnetik" in 2009, and was signed on by "Green Tree Records" later in 2013. Since 2017, he is sailing on the "World People Production"  boat and is also a resident artist for "High Frequencies". He released more than 60 tracks, including a full album and 2 EP’s besides being featured on numerous VA’s. Hashashin’s collab repertoire includes notorious blasters like Synthetik Chaos, Virtual Light, Jumpstreet, Yabba Dabba, Dr Fractal, Wood Warden, Chakraview, H-Sunrise, Lucid Mantra, etc… 

His music oscillates between 148 to 152 bpm, providing strong and groovy basslines, tribal hypnotic percussions, twisted organic synth textures and funny samples  bursting dancefloors into a powerful explosion.
