Eatbrain follow up Billain’s incredible ‘Colonize’ EP with the fresh new introduction to the wider Neurofunk landscape of Russian production trio GYDRA.Withpowerful and raw production on the dark side of Tech, this multi-headed force smash their way into Eatbrain in relentless style with their ‘Cyborg’ EP. Formed in 2014, and composed of individual producers Mizo, Menfort and Bes, they’ve been dominating the Russian DnB scene with their legendary Neuropunk events and podcasts. Their militant aesthetic and innate feel for eyeball shaking funk proves once again Eatbrain’s skillful ability in picking the strongest of emerging artists, able to hold their own alongside their roster of seasoned pioneers.

Layered paranoid pads lure listeners into PSYCHO’s huge half-step intro, with MC Coppa’s deadly serious vocals punctuating the darkness and keeping the vibe on edge. Massive rolling beats are backed with an edgy plucked synth that really drives the heavy discomfort.

The depth of the forest was unknown to those who lived at its verge. Shadows cast from the dense canopy seemed to reach out towards those who passed close by, wisps of darkness unfurling and twisting around the limbs of the youngest that dared to play at its sinister edge. The oldest stories of its roots passed across the creaking voices of the town pensioners hunched in the safety of others, discretely whispered and shot through with fearful looks. The allure of that dense and ancient place stretched back eternal, and bitter consequence waited for those who breached its dark heart.  The crew ignored the nonsense of such crones, pulling the carts of equipment under the cover of dusk until the sounds of the town were but a memory. The speaker stacks were raised against the night, strings of lights hung between the trees and purity of disturbed bass rolled against the surrounding trunks as they disentangled themselves from the mundane fiber of the lives they left behind. Twisting against one another as they let flood serotonin delight, they ignited an orgy of sonic symbiosis as the rave found its wings and took flight. The spores drifted imperceptibly into the clearing from the darkness around, lodging without discomfort in the eyes, ears and noses of the gathered young. And then the screaming started, the undulating mass of the gathering turned inward… devouring itself as limbs were separated from bodies, necks ripped as skin tore loose and the blood flowed freely over the gnashing faces of those left alive at the KILL PARTY… 
  
GYDRA return to EATBRAIN in force, following up their well-received CYBORG EP with the dynamic, darkly driven but funk-laced assault of the KILL PARTY EP. From the old-school drenched piano and ultrafunk of the title track, to the playful sinister intent of PRIMITIVE INSTINCT, the filthy sub explorations of PROBLEM and the predatory sensibilities of IKRA – the 4 tracks within display the dynamic and exploratory character of the production outfit. This is Russian neurofunk at its finest, delivered on the platform that’s tailored exactly to the premiere kinetic nature of its content.

The forthcoming LP from The Clamps and Kosen Productions isn’t just a collection of records which the French artist has spent months perfecting. It’s also a colossal look into the soundscape which such a high-calibre artist has at their disposal. Stretching across fifteen tracks, between drum & bass and garage, The Clamps focuses around the insanity that is stretching itself across the contemporary world and how he’s helped to define this sonically through each one of his records. There’s also a host of sci-fi inspired cuts which add to the LP’s explosive themes. From the already revealed record ‘LHS 1140b’, with a name that’ll resonate for any space fans, right through to the hard-hitting throws of ‘End of an Era’, there’s a taste to suit every palette throughout every expertly composed record. 

After already setting an enviable standard with the undeniably heavyweight standards on tracks like ‘Looking for Trouble’ alongside the notorious Nuklear MC, standalone offerings such as ‘Mankind’ and ‘30a #3a-23 Happiness’ peddle an unforgettable level of engineering whilst also pushing through a cinematic backdrop. Then a range of collaborations follow in their wake, including ‘Astronauts’ alongside Impak, as well as Snotrocket for ‘Friends in the Hood’. Merikan also joins the fray with ‘Fast Way’. 

The pace is continued to be set with ‘Cattle Mutilation’, whilst Mizo and The Clamps join forces for the meticulously sequenced drums of ‘Time Pressure’. ‘Medina’ pulls you through its half-time madness whilst adding to the LP’s strident versatility, which is followed in quick succession by ‘Soul of the Abyss’ with its throbbing LFOs. The Clamps and NickBee then merge their collective talents for ‘Addicted’, with its more old-school underpinnings. ‘The First and the Last’ platforms the creeping atmospherics which characterises many pieces of The Clamps’ sonic artillery, whilst ‘End of an Era’ draws the album to a close on a cataclysmic breakdown which takes you deep into the belly of the beast. ‘End of an Era’ alludes to The Clamps’ hardcore roots, whilst paying homage to the new foundations he’s laid down through his new music and Kosen Productions.

A remix we did of M-Soul & S27's 'Illuminate', with P. Fine on vocal duties. The original was the first track ever to come out on Halogen Music and we did the remix shortly after. After sitting on it for a few years and using it strictly as a DJ tool, we decided to brush off the cobwebs, add a few extra edits and finally put it out for you guys to enjoy. 

Big ups to Julien from Halogen, Kenny and Nick on the original track, Pete for the vocals, James Cobbett on the cracking artwork and Bob Macc for the wicked mastering work.

EXE-D004 - Lucio De Rimanez, Might / Sequence EP.

We are delighted to welcome Lucio De Rimanez to the EXE family for our fourth release. Bridging the gap between breakcore and the darker side of the dnb scene, his music is in a class of its own. Having racked up a slew of formidable releases on some of the most iconic labels in the industry, the Russian producer is known for fierce, bone shattering drums and ingenious arrangements of sound. EXE-D004 contains four tracks of precision engineered, dystopian dance-floor destruction and with remixes by Manchester's Meecha and Nian Dub to accompany the two original tracks, the darkness comes in many different shades. 

With an impressive back catalogue of unique and varied drum and bass flavoured music, the focus on quality over quantity has allowed Lucio to create the kind of tunes that leave a lasting impression. Going beyond hard and noisy for its own sake, this producer works like a true craftsman, carving out sound sculptures that stand the test of time like monuments to futuristic dystopia. His ability to create bass driven music that both shocks and excites is what defines him and the first release from Lucio since 2014 demonstrates his continuing development as an artist. 

Might sounds like a symphony played by sonic weapons. Brutal and ferocious from the outset, this track features military style snare rolls to punctuate the relentless, pounding half time rhythm that dominates throughout. Augmented with tortured rave stabs and sinister horror film chuckles, the huge kick drum thumps in to the pit of your stomach as the snares and percussion crack you around the head. This tune is the snarling, merciless end of level boss that makes you snap your controller. The skull shattering, sledgehammer blow that ends the battle. Reminiscent of some of the classic hard dnb that shaped the genre we know today, the sheer force of this tune is impossible to ignore. After a brief respite provided by a distant, haunting piano that allows you to acclimatise and tend to your wounds, the superbly selected video game samples signal that the full force of that savage, driving, military rhythm has just reloaded for another assault. You don't stand a chance. 

Sequence is the sound of artificial intelligence awakening in the darkness of a burnt out city. The age of the machines has entered a new era and the line between the human and digital self no longer exists.  A cyborg built from chrome and alien circuitry stalks the neon streets under the gun metal grey of acid rain clouds, slaying all comers with indiscriminate brutal, efficiency. This is the sound of the self destruct sequence. The bassline swells and flexes like melted rubber and the artillery grade drums create an immediate impact that will set  dance-floors and synapses ablaze with frenetic, chaotic energy. The second half of the tune demonstrates Lucio's immeasurable versatility as he breaks the rhythm down and reconstructs it to create that glorious switch in tempos that makes it seem like the world is falling apart around you. To create something sounds like destruction is a fine art and this tune rolls like liquid metal forging a path through concrete.
