With a background in playing jazz and formative years of playing saxophone in a live band, Prague-based Ursula Sereghy stepped out of the hustle to focus, all while becoming a regular at the local Synth Library. A space where she found the support of the musically and politically like-minded and could nourish her newfound passion for experimenting with machines and exploring the limitless possibilities of sound design. An extensive period of voluntary detachment from everyday life during the pandemic gave rise to the stunningly confident debut album 'OK Box' fabricated by this dark horse of a producer.

Opening 'OK Box' reveals a truly multifarious microcosm. On her very first musical output, besides manipulated field recordings and widely used granular synthesis, Ursula draws wisely from her past musical practice as acoustic or synthesized samples of jazz instruments become the furtive common denominator of the record's sonic narrative. Circulation of the breath among the instruments chambers substitutes the streams of city dwellers flowing through the cramped city environment. With Ursula's entangled compositions, she creates the representation of revealing and embracing the intuitive connections of the experiences and thoughts with their mental and physical surroundings, at times leading the listener to melancholic placements, followed by moments of mischievous clarity and rational sentiment. But essentially, the longplay is a friendly ride following unusual mental maps and broadening the borders of the very cartographical ones, all with inconspicuous sideroad peeks of cheeky little creatures, still surveillance by destiny-bending spirits, and oversaturation of out-there emotional associations. Hang in there, you little civilians and slimy slugs alike. To cut a long story short - 'OK Box' houses a lively collection of warm-hearted and witty jams honoring the nature of reasonable escapism.

On Organe Solaire (GEN051) by https://soundcloud.com/amselysen a coherent ensemble is presented consisting of digital, hyperprocessed textures, minuscule sound fragmentations and impassioned, pressing vocal broadcasts. Deceptively, the sound at intermittently even approaches something like a sugary sweet pop production: chord stabs, piano tones, heartfelt howling, energetic kicks, the whole works. The most powerful weapons in the electro-acoustic toolkit are used here: sound events occur on a microscopic scale, sliced, granulated, pitch-bent, resonant, bubbling, stretching - but at the same time have an impactful, cinematic, piercing quality. From the arrangement point of view there is a cryptic multi-centered, restless logic, with the trajectory of all tracks constantly getting out of balance, twisting, self-subverting. The human voice, or the remnants of it, form an important thread through this album; spanning a wide tonal, textural range, the voice material is sometimes vocoded, stuttering, crushed, resampled, fried, totally pushed beyond its limits; but at other times innately performative, assertive - a declaration of intent or active intervention, conveying meaning, communicating something important. “My [Amselysen’s] second full length album’s focus, Organe Solaire, strays from conceptual music and goes on dissecting and splaying a dark but colourful sludge of emotions. A major point source in my compositional approach to the record has been imagining the trajectory of hyper-pop if it evolved with a more pessimistic tendency, with the same bells and whistles, but less shiny and squeaky clean — like the rainbow reflections of tar bubbles.
Organe Solaire, unable to afford being cryptic, doubles down on honest, raw lyricism and is quick to open up, building a comprehensive musical and gestural language that reflects the narratives behind each and every track. They range from slow suicidal ballads, to demented hyper-melancholic pop, to interludes containing heavy narratives, like Discrepancies (for Kellyanne): a heavily filtered piano composition dating from my late teens, also acting as a hope to reach out to a long lost then-best friend.
I did not shy away at referencing personal idols who’ve inspired me throughout the years: The Labour of Love samples Akira Fuse’s Shikuramen No Kahori, a song mentioned in Joji Koyama and Tujiko Noriko’s feature length film Kuro, and matches its theme: gazing at the afterimage of a romance long gone. Post-modern Tsunami, as outlined by “shoutout to Hito Steyerl”, is made to the image of Steyerl’s Liquidity Inc.: in its wave-like structure; in its senseless meme aesthetic; and nods at its conceptual approach, dissecting contemporary culture with economic undertones.
To aid me in my efforts, I have called upon two outstanding collaborators to lend their strengths on the album. I’ve recruited the excellent Ubu Boi, providing tactful compositions and solid vocal performances, and the mysterious 2x|n, a.k.a. Seraphim, for precise sound design and incisive aural interventions.
Delving into romantic torment, drug use, artistic frustrations, struggles with mental illness, Organe Solaire brings forth a fundamentally human experience in the form of raw edges thinly veiled under a layer of gloss.”

Forever is in multiplicity and mutation. Musician and visual artist Nicola Tirabasso (VISIO), together with Haunter founders Daniele Guerrini and Francesco Birsa Alessandri called for a collective effort in order to celebrate these elements of experience. In opposition to linear notions of time itself. An attempt to let perceptions of future and past bleed together, to establish every moment as an infinite process of consumption and re-generation. A compilation of 33 artists, each contributing in their own peculiar style, adding their own blends to the palette and exposing the lineage of their work. It is precisely to state that the perennial immanence of difference is what constitutes the basis for true unity, that the curators have grouped an utterly diverse cast of contributors, whose output strikes a vastity of moods and textures, and grows out of very distinct intentionalities and backgrounds. Making kin without borders, letting mutual support evolve into a chimeric infinity.

CHUCKLE is the first solo release by Leisha Thomas as Alpha Maid on the C.A.N.V.A.S. label, following a contribution to the recent Apocope compilation LP. The signature Alpha Maid genre prevails—the sincere, strong vocal style, aligned with a UK indignant and iconoclastic artistic lineage, set against dredging, grungy instrumentals reminiscent of North American open plains or urban sprawl. As if desert rock had occurred in mundane and claustrophobic South London rather than the Southern States. Alpha Maid observes and reflects on an urban, smoggy, UK surrounding, although appears to drive through it on an open interstate highway in a really wide car.

Alpha Maid's vocals vacillate between sometimes candid, close and unclouded, then drifting towards fragmentary, cutting and pasting in the manner of unstable media or limited bandwidth.

Opening with a quote—found footage from broadcasted media—‘i knew the figures’, pointing to a setting of British media harassment and scrutiny, WOWOWOW conveys amazement and disbelief, faced with the bare and flagrant injustices of the time and place. Vocals are swallowed by the cavernous reverberation, while slow paced stoner rock-like drifting instrumentals amble underneath.

CHUCKLE follows Alpha Maid's debut EP Spy, released via the ever-transforming collective and label CURL, of which Alpha Maid is a member, alongside the founders Coby Sey, Mica Levi and Brother May. Whilst Spy expressed revulsion in the face of creeping surveillance and the increasingly concealed and deceptive nature of power, CHUCKLE embodies the spirit of internal disorientation and realisations, exacerbated by a backdrop of social crises and injustices reaching levels beyond our grasp or comprehension.

Electronic interventions, eclectic instrumentation and found footage intersperse Alpha Maid's trademark sound. Brief interludes reminiscent of Scandinavian metal themes, undistorted but purveying doom—opening MILD WEATHER and closing NEWLY WOKE & THOUGHT PROVOKED—contribute to the creation of an atmosphere of eerie dread. Within that, there is regular respite to be found—NEWLY WOKE & THOUGHT PROVOKED feels light, rural, nearly folk, delivered with clarity of mind and of pace amongst the otherwise smoggy and moody overlying theme of the EP. The title of the track, however points to a familiar context of confusion amongst cosmopolitan and globalised socio-political contagion. NEWLY WOKE & THOUGHT PROVOKED, in harmony with the nature of the whole release, is fresh, melodically simple, optimistic and yet suspended within a murky atmosphere of cataclysm and wonder.
