Originally from Zottegem in Belgium, Steven Petit is widely regarded as a main player in the Belgian scene for his DJ sets, live shows, and productions. Having grown up in a small town, Petit unsurprisingly moved to one of Belgium’s cultural capitals : Ghent, where he created much of what he is known for today.

A singular, rooted sound has amassed a very impressive back catalog with releases on Token, SK-X, Key Vinyl, and many others including his own Border One Records. Sophisticated in design and effective in practice, these records have given Petit a reputation as a sure shot artist to play in clubs. Minimal elements take space in his cuts and are smeared out to ensure tense blends perfect for mixes, explaining why his tracks have been played by some of the world’s greatest artists in the genre and by himself in his new base Brussels.

Perhaps best-loved for his dynamic take on techno in both his productions and his DJ sets — having been involved and around music for nearly 30 years, @DVS1 is an expert in his field, a true veteran of the scene whose roots extend beyond DJing into grassroots raves and event promotion in his native Minneapolis. 

These days, he continues to push his own limits, getting involved in and starting up projects that fuel his love of music, but also his love of the community he was raised in and helped build. His most recent venture, Aslice, is a software-based platform which proposes a fairer music ecoysystem for DJs and promoters is in its early days, but its concept is bringing up questions for both me and Zak. 

For episode 47, we're exploring the value of art, the definition of success, his own personal perceptions of his worth as an artist.

Back to the UK for the latest podcast episode: Manchester-based DJ Yant might be a relative newcomer but his name is starting to do some serious rounds. His full-on bass assaults have garnered attention from techno top brass like Setaoc Mass and Ben Sims, making 2022 a year which might just prove his zero hour. His productions are gaining momentum too, and a freshly launched party series titled Refocus promises to breathe new life into his chosen neck of the woods. For the latter, he himself plays and encourages longer set-times, with the aim of promoting more daring, less obvious track selections and pushing forward his thundering big-room sound. Just a heads up: these burgeoning beats are resonant, sweaty and thrilling; Bassiani Podcast 157 is raw, ferocious techno from this fledgling British heavyweight.

"Francesco Visconti, better known as VSK, is an Italian Techno DJ and producer born in Rome and based in Berlin. He has got familiar to different forms of Techno, his style ranging from a sound usually hard and dark, often with industrial influences, to a very different one, deeper and more mental, both still easily recognizable as coming from the same mind.

He began his education as an audio-engineer and sound-designer in music and especially in television; currently he does this alongside his artistic career. Over the years he has released music on many important labels such as “47”, “Perc Trax”, “Modularz”,”Mord”, “EarToGround”,”Genesa”, “ Planet Rhythm”, also with some great collaborations including Scalameriya, Giorgio Gigli and Conrad Van Orton.

Currently he has been handling the label @crs-recordings."
