Durkle Disco kick off their 10th year in operation with ‘Hawkeye’ - a massive collaboration EP from rising production talents Nothingnice & Hayz, both alumni of the acclaimed 1Forty Project label, who bring the vocal talents of grime stars Riko Dan & Logan along for the ride. Taking equal sonic influence from Leeds based Hayz’s classic grime squarewave synths and Bristolian Nothingnice’s more dubstep inclined leanings, ‘Hawkeye’ sits somewhere in that grey area between the 2 scenes, making it perfect fodder for a label which has often comfortably occupied that same space over the years.

Riko Dan returns to Durkle for the first time since 2019’s UK Funky banger ‘Bushmaster’ on the title track – a stripped back yet weighty riddim driven by a menacing yet hypnotic synth-line and a typically rowdy vocal from the London City Warlord himself – this one is sure to “lick the bullseye just like Hawkeye” as he gets “dark & greeezy” on the track. Leader of the Bristol UK Funky pack DJ Polo steps up for his Durkle debut (under this alias at least…) on remix duties. His dark, minimal and percussive version slows things down to 133bpm, putting the Riko Dan vocal front & centre, in a grimy funky style that fans of the label will be no strangers to.

Rounding the EP off in fine style, ‘Shell Dem’ sees the return of Logan, responsible for ‘Bad’ (alongside Kouslin) - arguably Durkle Disco’s biggest release to date – and one of the most prolific of the newer generation of grime MCs. Another dark and sub-heavy 140bpm banger with a low rolling synth which will sit equally comfortably in grime or dubstep sets, Logan’s energetic yet effortless sounding dancehall influenced vocal complementing the beat perfectly as he comes to “shell dem down”.

Whilst Leeds has had a Grime scene that has been quietly bubbling away for a few years on the MC front, there have been very few 140 producers come through. Hayz was hellbent on changing that since landing on the 1Forty radar and has established that since his label debut with 'Hightop' in September 2019 and the VIP that ensued. His debut EP landed on Rapture 4D's critically acclaimed Plasma Abuse label in 2020, before following that up with what some are naming as a contender for EP of the year alongside 1Forty featured artists NothingNice and Logan, with the London City Warlord Riko Dan on the lead track, which released on Durkle Disco in February 2021.

Six months after the label's last bootleg giveaway, Hayz comes in with his unique take on squarewave influenced Grime taking Danny Weed's infamous Creeper and implementing his own synth work on the iconic melody.

Armour has been out of the music game since his days as a N.A.S.T.Y Crew member, but dipping his toes in and out the water since 2016 has meant whenever he drops a track it usually makes a splash. Releasing just 3 tracks since his infamous ‘Pepper Pot’ release alongside P Jam, which still causes a ruckus in the raves 5 years on, 1Forty thought it was about time to bring him out once more for a legendary link up with Ruff Sqwads Roachee on the feature. No doubt two of the most iconic voices in the scene over the past 20 years jump on an instrumental from somewhat of a toddler in comparison, Hayz, having been established by the label in 2019. That being said an array of famous samples has brought to the table a nostalgic grime instrumental, perfect for Armour and Roachee to supply one of their most authentic Grime records in recent years ‘Link With Dem’.

Armour, healing from East London known for his patois-slinging and good-nature, is greatly respected by the early spitters and DJs in Grime. He was a prominent figure on pirate radio while riding with N.A.S.T.Y crew and featured on some of the most famous sets over the years such as Jammer’s Birthday Bash. Having somewhat of a cameo appearance in the scene now after a ten year stint out the game, he spends life away from music educating the less privileged on how to stay on the straight and narrow, leading by example, following his passion for music by still making time to record and appear on sets in his free time.

Roachee, MC and former member of Roll Deep having joined the collective in late 2004. Roachee is responsible for possibly Roll Deep’s most famous grime record When I’m ‘Ere which has rung out up and down the country since 2005. From 2010 to 2015 a run of features for the likes of Ghetts, Tinchy Stryder Devlin, Rival and Lil Nasty ensued, and even a send for Scorcher, in an attempt to ignite a clash for the highly anticipated return of Lord Of The Mics III. In that time he also joined Prince Rapid after a long time affiliation unofficially with Ruff Sqwad. Some time away from music ensued before a surge of radio appearances commended pre COVID-19 and into 2021 post lockdowns leading to his debut 1Forty release.

Armour Ft Roachee - Link With Dem (Prod. Hayz)

Hayz makes his first double header on the label, the first time an artist has done so since Fork And Knife (ironically on this same release) on 1FGRM004 back in September 2019. With the absence of his typical square wave sounds on the lead production with Armour & Roachee, it wouldn’t be a Hayz appearance without it, so he served up an instrumental to go along with the vocal release this time around.

Behind an intricate layered melody of the manipulated sound design from the Leeds producers typical square wave sound, lies a strong asian influence, paired with his usual style of aggressive hi hats to give it that authentic Grime sound and end result ‘Kyoto’.

Killa P makes his return to the label for the first time in over a year. This one hitting a significant milestone of release number ten for the former Roll Deep MC, five years after the label arm was birthed in 2017 with him featuring on the very first release. Seemingly saving his best work to date to celebrate the occasion, with a hard hitting, drill infused, melodic record that sits somewhere between the realms of Grime and Dubstep. Produced by now, Label Manager - Hayz, after working closely with the label and events for the past four years with multiple releases along the way. This time around joining forces with last year's unearthed gem, Josef.

A world renowned MC and pioneer in the Grime & Dubstep world. Killa P’s acclaimed for his unique patois style and hard lyrics. Killa became known as one of the UK’s prolific MCs while he was a member of one of the UK’s founding grime crews, Roll Deep. His style and flow led to commercial success and earned him a new generation of fans through his 2008 collaboration with The Bug on the seminal track ‘SKENG’. Fast forward a few years to 2016 where he released the biggest track of the year and arguably the last decade with Sir Spyro, Teddy Bruckshot & Lady Chann on Deep Medi. He had his first release with 1Forty in 2017 and has since has gone on to collaborate with the likes of an array of names across the label fluttering around the full umbrella of genres, with Filthy Gears, NothingNice, Fork And Knife, 9TRANE, Kobe JT and Palizé.

Josef has been producing for a few years while he’s been studying at university in Leeds. The young versatile producer from Cheltenham had only self released prior to us picking him up in 2021. His first ever release was alongside Paige Eliza, some of whom may now know for her releases alongside Sammy Virji and more recently Flava D on Hospital Records as she continues to elevate through the underground, whilst also producing and selling beats to some of the UK’s breakthrough Drill & Rap artists. Josef released Shining with us in 2021 followed by the VIP on 5 Years Of 1Forty this Summer making this the third time releasing on 1Forty and his first vocal project on the label.
