Soaring guitars and dreamy, ambient layers intertwine alongside delicate melodies throughout a series of original releases from Muse Material. 

Founded as the debut solo project of Kansas City, Missouri songwriter Daniel Cumberland, Muse Material promises multi-layered outpourings of guitar, drums, synth, bass and keys, with occasional collaborative vocals from singer Jennie Bolton; highlighting consistent versatility, in line with unbreakable threads of creative identity. 

Cumberland’s second musical outlet since the 2014 to 2018 collective ‘Yes, and’, Muse Material showcases a defiant passion for the art-form in a delicately emotive, faultlessly immersive manner. Having gathered the skills for self-recording and editing from a close friend during those early years, the producer and multi-instrumentalist works with precision and spirit combined, allowing the natural intentions of the music to connect with ease. 

Featuring reverb-kissed, ethereal arrangements and breathy, blissfully gentle vocal melodies, singles like ‘Dreaming’ set the mood for arena-style shoe-gaze. Elsewhere, tracks like ‘Paying It Back’ take on the crisp, organic nature of folk-pop for a more intimate, acoustic and live-sounding experience. In every case, the writing is decidedly honest, and fearless in its display of poetry and vulnerability united. 

Inspired by the likes of Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine as much so as Diiv., Muse Material proves distinctive in tone yet aptly contemplative – the ideal name for an act so willingly engaged in the creative process. Whether distortion and weight take the reigns, such as throughout a bold and energising ‘One Last Time’, or calmness and consideration seek to mellow the room and permit the mind to wander, a clear commitment to the moment gifts an incomparable listening journey. 

Often hypnotic, always purposeful – Muse Material leads with an artistic blending of fierceness and sensitivity, delivering the authentic embrace of heartfelt audio escapism to music fans across the board.
