Altiplano, Volor Flex’s effervescent collab with fellow Russian producer and good friend Encode, is yet another dateless - albeit state-of-the-art - immersion into the polyrhythmic, dense, visceral compositions that this prolific artist is constantly fine-tuning somewhere in the steppe of the Ural Mountains.

There’s a lot of synced up emotional comfort and tension happening on both sides of the release, balanced-out, as ever, by artfully crafted elements of structure and style. Among them, the everpresent UK garage signature, the noise-drenched soundscapes, the sharp snares, the skittering beats, the melancholy vocals (especially on Altiplano, which easily competes with You In Me or Fake Love in unforgettableness), plus those entrancing moments of fervor followed by profound relief that Volor is such a master of.

The main track and subsequently the EP were named after the highest and largest plateau in South America, and that’s how exalted and wide-reaching this music should feel. Both inner-city and otherwordly, both London and Syktyvkar, the 7-track, two-sided EP is going deep to get that right, raw vibe. The 12” comes with a wonderfully exciting digital perk, a sweet and soulful bonus track titled Avia.

Natal Zaks is the 22 year old hypertalented Danish wunderkind behind a multitude of monikers and projects that can each be easily classified as state-of-the-art music. Whether he’s composing and singing for the sweet-sounding techno twosome Averos or he’s busy developing the soft, immersive acoustics of his other dyad, Madelin, Natal is deeply preoccupied with sound design and the emotional impact his cutting-edge musical apparatus will have on any listener.

Yet his Aebeloe handle is the only one that truly does justice to his ample taste-range and personality. A modern prodigy in the very classical sense, Aebeloe transpires raw talent layered upon years of exploration, schooling and constant curiosity.

His “Manon” EP should become an instant classic, given the new, elaborate yet super-relatable techno/house meets celestial electronica sound it showcases. OVERVIEW:
Kondaktor, the Athenian producer who made his debut last year at Further
Records, releases music for the sixth Modal Analysis record. Signal EP includes two original tracks Signal #1 and Signal #2 which were created through the manipulation of field recordings, that are structured as a collage of sounds delivering a deep and claustrophobic sensation. On the other side of the record, Sawf and ANFS construct two versions of the tracks taking a more industrial and rhythmic approach to the existing works.

Distant Echoes (Dystopian) @ Trouw 10-05-2014

On an afternoon like this, when it’s sunny and you’re utterly spent from a weekend, it’s easy to fumble over words, spending far too long trying to choose the best way to put something. But sometimes serendipity has an even more poignant way of putting it and well, describing Remarc’s music is very much like the affected sound-bite introduction to Remarc’s FABRICLIVE x Planet Mu Mix says: “Remarc: original junglist badboy sound”. 

For our purpose today, it’s undoubtedly easier to talk about Planet Mu’s involvement in Remarc’s career, considering that the jungle pioneer and respected master of the amen drum break will be appearing in the Mu hosted Room Two on Friday 20th June. But the fact is, they first started working together reissuing Remarc’s earlier material on the Sound Murderer album, so you can’t really even try and avoid it. That said, the first tune of his that a lot of people latched onto and recognised was ‘Ricky’, a track released in 1993 on his own Dollar label…

As you can hear, the template for a cataclysm of such bounding bass lines and scattershot drum programming that personify jungle music was starting to be interpreted by Remarc in a pretty violent way. Not violent because of the perceived aggression or the tortured “RICKY!” screech, it’s more his approach to layering, to cutting and pasting and micro-editing the drum work that becomes so shocking or confrontational. That sense of an aural threat translated into track titles like ‘R.I.P’, ‘Single Finga Killa’, ‘Stick Em Up’ and ‘Sound Murderer’ which was extrapolated by Mu as the perfect phrase to encapsulate a collection of his early music. 

Sharing a lot of the energy and complexity of the Planet Mu roster’s output, Remarc’s brazen and broken brew of beats and breaks found the perfect kinship with the label. Being just as manic and as layered as a lot of the music they're known for, it makes complete sense that the label would call upon Remarc to represent jungle to the fullest and appear on a bill with Luke Vibert, Neil Landstrumm, Ital and Ital Tek a week on Friday.

Dutch techno legend Steve Rachmad, aka STERAC, joins the Klockworks ranks with an outstanding four-track EP, set for release on June 23rd.

For almost 20 years, Steve Rachmad has concentrated on the kind of melodic, grooved club tracks that DJs love, releasing on labels such as Music Man, Rejected, Tresor and Wolfskuil. Over this time, he has been responsible for some of techno's true classics, 'Astronotes', 'Asphynx' and 'Thera' to name a few. The particular tracks signed by Ben Klock for KW12 draw from a number of the styles STERAC has explored over the years, and each add something else of their own.

Opener 'Track 2' is punchy and brilliantly executed, setting the tone for the rest of the EP. It centres around coarse mid-range notes that develop throughout and bind the warm lows with high-frequency hiss.

Rachmad uses a similar sound palette on 'Rotary', a track that featured prominently in Ben Klock's Fabric mix CD. This time he opts for a more spacious mix, allowing the unpredictable texture of hardware to create a retro bassline sure to get any crowd moving.

'In Circles' is deep and moody, but with uplifting strings and a Detroit feel. The strings give 'In Circles' the 3-dimensional, sci-fi quality that often marks out techno of the highest order, they are bouncy but reserved in their arrangement, keeping the track's energy in perfect balance.

'Scheepsrecht' ends this release in style. The producer weaves the core elements with canny arrangement and an endlessly-dynamic mix, resulting in hypnotic, hard-as-nails club gear.

Bringing old-school production values up-to-date and keeping that unmistakable Dutch flavour, STERAC shows another side to the Klockworks sound. KW12 is sure to be on constant rotation amongst techno DJs of all styles, and will prove itself to be yet another essential Rachmad record.

After Inigo's deeper & slower excursions on his 2 previous ep's 'The Shard' & 'The Darkest Valentine', he now returns to his dirtier, more energetic tricks. As usual, I've been sitting on these tracks a while and both of them have been thoroughly road tested. 'Revenge' can rip up any dance floor peak time, while 'Scatter' explores IDM territory, almost in AFX fashion.

The b-side holds an interpretation of 'Revenge' by the infamous Blawan (R&S / Hessle Audio / Clone). I've been a fan of his music since the beginning, so when I heard Blawan drop a classic Inigo track on his podcast for Mary Anne Hobbs (ex-BBC Radio 1) radio show, it just felt like the right moment to ask him. Being a fan of Inigo & Token for some time, he immediately agreed and 2 weeks later the first draft arrived at the Token office. The result is a fierce techno work-out that will blow you off your socks.

I know we don't release a heck of a lot Token singles. But you know when we do, they hit you right between the ears.

This track pretty much incorporates a combination of music styles that I've acquired growing up starting off by adding samples of my first love, heavy metal and then transitioning on to electronic music. I remember watching the Christian Woman video as a kid and being totally creeped out by it but at the same time curious and infatuated with the sounds and the girl lol not having any idea that my passion would eventually be djing and creating muzzikk.&#13;

This is not your typical music you hear now a days which makes it that much more unique to me. &#13;

This version of Slowdance is so amazing that i had to make my rendition of it so that it can be playable at the club since the original doesn't have a kick, hats and so forth. I apologize for the distorted sound during the vocals as it's embedded in the sample and I did my best to get rid of.  I hope you enjoy it as much as i did working on it and hats off to Matthew Dear for such amazing creativity and uniqueness.
