Zaya (The Stro Elliot RMX)

I was born and raised in “Detroit Mi.”  I was exposed to music at a very early age. I started playing my first instrument in grade school which was the trumpet and coronet. While exploring Horns, my classmates and I would switch instruments and play them such as trombone, sax etc. I grew upin church and in the late 70’s my Mom moved her membership along with her children to St.James Missionary Baptist church were the late Charles Nicks Jr was the pastor. This is were my love for music took off. There were so many talented people around me at St.James such as Jimmy Dowel, Andre Woods, Daryl Houston, Stephanie Cofield and Ted Thomas. ALL of these people are extremely talented and taught me a lot as I picked up my love for the drums. I played the drums in church into my late high school years and took drum lessons during that time to perfect my craft. I soon drew a little bored with being a drummer so I movedmy interests to the piano were I took lessons from Daryl Houston. The piano lessons didn’t last long because I could already play, but I could only play certain songs. In 1989 after graduating, the art of music took a backseat to a lot of things but the Love for music as an musician and collector was still there. Through out high school I had several friends that had Dj equipment. I would play around with there stuffbut I never took being a “Dj” that serious because hell I was a musician. In the early 90’swhile in college, one of my high friends took up Djing while away at college and when he would come home I’d go by his house and we would literally RUIN records cutting and scratching. Mind you now the first guy to ever show me how to scratch was my brother in law Phillip Cuttino, but it was years later before I actually tried it. In the mid 90’s after moving to the St.louis metropolitan area I met Loyd Shobe and George Hayes aka Dino Gene and G Rock. These two guys were two of the best Dj’s the eastside had to offer. After hanging out several years with these guysI was presented with an opportunity to play music for a crowd. The response to my music selection was PRICELESS!! And I literally haven’t looked back since.
