In November of 2020, Amsterdam-based label Ambientologist released a compilation titled Sustain Series, Vol. 1. It’s an impressive gathering of ambient artists and their music, showcasing some of the most delicate sides of the genre. The proceeds from the release have been donated to Conservation International, promoting sustainability across the world. I reached out to the label in hopes to broadcast this selection to a wider audience on my platform, and I am happy that they obliged to share this 90-minute continuous mix by Lauge with followers of my podcast. Take a look at the tracklisting and you will know why I’m excited to spend today in the company of my favourite ambient artists, as well as a few newly introduced names to my ears. As of this writing, the label is preparing a follow-up volume, with artists such as Halftribe, The Green Kingdom, Pepo Galán, awakened souls, Dylan Henner and Sven Laux, confirmed for the roster. I’m keeping my eye on the Ambientologist’s Bandcamp for the available pre-order, and so should you!

As with all of my ‘Reflection’ year-end mixes, I start with a long list of albums I have enjoyed over the year. Often hundreds. Through the process of putting a mix together that flows well, the songs are whittled down and selected from each album. This means many of my favorite tracks are often omitted in the process (even favorite tracks from a favorite album). But as I say every year, this isn’t a definitive ‘best-of’ list, but an organic selection of some of my favorite music from the year in a listenable format - it’s the most enjoyable way for me to boil down music I’ve loved from the year using these self-imposed restrictions. Use the mix to jump off and explore more from each artist and album.

2009-2019 : Space mixes # 1 to 9. In 2009, I started mixing live ambient sets at my radio show, each saturday afternoon in Québec city. I don't think more than 6 people were listening (including my GF at that time) but later on, in 2011, I published the first one on Soundcloud : Space III. Now after 30 000 plays of them, I decided to make a best of mixing the best of them. The result is a spaced-out mix that might seriously soothe your mind & body. Pillow not included but highly recommended ! Space 10 : over 4 h 00 of ambient, drones and flying soundscapes in Space!

Emika Elena is a Berlin based techno DJ / producer from Tokyo and founder of the record label, Human Lessons.
Music has always been a huge part of her life, ever since she started playing piano in her family home at the age of 4, but it was the discovery of techno in her early teens that led her to become a DJ.
Having played one of the top venues such as Contact, VENT, eleven, UNIT, Origami, Air, Dommune and so on.
In 2016, she officially launched Human Lessons and released a solo EP titled ”Delicate Details”. 
One year later, she collaborated with Ryogo Yamamori, on a new EP ”Confusion” which was a limited edition vinyl release on her label. 
Gathering attention by being played by big name producers and radio programs such as BBC Radio1 and Deep Space Helsinki, she was significant success in first European tour in 2018. 
Her trademark sound is all about hypnotic darkness, influenced by soundtracks and cinematic scores.

Emika Elena 는 도쿄 태생의 베를린 기반의 테크노 DJ / 프로듀서이자 레이블 Human Lessons 의 창립자이다.
음악은 언제나 그녀가 4살때 피아노를 연주하기 시작했을 때부터 그녀의 삶의 가장 큰 한 부분이었다. 하지만 그녀는 십대 초반에 테크노를 접했고 이 경험은 그녀를 DJ 의 길로 이끌었다.
Contact, VENT, eleven, UNIT, Origami, Air, Dommune 등의 베뉴들에서 플레이 해온 그녀는, 2016년에 Human Lessons 를 런칭한 후 “ Delicate Details” EP 를 발매했다.
1년 후, 그녀는 Ryogo Yamamori 와 협업한 ”Confusion” EP 를 한정판 바이닐로 발매했다.
그녀는 여러 라디오 프로그램에서의 플레잉으로 주목을 받으며, 2018년 유럽 투어를 성공적으로 마쳤다.
