'Empyrean' is the third in a trilogy of albums on Dronarivm. Whereas Expanses might be evocative of vast landscapes and Harbor the feeling of floating on gentle waves, Empyrean seeks to transcend the Earthly realm altogether. The album differs slightly from the previous two in that piano plays a larger role in many of the tracks, bringing an ethereal modern classical feel to the Green Kingdom sound at times. Although the mood ranges from pensive to lighter pieces, the intent was to provide soundscapes that elevate one's midstate to the clouds above.

THE GREEN KINGDOM - With You

Musicians David Poltrock and Adriaan de Roover (whom you may know as Oaktree) team up with Aïda Gabriëls (direction), Pieter Desmet (dance), Wim Piqueur (video), Jan Van Lindt (lighting design), Yoran Cambier (sound) for an all-immersive performance in quadraphonic sound, scheduled to premiere in Belgium in the next couple of weeks (see more details and live dates). Meanwhile, the score for this “sound choreography” is released as an album under the same name, VACUUM. The recording features binaural mixes which are designed to be experienced in headphones, capturing spatial positioning of sound to convey a three-dimensional “spherical” space. That’s all very rich and technically exciting and all, but what about the music? You know I wouldn’t be featuring something here if I didn’t connect with the piece. Hence my decision to host an exclusive premiere of “44,2 km” – a fourth track on the album, which I really enjoyed [in headphones]. On the track, advanced digital sound processing deconstructs the sounds of my favourite acoustic instrument and then places it back in the centre of a resonant space. The bass bottoms out beneath the piano, while sliced-up tiny sonic grains float up and flicker in a chamber of a hollow void to paint unexpected delays and reverbs in a space without time. A mesmerising sonic scape, one which, I imagine, could only be better if experienced during the performance mentioned above.

Only yesterday I have premiered a video from the new XXIM Records signing, Ed Carlsen, and today I am back with another exclusive premiere via XXIM once again, this time from Stimming x Lambert, a duo which should be already familiar to you from their individual solo projects. But let's quickly recap the past of these two. Stimming is an alias of a Hamburg-based producer Martin Stimming, who's known for his uplifting and upbeat tracks via the Diynamic Music imprint, and whom I have placed right alongside my favourite works from the likes of Gidge, Christian Löffler, and Aparde. Lambert, who still hides behind the mysterious mask, has not escaped my ears either, as I have praised his solo-piano whimsical tracks (and live performances) via releases on Dauw and Mercury KX for numerous years (and plenty of Best Of list mentions) as well as this slightly revealing and grand In the studio with Lambert feature [in which we first glimpse that the duo are friends]. So yes, I'm a fan! Thus, you can imagine my enthusiasm for getting these two guys together to work on a record, combining aesthetics of each into one. The result is above expectations, with Lambert's knack for harmonically rich, slightly jazzy, percussive melodies, and Stimming's synthesized explorations with punctuated beat and bass. More on the whole release later, but right now let's tease you with "Glühwürmchen," which, as my trustworthy Google translate informs me, means "firefly" [or literally "glow-worm" in German].

TRACK PREMIERE : Stimming x Lambert - Glühwürmchen

In January 1921, some 100 hundred years ago, the renowned writer D.H. Lawrence set sail for Sardinia, joined by his wife Frieda. He produced a critically acclaimed travel novel called Sea and Sardinia, reflecting his observations as he traveled. His creative use of language and expression adds colour to his reflections. To mark the centenary of the journey, film director Daniele Marzeddu and his crew returned, to retrace these steps.

After a year of working on this project, Return to Sea and Sardinia now sees the light of day and will be presented to the public in a series of screenings or digital viewings. The film has been produced and Organised by The Visual Guys, with the support of the D.H. Lawrence Society of Great Britain and features Daniele’s vivid imagery. The current state of modern Sardinia and its neighbouring island Sicily is laid out as a documentary film and our very own Glåsbird has produced an original soundtrack to accompany the visuals, and local accounts provided by the islands’ inhabitants.

Glåsbird has produced several geographic based sound interpretations since beginning their mysterious project in 2018. They describe this soundtrack as a ‘vacation’ from the on-going ‘A Sonic Expedition’ series, yet it has been approached in a similar way to this musician’s work: the cycle of inspiration, research and more inspiration. Daniele gave the artist free-reign to sketch out stories from afar, into these sound-postcards. We are delighted to be able to present the Original Soundtrack for Return To Sea and Sardinia, in an edition of 300 CDrs, featuring a 32 page book of photographic stills and captions, to give a flavour of the film.

Sometimes it’s not enough to pick out the right chords, to write out the melody, sprinkle the notes. Sometimes it’s not enough to play the right instruments, hire the orchestra, space out the mics. Take a listen to some “fake Spotify artists” and you’ll know that it’s true. It seems that these copycats have all the ingredients, but the dish still tastes lukewarm. That is because their course is lacking the true soul of a master which they’ve poured into each piece. That’s the ingredient not listed on the recipe. Now take a listen to this gorgeous track by a composer and visual art collective from LA named Sanctuary. It seems, oh, so simple, straightforward, and plain, and yet, when you play it, it beams with emotion, dynamically charged and expanded within. It’s ripe with that ‘something’ that Jóhann possessed – and that is the best compliment I can give to any new recommendation. “Crystalline, emotional orchestral and choral elements blend with intriguing foley. Sometimes intimate, sometimes epic, Sanctuary caresses dark themes with intense visual vignettes and haunting, widescreen music, challenging the audience to join them on an inward journey.” Released on Safari Riot, the collective offers up a debut of two EPs, both volumes out tomorrow, December 3rd. This is incredibly beautiful and cinematic, and I can’t wait for you to enjoy the rest of the pieces. But for now, here’s my favorite, titled “In Absolute.”

"In my mind ‘In Absolute’ is a very visual piece. Much like a close-up shot in a film, slowly zooming out to reveal an intricate scene, ‘In Absolute’ embodies the same feeling. A simple idea ever-expanding. It would not have been possible without the brilliant string and woodwind ensembles we recorded in Iceland last summer."

Imaginary Tales is the first collaboration between Wil Bolton and Francis Gri. Recorded last year between London and Milan, this album signals a wonderful start to 2022 for Krysalisound. 

These six tracks are the perfect sum of the individual sounds of Wil and Francis and their natural propensity to delicate and intimate sonorities. They are rendered with a broad sonic palette that includes modular synth, acoustic and electric guitars, sansula, electric piano, mellotron, found sounds and field recordings. 

Imaginary Tales is an exploration of dreaming landscapes and lonely moments. Each song could be a story, a story without words. Each title is just the beginning of where your imagination may take you if you just close your eyes.

Don't let the cover art or the title of this track deceive you! Yes, there is a depiction of a samurai, and yes, Koi are the Japanese amur carp that swim in decorative outdoor ponds and water gardens, and yes, now that I'm thinking about it, there are elements of elegance and movement in the music that may transcend the title and the album art, but I promise you it's not a drill'n'bass track with some glitched out bass drops. The track I am premiering for you today is actually taken from Matt Emery's second instalment in the "Spotlight Series" for which, this time, he focuses on harp. For this series of EPs, Emery showcases the virtuosity, tonal range, and timbre-rich textures of each instrument. His previous entry for Injazero showcased the cello (see this track preview of "Anxiety Mist"), and featured a samurai, once again, preparing for the battle. And although the theme of a battle is still present on this EP, it is now enveloped with water. Hence the koi in the pond. Specifically composed by Emery for this stringed instrument, the piece is performed by the London-based Olivia Jageurs, who has recently won the Royal Philharmonic Trailblazer Award. Oh, and besides being a celebrated composer, Emery also produces an amazing Contemplative Podcast hosted in conjunction with Contemplative Classical and Headphone Commute!

To be released on the conceptual collaborative-minded, boutique label Thesis, is the new joint project by the two neo-classical and contemporary ambient acts of CEEYS, and CONSTANT PRESENCE, the new outing between Peter Broderick [Erased Tapes, Type, Efterklang], and Daniel O’Sullivan [Grumbling Fur, Guapo]. Released during Q3AMBIENTFEST, a sterling three-day event of avant-garde, experimental pop and ambient-classical taking place in Potsdam, Germany during the first weekend of April, the limited edition 10inch EP, enriched with Zen ideology, comes replete with bespoke artwork, exclusive handmade packaging, and laser-etched designs.



CONSTANT PRESENCE, the new mesmerizing project by soundsmith Peter Broderick and multidimensional songwriter Daniel O'Sullivan, has been sporadically performing across the globe since coming together in 2019. This new, recorded body of music will see their release alongside the cello-piano brothers, Sebastian and Daniel Selke aka. CEEYS, who also happen to be the founding partners and curators behind Q3AMBIENTFEST. Looking to celebrate the notions of duology, unity and harmony, the EP features two ambient tracks that are enshrined in the teachings Shunryu Suzuki, a twentieth-century Soto Zen monk who gained popularity in the Western world for his teaching of Zen Buddhism outside of Japan. This nature of dualism becomes ever more pertinent when factoring in the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the bringing together of new and old worlds, and the pairing of Potsdam and Berlin. The East-West divide is something also very admissible to the works of the Selke brother’s, who imbue various elements of their East German upbringing within their recordings and philosophical approaches. Now celebrating its fourth year, Q3AMBIENTFEST is CEEYS’ labour of love, and it was a great honor, love and respect that they can now release something together with the multitalented and accomplished minds that are Broderick and O'Sullivan.



The Thesis Project, now on its 17th release, has set about on uniting two different artists together to create limited, custom designed bodies of music. Uniquely crafted and designed by Gregory Euclide, each 10” jacket for THESIS 17 consists of laser cut-etched designs portraying brutalist architecture and atomic structures glued on top of airbrushed designs that use the homemade Black Walnut Ink that Euclide made himself from the trees on his property, then letter pressed with the THESIS logo. Each record is hand numbered in an edition of 300, and will be made available on the second day Q3AMBIENTFEST, where it is also possible to get the record hand-signed by the artists. During the second day of the festival CONSTANT PRESENCE will share the stage with CEEYS, for a unique performance that juxtaposes the notion of duality and harmony yet further, in a show that will combine professionalism with liveliness, method with lightness of touch, and efficacy with flexibility.
