Q: Thanks for your contribution to our mix series, how did you prepare for this mix, and how would you describe the eventual result?

A: Hey guys, thank you for inviting us, it’s a pleasure to be a part of your lovely series :)
After trying to prepare a lot for mixes over the time, we realized we don’t really work that way and where never satisfied with the result. So nowadays we discovered a ritual that works out really well with us. For this mix we looked into our collection for new digs that could suit the podcast vibe, grabbed a cold beer, lighted up a cosmic incense and just let the vibe flow ^^

Q: Is there a record in the mix that you associate with a special story?

A: We don’t really have a record in this mix that we assosiate with a special story, but we now can say that the whole mix will forever give us a very nostalgic feeling since we had the opportunity to play many of the records played in the mix at a festival in the Ukrainian mountains, at the self care & tea floor. It was the fist time for us to play sitting down, and it was a very special experience <3

Q: Do you have a special digging process and/or what kind of things arouse your interest in a Record?

A: I wouldn’t say that we have any kind of special digging process. We just love to go digging, so we try to go to flea markets and record shops as much as we can. Always having eyes wide open for the unexpected 

Q: One record you will never let go, and one that doesn’t want to leave your wantlist?

A: It’s not actually a record, but a cd, it was unfortunately
never sold on Discogs :( 
It’s from a Brazilian band called Karnak, the ep is “Comendo uva na chuva(faraó mix)” which translates as “eating grapes in the rain”
I’ve even tried contacting the band and it’s manager without any success, so if anyone out there has this file, it would make me extremely happy!

Q: Music bonds people together. Any local heros/crews/parties/shops/... you would like to shout out? 

A: Big s/o to Deniz Arslan from small talk who is making one of our favorite parties in Berlin! Also to our brother Gilberto from isle of wax, to Dave & Mark + the whole Fandango crew who kindly invited us to play in their amazing festival in Ukraine. And one big S/O to a not so local hero, our fabulous sister, queen from the ctw podcast, Mimi <3

We’re so excited to share issue 19 of Stan Radio, this time from the mighty Basso of Hamburg! @growingbinrecords

We’re huge fans of his Growing Bin record store, label and Youtube channel, which he runs from Hamburg. It’s a real honour to have him contribute to our podcast series! A few words about the mix:

“Back in the mid 90s when my collection of soul records grew a little bigger I started recording tapes with the more mellow jams I found (on the albums I bought for the funky tracks). I called these “Slow Jams”. I can’t really recall if I recorded these for girls or just for my own pleasure. On my quest for a box of minidiscs last year I found some of these tapes (Vol. 1 - Vol. 4) and I badly wanted to make one in this vein again. Last week I gave it a try. It’s not the old school “Slow Jams” vibe I wanted to create. But after a few listens I realised I like the new Slow Jams vibe even better. Heartwarming / heartbreaking jams served with a pinch of salt… anybody?”
