Background History
Tony Horlor and Terry Lawson have shared a passion for music for over 40 years. Their musical journey together began in the early 1980’s when they became friends and started playing music together. Things got a bit more serious when Terry purchased a TEAC 144 Four Track Porta Studio. They spent hours and hours in his basement, recording track after track creating wonderful music with their friends. This carried on for a number of years and then Tony moved away from Edmonton bringing their musical collaboration in the studio to an end. The spark was reignited a few years later when Tony purchased his own multi track-recording machine, which was compatible with Terry’s TEAC 144. They were able to mail back and forth between Edmonton and Victoria, a master cassette tape for a song, adding their own individual tracks until the song was completed. So even though they were separated by a long distance, they were once again creating music. Then technology kicked in and using a program called GarageBand (which has been upgraded to Logic Pro 11), they were able to share files virtually to create their music. They then began asking their musical friends from all over Western Canada to add their passion and talent for music to their recordings. Terry and Tony were once again recording music with their friends after so many years. They call this group of musicians The Garage Band Cooperative. Individual tracks are recorded in the studios of Rick Waugh, Richard Steinberg, Stan Muirhead, Jamesy The True, Tony Horlor and Terry Lawson. These files are then shared virtually to either Rick’s, Richard's, Jamey The True’s, Tony’s or Terry's studios, where the tracks are assembled, mixed and mastered.
