Since forming in 2011, Mobina Galore, the Winnipeg punk duo of Jenna Priestner (guitar/vocals) and drummer Marcia Hanson (drums/vocals) have cut their teeth on an approach to music that operates without the fluff. 
Now three albums into their decade-long career their newest single, “Whiskey Water”, released April 2022 showcases a fresh sound while continuing the band’s signature of crafting unapologetically heavy, wildly dynamic songs that explore life’s peaks and valleys with discerning emotional clarity. 

In 2021 Mobina Galore released Waiting, a two-track EP showcasing the band's acoustic side that reflects on the two years they spent off the road and home in Winnipeg. 

Their debut album Cities Away (2014) packed the complexities of life transitions into a smart, scrappy container of straightforward power punk. Their stripped-back sophomore effort Feeling Disconnected (2017) dealt with feelings of isolation and was recorded with just drums and guitar to channel the raw intensity of their live shows and their latest Don’t Worry (2019) pays homage to a range of generation genres such as 90s west coast skate punk and first-wave mid-west emo. 

Jenna and Marcia go straight for the jugular through lyrics that shuffle through a wide range of emotions—confusion and indignation; exasperation and finally, forgiveness— that speak to the blunt reality of universal experiences.  

As part of the most recent generation of artists invested in retrofitting the genre with new narratives, Mobina Galore have weaponized their outsider attitude into explosive punk that demands attention on the band’s own terms. By building a catalogue of expertly executed songs, they’re challenging the industry’s entrenched shortcomings by flipping the stereotype of “overly emotional women” on its head and turning it into their battle-axe.

They were nominated Rock Artist of the Year in 2017 and 2020 at the Western Canadian Music Awards and have toured with Against Me!, Propagandhi, Pennywise and Iron Chic including shows with PUP, Petrol Girls and Spanish Love Songs.

Indie alt-pop songstress French Press, aka singer-songwriter Chantel Emond, presents her debut LP Youthful Trouble. Armed with catchy hooks, striking vocals, and a driving rhythm section, this bilingual Winnipeg-based artist channels 90s alternative, and indie-rock vibes while exploring themes of repression, rebellion, and empowerment.


Youthful Trouble captures an era of trial and resilience and is a dynamic exploration into self-doubt, a story all too familiar with 20-somethings. “It’s restless pop echoing the vibrations of your youth,” explains Emond. “There’s a vibe about the record; it’s hurt, but tough. You’re pushing up against a wall and trying to make something of yourself.”

“Plato’s Cave”, the first single, opens the record with an explosive sing-along hook, and was written after a summer spent listening to Best Coast, and Wavves. “It’s upbeat, catchy and carelessly aware,“ Emond explains. The accompanying music video for “Plato’s Cave”, both vibrant and psychedelic, was directed by Montreal-based videographer Mylène Simard (The Luyas, Thus Owls).

The album was written between shows at Thai and Moroccan hotels, where Emond performed in cover bands after she earned her Bachelor of Music Degree from Humber College in Toronto.Youthful Trouble was engineered and produced in Winnipeg by up-and-coming indie tastemakers William Grierson and Arthur Antony at Collector Studio. It was mixed by J. Riley Hill of Mortfell Recording.

Career highlights include residencies at the Banff Centre, and the Manitoba Arts Council Deep Bay Residency in 2014, and a five-week European tour (Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Czech Republic) in support of singer-songwriter Matt Epp in 2015.
