TWINS is the paranoid outsider-pop project of Atlanta-based producer Matt Weiner. Having spent the better part of a decade reveling in a mutant murk that intersects seductive synth-pop with Featureless Ghost and grotesque industrial-dance grooves in his own right as TWINS on LPs issued by Ruralfaune and Clan Destine, Weiner has more than proved his sincerely sinister and auspiciously artful finesse of synth-based music. Operating from his home studio, arrayed with various tools of the trade, Weiner culls his subtle scourges of sound with an unending sense of bold exploration, processing tracks of rhythmic, aural catharsis.

Now returning with the Love Is A Luxury 12-inch, a two-track EP co-released by Weiner's own CGI and Geographic North, TWINS ventures deep into the collected unconscious of our singular broken heart. Elegantly expansive and densely fluid, each track a fragmented careen of erotic house music. With more than an eye on the dancefloor and an ear for hypnotic luster, A-side "Love Runs Deep" hosts dubby house perfectly suited for Basic Channel's low-end minimalism. B-side "The Empty Deep" conveys the desolate counterpoint, enchanting in its sullen hysteria.

Weiner's dubby explorations of an exposed vulnerability manifest in the vinyl itself, containing and exposing both tracks with complete transparency, baring themselves on clear crimson wax.

A meditative, spacey journey (part 4)

If you heard our top 100 2015, you probably remember Liem's "If Only I Could", a feel-good deep house anthem released via the German label Lehult as part of a split release with Lucky Charmz. Early February, Lehult is turning up the heat with another big EP, this time by a young Hamburg based producer who goes by the name of Eddie Ness and already made an appearance on the imprint last year. The four tracker is entitled "Afro" and includes three original tracks, "Ombré" premiered here, "Afro" and "Menjou" as well as a Borrowed Identity remix of "Ombré". Like most Lehult records, it's quality, and it's probably going to end up with silly prices on Discogs, so you'd better not sleep on this one!

After two hugely successful outings on Distant Hawaii, Hidden Spheres cruises into Lobster Theremin waters with four sun soaked and heart meltingly infectious slices of his trademark soothing and late night house. 

EP opener ‘It Ain’t Easy’ sets the mood in a deeply meditative style. Rolling and natural drum patterns intertwine with playful melodies and soothing vocals, slowly shifting the sand across the beach as the sun slides over the horizon.

‘IshOnSax’ takes its lead from the windy city, a love story to 90s Chicago house, featuring some of the most contagious saxophone ever laid to wax courtesy of Ishmael. As the evening settles in and the office lights grow dim, the neon and intrigue of the night take hold.

The B-side kicks into gear with ‘The Feels’ an understated and raw house number that wears its heart on its chest. As a new dawn breaks the urgency of life stirs once again, sound-tracked by a never-ending rollercoaster of emotion that blankets the earth. 

Closing out the release is ‘It’s Gonna Last’ a melting pot of swirling sounds, field recordings and playful drum programming. A street performer takes their final bow as hoards of busy humans hurry to their next meeting spot.

Meet French native but London based producer Valentin Lafont who has delivered a mood enhancing B-side flip to the latest BONN Dance Ideas EP. ‘Low Tide’ is a gentle and floaty trip to outerspace with delicate keys and calming percussion. Take You There was Inspired by a recent trip to London for Andy Buchan, who spent most of his time south of the river Thames in Peckham. Soaking up the areas community spirit and history in jazz it’s a hungover Sunday kinda track. You’ve left half your brain cells in that club last night and all you want to do is laze around and sit in the backyard pumping some paradise vibes. Maybe a cheeky cocktail to beat the hangover as these Long soothing trumpet lines and winding synth parts work magic on your head. Andy Buchan Now based in Leeds has had quite the career with praise from Mixmag, Hype aswell as writing for DJ Mag Middle east.
