Just listened to this from beginning to end. And wow, talk about being transported to an amazing music time period. I also made tons of NEW-to-me song discoveries. My favorites being Taka Boom Red Hot and Never Gonna Be The Same by Ruth Waters.

Just when I thought it was safe to go back to the disco, this... I love Roy, and thank you so much Marsha and Sound Metaphors for teaching us there is so much more, and why the axial rotation of the Earth shifted to Cherry Grove on certain Saturdays.

Oh, Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood. I was very fortunate to be a part of this extraordinary musical period as a dancer in the dance. It is sincerely heartwarming to see the comments filled with praise for Roy - he deserves them all, and not just because I'm a hardcore fanboy. These musical posts have brought wonderful, fun times from my youth back to me in technicolor - I am so very grateful. I've got the next dance with YOU!

“Homecoming” is another of the few nights that Roy named. Recorded on the 28th of July at the Ice Palace Disco in Cherry Grove, it commemorates Roy's return to his Fire Island DJ booth after an unfortunate accident landed Roy in the hospital the night before the iconic Beach '79 party in the Pines, which he was scheduled to share the DJing responsibilities for with Howard Merritt and Jim Burgess. I offer this musical journey as a companion to Episode 10 of my The Heartbeat Of The Dance Floor podcast as we delve into this story and many others with a very special panel assembled to Remember Roy Thode on the 40th anniversary of his passing, May 21st 1982.
