Musically fearless with relentlessly addictive choruses, She Hates Me… wants to change the landscape of the world. 

With Detroit-bred She Hates Me…, standard chord progressions go out the window for a sonic stew of dance-pop, rock, metal and industrial to create edgy pop music that’s intense and important. It equally wants listeners to dance their asses off or break everything around them.

“When I was growing up, I listened to a lot of Motown and then gravitated toward all shades of rock,” says Aleksandr, the visionary behind the act. “I attribute my taste for melody to The Beatles.”

His tastes evolved to straight-up rock and metal, but he came out the other side as an architect of edgy pop by opening his ears to Royal Blood, Lady Gaga, Phantogram, Nothing but Thieves and K. Flay.

She Hates Me… is an amalgamation of those artists with a tinge of Nine Inch Nails to blend everything Aleksandr loves about music. Sloane’s ethereal vocals open up the tracks, creating a strong musical marriage to Aleksandr’s vocals/lyrics. He eschews “industry rules” and plays most of the instruments himself. Collabs pop up, with guitarist Gary Pittel’s David Gilmore-esque solo taking a prominent role as the perfect accompaniment to the blues-tinged tearjerker “I Was Wrong.” Session drummer Jason Hartless provided the backbeat for the same track. 

She Hates Me … collaborated with producer Kevin Sharpe (Fall Out Boy, Royal Blood, Machine Gun Kelly, Big Sean), who helped shape Aleksandr’s vision and mad scientist approach to music. 

“He would take a tuba sample and run it through a guitar amp,” Kevin says. “It seems insane with that combination, but it sounds cool.”

“Just Go!!!” blends ’80s new wave akin to Duran Duran with intense industrial sounds and a straight-to-the-bank chorus listeners will be singing for days. 

“Trendsweater” is a super infectious dancey pop song that takes a swipe at the genre. 

“‘Trendsweater’ is a term I coined because I know so many people like that,” Aleksandr says. “They’re not cool enough to decide what they like and don’t like. They await the next trend. For example, I’m always digging new music, and I try to show it to people. They hesitate, but two months later, it’s blowing up radio and it’s their favorite band. I guess that’s what separates the casual listener from people who really take music to heart.”

“Unique Fashion” is abstract, but it works in a pop-channeled, digestible format that could rock dance floors from Detroit to London. It’s sexy and swampy with a Muse-like chorus. 

“I feel there’s such a broad scope of people who could latch onto that song,” Aleksandr reflects. “It’s about empowerment. I’m encouraging anyone to shamelessly be themselves.”
