Quadrant Soundscape presents In Focus 008

The 8th instalment of our In:Focus Series goes back to where it all began. The Originators, the start of the sound we all love - Its Mark & Moritz, it's Basic Channel. 

There’s not a lot we can write that hasn’t already been written about this legendary duo and record label. Its quite hard to fathom how much innovation and quality came out of Berlin in such a small space of time, but over the course of 2/3 years Mark and Moritz invented a genre and wrote there names into the history books.   

What we have presented here isn’t a complete body of their work but it covers the majority of their output , with most of the ‘Big Hitters’ featured. We Chose to focus specifically on the releases as Basic Channel / Cyrus / Quadrant, however there is much more to explore, with their output as Maurizio, Rhythm&Sound, Round One - Five. 

Many have tried imitating, none have succeeded. This is Basic Channel

The magnificent Brainstormer returns to Omni Music with 5 more deep breakbeat cuts. The title track starts the EP with wistful piano and chopped breaks that spring to life with energetic bass and floating strings. Voyager continues with the tight break work as sprinkles of chords and synths gradually build to a momentous breakdown. Grafix changes the mood with a rolling beat and oldskool bass stabs face off with chord stabs and uplifting strings and piano. Fragments keeps the uplifting feelings as chopped breakbeats and melodics swirl around a rolling amen that propels the track deeper into musical bliss. The downtempo Echoes finishes this excellent new EP with oldskool breaks and dub interspersed with rapturous synths, a perfect end to this new collage of sounds.
