No matter where the winds may blow, what storms may come or what pirates will do, the Transatlantyk ship is still sailing. Navigated for the last three years by Zambon out of Berlin, ultimately avoiding the shallow waters of the generic and constantly patrolling the seas in search of exciting sounds. After all that sailing the label just had to replenish its ranks with some fresh faces - those still capable of voyaging into the unknown. Joining the crew is a young gun TAMTEN, who by day serves as a vinyl pusher in Warsaw's finest Side One record store. What he does by night is not the matter of this short text, but we are sure he does a lot of it. Hence his love for all things distant - from subaquatic pads and floating riffs, to new-age-y siren voices, otherworldly effects and percussion drenched in reverb. There is a lot of similarly distant, sun-bleached material on this five tracker, full of a druggy and hippy Balearic feel. Beautiful ambient jam 'Przebudzenie' is the stand out track, but 'Znaki Czasu' is equally as good with its simple, yet memorable melody, reminding of dawns and sunsets on some God forsaken beach. Sultry deepness of 'Nieznajoma' is followed by enchanting digital exotica of 'Wyrocznia' and wavey trip-hop cut 'Po Burzy'. Overall its one of the strongest EPs that Transatlantyk managed to co-opt into its growing catalogue. Definitely one for the dreamers.

Trzy lata po „III” kIRk wraca z nowym longplayem. „Ich dzikie serca” to koncept-album z wyrazistą dramaturgią, zwrotami akcji i mocnym finałem. „Ich dzikie serca” to historia o śmiałkach, którzy wyruszyli odkrywać nieznane. Opowiada o ich zmaganiach z niezbadaną przestrzenią, o lęku i podnieceniu, które odczuwali będąc milion lat świetlnych od domu, o przemianie, której doświadczyli w obliczu spotkania z obcym. To płyta o głodzie poznania, przekraczaniu granic i szaleńczej wręcz odwadze, a zatem – o człowieczeństwie po prostu. „Ich dzikie serca” stanowi kolejny etap poszukiwań zespołu zapoczątkowanych w zeszłym roku siedmiocalowym wydawnictwem „Za ostatni grosz” (z pamiętną interpretacją przeboju Budki Suflera).

Three years since the release of “III”, kIRk returns with “Ich dzikie serca” (“Their Wild Hearts”), a brand new concept album typified by a distinct storyline, narrative twists and turns, and a gripping finale. “Ich dzikie serca” (“Their Wild Hearts”) is a story of intrepid daredevils who have ventured out into the unknown. It treats of the attempt to tackle the uncharted territory, of fear and excitement that they experienced million light years away from home, of the metamorphosis that they underwent upon encountering the Other. This is a record of the thirst for knowledge, of transgression and recklessness, of – in a nutshell – humanity as we all know it first-hand.

“Ich dzikie serca” (“Their Wild Hearts”) constitutes yet another phase of the band’s creative exploration initiated last year on “Za ostatni grosz” [“For the Last Cent”], a seven-inch vinyl single featuring their memorable interpretation of Budka Suflera’s evergreen.

Cykada have forged a unique and infectious sound that merges raw grooves, electronics and influences from across the world to create music to dance to with the spontaneity of jazz. The collective’s highly anticipated debut album is set for release on the 22nd March via Astigmatic Records.
 
In the last few years, London has become the spiritual home of the ground breaking new jazz movement. A new burst of energy and attitude brought by young musicians, equally inspired by the likes of John Coltrane, Pharaoh Sanders or Sun Ra, as well as Madvillain, J Dilla, Flying Lotus and Floating Points, has brought a welcomed freshness to the London Scene. This exciting new environment brought a group of young musicians together, all with a mutual desire to discover a new form of expression. Together they created Cykada.
 
Cykada is a band of established musicians on the London scene, having played in groups including, Myriad Forest, EZRA Collective, Maisha, Where Pathways Meet, Family Atlantica and Don Kipper. Bassist Jamie Benzies is the spine of the project, along with Tilé Gichigi-Lipere, also a fellow former member of the legendary band Myriad Forest. Along with Drummer Tim Doyle aka Chiminyo, they were the first members of Cykada. “I became more keen on doing something which has a longer vision. Where you get together with people you know you can work with, people you love sharing a space with and you take your time, you make sure you’re enjoying your music and as that comes, everything else comes”, says Jamie. Trumpeter Axel Kaner-Lidstrom, Saxophonist James Mollison and secret weapon, Guitarist Javi Pérez complete the ensemble.
 
Tilé shows a unique and indispensable role within the band, aside from playing keys, he is programming, processing and modifying the sounds of the instruments, a massive factor in creating the distinctive vibe of the band. Cykada’s unique vibe is a testament to its members and the crucial role they each play in the creative process.
 
The collective’s debut album ‘Cykada’ is an energetic bomb of unique style. It engages distant poles, analogue worlds crashing with electronics, eastern influences crossing with western, harmonising nostalgic moments with dancefloor bangers. It seems that Western Africa is just bordering with Eastern Europe, where Turkish music high fives Flamenco and all of this is wrapped up with the fundamentals of the London club scene. There are so many inspirations that it may seem impossible to unite them, however they make it happen, creating layers of devastation, beauty and intrigue.
 
40 minutes of music built as 5 compositions, were recorded in December 2017 in the Total Refreshment Centre, London.
