The Berlin artist jungspund enchants us today with his velvety-soft and dreamy recording from the Sisyphos opening weekend (08.03.2024).

✔️ What are your musical influences? What is your musical background?

I started playing guitar at an early age and grew up listening to a lot of Stones, Doors and Pink Floyd. In my youth, I got into electronic music via the album Crooks & Lovers by Mount
Kimbie album. Then it started with melancholic deep house by Kris Davis and Christian Löffler and ended up here in a roundabout way. The biggest inspirations that where I am now and what I play was probably 2016 with Sarah Kreis, Caleesi, Mira,
WIDE AWAKE and at one point in Gardelegen... Those were just great times.

✔️ What do you think makes a good afterhour?

After tired comes stupid. Laughing a lot, making nonsense and listening to/doing quiet music with your best listening to/making music with your best friends.

✔️ What thoughts would you like to share with us about your mix?

To be honest, since the faster, higher, further wave, I've been feeling more and more pressure and have I've often struggled with it over the last year. In this set, I played a bit softer and and dreamier and it went down so well. It definitely gave me a lot of strength for this year.

✔️  How did you feel about the gig?

It's difficult to put into words what I felt. The day/night will definitely be remembered for a long time  Sisyphos opening weekend, Gerda's birthday in the Kaschemme, surrounded by my best friends my best friends and favourite artists, who were still tearing it up after me (@kon-faber, @pullichomba, @tvisker, @fabiankrooss, @sahrabass, @ueberhaupt_ausserdem). Never
never had my exact sound running for so long at Sisyphos. Everything was just right. A thousand thanks to Gerda! @raeubermaedchen.

Für Folge #5 hat sich die DJ und Produzentin Judith van Waterkant mit unserem Host Moritz getroffen und über ihre bisherige musikalische Reise und aktuellen Projekte gesprochen. Freut euch auf spannende Geschichten und sympathische Anekdoten aus Judiths Leben in der Szene und von Ihren Gigs.
Judiths erste Berührungen mit der linken Techno Szene hat sie Ende der 90er durch das Jugendalternativzentrum kurz "JAZ" in Rostock. Mit dem JAZ landete Judith dann Anfang der 2000er auf dem Fusion Festival, damals mit 8000 BesucherInnen, und ist spätestens seitdem der Szene nicht mehr fern geblieben. Während ihres Studiums der Psychologie, zuerst in Greifwald später in Leipzig, veranstaltete Judith viele Szeneevents, was sie auch immer noch tut.
Judiths Leidenschaft für Techno war also früh geboren, ebenso wie der Wunsch selbst Musik zu mixen. Doch im partriachalen System war es für Judith als Frau ein langer Weg mit Hürden und Überwindungen, selbst mit dem Auflegen anzufangen und DJ zu sein. Dieses wichtige Thema und Judiths Erfahrungen als Frau in der Musikbranche hat Lea Schröder in der Podcastreihe "Das Patriarchat hat Gästeliste" (s.u.) wunderbar aufgearbeitet. (Hörempfehlung)
So konnten wir uns mit Judith Zeit nehmen, um ihrem musikalischen Schaffen Raum zu geben und zum Beispiel über ihren lange entwickelten Stil des Auflegens, den sie als "slowrave" bezeichnet, zu sprechen und in ihre Songs reinzuhören. Auch zu aktuellen Highlights wie dem Sounddesign für einen MDR Podcast, ihre diesjährigen Auftritte auf der Fusion und dem 3000Grad Festival oder ihren Radio Gig bei Sunshine Live erzählt Judith uns einiges.

Wir von Afterhour Sounds versuchen immer wieder über den Tellerand zu schauen und neue spannende Musiktrends, als auch dazugehörige Künstlerinnen und Künstler zu finden, die gut auf eine Afterhour passen würden. Nicht dass uns bounciger Down- und Midtempo oder Techno langweilt. Ganz im Gegenteil. Finden wir immer noch spannend. Aber Abwechslung gehört eben auch dazu. Von daher wundert euch nicht. Denn heute sind wir ganz weit weg von Deutschland. In einem Land, dass so gut wie niemand auf dem Schirm hat. Die Rede ist von Kasachstan und dem dort wohnhaften Künstler Mark Redlights, den ich während einem Gig dort kennenlernte. 

Sein Sound ist definitiv nicht von dieser Welt. Verspuhlter House mit hypnotischer Wirkung beschreibt es ganz gut. Macht euch auf ein ganz feines Set gefasst, dass nicht nur zeitlos daherkommt, sondern einen schlichtweg in den Bann zieht. Dazu eine Playlist, die ihres gleichen sucht. Track ID's vorprogrammiert.

We at Afterhour Sounds are always trying to think outside the box and find exciting new music trends and artists that would fit in well at an afterhour. Not that we're bored of bouncy down- and midtempo or techno. Quite the opposite. We still find it exciting. But variety is also part of it. So don't be surprised. Because today we're a long way from Germany. In a country that almost nobody has on their radar. We're talking about Kazakhstan and the artist Mark Redlights, who lives there and whom I got to know during a gig there. 

His sound is definitely out of this world. Spooky house with a hypnotic effect describes it quite well. Get ready for a very fine mix that not only comes across as timeless, but simply casts a spell over you. Plus a playlist that is second to none. Track ID's pre-programmed.

INTERVIEW:

✔️ What is your musical background?
As many people, I was influenced by a variety of artists and genres. I've started my musical journey as a drummer, listening to rock music, funk and soul. Yet I was always fascinated by synthesizers and drum machines, which eventually led to my obsession with electronic music. I've started DJing and producing House and Techno, but have discovered new genres almost every months. Now it's even hard for me to decipher what styles are my favorite. 

✔️ What does a afterhour means to you?
I would say that good "afterhours" might mean totally different things for everyone. A lot of people from my are would prefer some hard bangers until the very end of the rave. I, in contrary, might enjoy some minimal grooves, which will lead me to a smooth landing.

✔️ How should an afterhour sounds like?
That's exactly what ive tried to achieve with my set. I will be complete honest, I rarely play as an afterparty DJ, since clubs usually book my for a prime time. However, this is roughly what I would enjoy playing.
