"It feels like at the moment, we're lost in the long dark tunnel. Plenty of dance music seems to operate in a revivalist form, within a regression cycle, it's hard to pinpoint the exact sound of "now" without it referencing other points in history.

"We're trapped in 20th century culture on higher definition screens", poses Mark Fisher in a seminal lecture, and thus, exposes Berardi's concept of the Slow Cancellation of the Future. "Nothing ever really dies, but that's not good". In 1992 it was impossible to imagine the shape of music 6 months into the future, so why are we now constantly going back to these genres?

My aim with this release was to try and participate in the legacy of the Hardcore Continuum within the sonic context of the current world. A hyper-online, overstimulated landscape where our attention is constantly invaded by notification after notification, stimulus after stimulus. I try to materialise this by reshaping sharp noise into pulse, genre staples like the breakbeat get torn apart and forced into a brand new skeleton, and riot-invoking grime chants are repurposed into music set for a bleak now. Jungle, Dub, Grime, Garage, they are all present here, but the heavy gravitational pull of their legacies presents to me as a black hole I've tried to encapsulate in this EP.

"Claustrophobic, disorienting, uncomfortable - ‘Only Time Will Tell’ consists of 3 of my latest attempts to push functional club tools as far into the realms of dissonance and abstraction as possible whilst retaining their inherent purpose as body-moving dancefloor tracks.

I’m drawn to sounds that are insistent, deliberate, futuristic and unorthodox. YUKU have always shared a similar vision, so it was little surprise when the label picked the very first 3 tracks I sent over in a large vault of demos - the exact 3 that I quietly hoped that they would take, in the exact order I felt would be most effective.

‘Inertia Of The Real’ has been the closing track for many of my sets over the past few months - unhinged electrical zaps appear out of nowhere and rain down over a sparse grime rhythm to catch the crowd off-guard and cause as much chaos as possible.

‘Plated Brass Recursion Mechanism’ continues the theme of frantic digital laser assault, but this time with a locked breakbeat groove and unyielding low-end snarl - more conventional beat patterns for electro and techno lovers, but weird and unpredcitable nonetheless.

Lastly, ‘Fool’s Errand’ dials back the intensity just a touch, with eerie pads and disembodied vocal chops cutting through machine-gun hihats and start-stop call and response in the low end.

My attitude to production has always been a rejection of the nostalgic rehashing of sounds from the 90s and 00s that has come to dominate the dance music landscape in the current decade. If there isn’t at least one sound in a track that’s surprising or new to my ears, I’m not interested. As a statement of intent, I hope that ‘Only Time Will Tell’ will bring something exciting to the listener in that respect. Endless love to YUKU and everyone who gives the release a spin - getting the chance to share my music on such a perfect label is really such an honour."

We are very happy to announce the release of the first part of the joint compilation between Tracklistings and Division Virtuel!

A few months ago, Grégory from Tracklistings and Atix from Division Virtuel Records had the idea to create an electro compilation to merge the energies of our two projects. The enthusiasm was immediate - both on our side and within the electro community.

We received many submissions, all of them high quality, which made the selection process challenging. The result: a lot of excellent material and a compilation that will be released in three parts.

The first volume will be out at mid of June, with the next ones following every three weeks.

The project took a little time to come together, as it involved many people, and we wanted to do things properly: respecting each artist and delivering something solid and coherent.

Tracklistings has been offering mixes and exclusives around electronic music since 2008, without compromise, and has gradually specialized in underground electro. It has become a reference for fans of the genre.

Division Virtuel, based in Lyon and run by Atix, is a label that has been active for over 15 years. After several evolutions, it is now clearly focused on electro and electro-techno.
