Hot off the press - first mix for quite  a while - this one's a meticulously curated selection of deep, melodic house and techno - equally suited to a lockdown stroll (which I can vouch for) or a kitchen party(which I can't)! I managed to successfully resist the urge to go berserk on the roll-button, filters and flanger, instead trying to achieve the smoothest possible transitions between the tracks to create a rhythmic narrative - there's enough going on in each track as it is. Hope you enjoy :-)

2021 Tim's March Mix

Like the earliest flowers to bloom in spring, this awakens from the darkness optimistically to form an upbeat tune with spacey strings, punctuated with simple two-chord analogue synth stabs and a bouncing baseline and skittery beat to carry it into a cruising midsection. First tune I made on my Ableton Push 2 - hope you like it!

2022 Magnolia

Built this one whilst trying to figure out how to play the Ableton Push 2 like a piano, but I liked the result, which sounds a bit like a Henrik Schwarz tune, I reckon. Hope you enjoy.

2022 Joanna

Pretty pleased with this one, which is contrasting robust 4 chord strings with haunting breakdowns over a skittery beat and a regular baseline, with a few garnishes here and there to try and keep it interesting. Enjoy!

2022 Adonis

I packed quite a few tunes of different house/breakbeat/latin styles from different eras into this mix on a sunny Saturday afternoon - none of it was planned - was purely in the flow with this one - enjoy!

Since it's new years eve, I thought I'd fling together a classic funky house mix with a nice familiar selection of tunes from the last 15 years.

Lovely little mix of some of the clubbier piano-driven house tunes from the 90s, interspersed with some of the more recent tunes of the era: Alison Limerick, Soft House Company, Degrees of Motion, Nightcrawlers, Hardrive, T-empo, Alan Braxe, Bucketheads - a zeitgeist from a decade of top quality house music, which is keeping me company everywhere I go at the moment!

Tim's Old Skool House Classics Volume 3 - Soft Vocal House

You've probably heard these tunes a million times on a million compilations in their own right, but this mix is really about the mixing. Some of my most cherished memories of DJing involve tunes from the early 90s, and finding the best possible combinations of parts of these tunes to overlay. Even though I was playing other people's music, through mixing in this style, I could still fancy myself as a bit of a musician of sorts, and that's what this mix represents. Well, that and some absolutely corking tunes!

Nothing obscure here, just all the favourites, carefully blended to make this mix more than the sum of its parts. And to be fair, it's made up of some reasonable parts! You Got the Love, Around the World, Funky Cold Medina, JJ Tribute, Young MC, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, K Klass, and the cream of old skool Italo piano house from back in the day. 

Nostalgia City here we come! Enjoy!

Tim's Old Skool House Classics Volume 4 - The Townhouse Set

These tunes are the reason I needed to own a pair of decks when I was 15. This was a time when we got our music from 20th generation copies of rave tapes sold in trendy clothes shops. This mix contains 22 beauties from 1992 - piano-driven euphoria from the emerging hardcore scene and tunes that are now considered house classics - 1992 was the year the rave scene burst into the commercial sphere, with the Prodigy's 'Charly' spearheading a trend of sampling children's TV snippets over breakbeats. In hindsight, I think this was a subconscious, subversive protest against the curbs on freedoms heralded by the Criminal Justice Act, yet ironically it created the perfect cocktail for the new-format Top of the Pops, hosted by the hitherto unknown, but immediately peerless Tony 'Laters' Dortie. Anyway, plenty here to keep you interested if you have even the slightest idea what I'm bleating on about!

Tim's 1992 Rave Classics

I originally wrote 'Morpheus' as a string driven 4:4 track inspired by the synth pads from Underworld's Dark and Long; but what really brought it to life was playing it to Doug Blackmore, and adding the recording I'd taken of his improvised piano as he listened to it. In an attempt to retain the integrity of that spontaneous piano, I put a more forgiving hip-hop breakbeat on the track - creating 'Morpheus - Hip-Hop Remix.' But after several more months of painstaking refinement - involving the adjustment of every note he played on the grid - I've got it back into a 4:4, and with the addition of some more carefully chosen synth sounds, I think I've now got this to a place I'm happy with! 2018 Morpheus (Feat. More Black Keys) Audio Master

Again, not an obvious category choice for this one, but it's a laid-back, jazzy, downtempo groove with a glistening synth hook.

2018 Polaris

I've called this Burendo because it's Japanese for 'blended', and it blends a solid 105bpm groove with some nice strings and improvised keys in an attempt to make something less immediate and more accessible. Hope you like it!

I'm a big fan of Agnes Obel's haunting, soulful folky sound, which has come to the attention of various electronic music producers recently, so this is an attempt to give another one of her tracks the Sasha treatment with some electronic augmentation. Hope you enjoy!

2018 Agnes Obel - Citizen of Glass (Hedgercation Remix) 2

One from the vaults, which I've mastered on Logic to try and overcome the dodgy audio on some of the vinyls. K-Klass, Shades of Rhythm, Dream Frequency, Hyper-Go-Go, Bizarre Inc, Zero B, and a few other gems of the genre in a short, euphoric trip down memory lane to circa 1993. On a bit of a 'ravier' tip than my other classic house mixes, but there are pianos aplenty - these are the goose-bump inducing tunes that got me into DJing in the first place. Enjoy!
