Mainstream has tired the cinematic script of the talented hip-hop artist who uses music to wrestle the demons of his difficult childhood.  But rarely does the protagonist intially reject the art that saves, or even raises them, for being too glamorous, until personally discovering it’s raw core.

But Dominican-born Heightz denied rap’s gravitation toward seduction and planted himself in it’s true roots.  This bold and mature outlook is the motivation to his music creation process which he displays in his first EP “Defibrillator.”

The album  boasts quick-spitting rhymes that fuse the highlights of hip hop-culture and his tumultuous childhood, which saw drug abuse, violence, depression, and jail time from his parents.  It also shows off his unique take on jazz, classical and rock an musical interest he developed early in his career.

Heightz also pulls a surprising punch by calling out the cultural adversity he’s stared down in his personal life and his music career.  While Eminem has broken many barriers for white rappers, and Pitbull showcases his Cuban heritage, Dominican culture remains buried.  Heightz draws out the influence of his Dominican background, blending it with the wisdom gained from his childhood trauma.

“life experiences and surroundings helped be realize that everyone’s life is a battle, and that my pain helped make me who I am” says Heightz. “I’m also Dominican.  If I didn’t wear that in my music, I’d by shortchanging myself and my heritage.”

“Defibrillator” is Heightz’s record of his life as an everyday warrior, fighting an unrelenting, two-front war against the hurdles of his career and his daily life.  Heightz creativity journey explores these life, spiritual, and cultural challenges and his hunger to keep going.
