For the 105th entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, @humanaut-aaron has finally graced us with her presence 🙃. This mix is a recording of his opening set for Powder at Hot Mass in December 2021.  It's a perfect example of a proper opening set, setting the tone with deep house and techno rollers. Aaron dug deep for this, pulling out some of his favorite vinyl builders from high school and college DJ days.

Aaron is one of the founding members of Honcho and has been throwing events, DJing and significantly contributing to the Pittsburgh nightlife ethos for nearly 20 years. His fierce devotion to the community and work ethic are a big part of what make Honcho what it is today.

A resident DJ and key member of the behind-the-scenes team at .TAG, she has long been immersed in the electronic music scene, evolving into both a DJ and an editor. Amid inner turmoil, she captures universal symbols to document her reflections and draws inspiration from her ever-changing surroundings to craft music that connects people. Rather than focusing on specific genres or styles, she prefers to describe music through fragments, images, and atmospheres. Her DJ sets invite listeners to experience a range of scenes, weaving through a rich tapestry of sensations. She believes that music and dance are a way of life—an inclusive, non-discriminatory journey of "finding oneself through 'everyone' and returning oneself to 'everyone.'"

Up next on our Phonica Mix Series is the Lecce born and Berlin based Massimiliano Pagliara!

The last time we saw Massi he was playing an in-store event for us here at Phonica and the crowd absolutely loved it! We’ve always been big fans of him here at the shop for his outstanding productions which have landed on labels such as ‘Live At Robert Johnson’ on ‘Rush Hour’ but Massi has been a DJ much longer than he’s been a producer and the vast amount of experience he has acquired playing at some of the best underground spots around the world simply can’t be ignored. Recently he’s also been welcomed into the Ostgut family with a spot on their agency’s roster and things seem to only be getting better. Massi describes his style behind the decks as an eclectic mix of House, Disco, Electro and Techno. His selection always pays homage to the past while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of dance music into the future. He also reflects this ethos in the studio where he experiments with new techniques on old analogue synthesizers. With a background in Dance and Choreography, Massimiliano definitely knows what it takes to get you moving and we couldn’t be happier with the extended and eclectic mix he prepared for us today.

Prolific producer, DJ and head honcho to 3 labels; we’re delighted to welcome the multi-talented @malingenie to our mix series. 

Malin Genie’s style oscillates between the spectrums of house and techno, often using his self-titled label Malin Genie Music (MGM) to showcase more personal takes on the genres. In this hour-long offering for us, we’re treated to two premieres off such a personal take - his forthcoming album ‘Anthropomorphic Sympathy’, out on MGM in the summer. 

‘Anthropomorphic Sympathy’ sets out to reflect on the attribution of human characteristics to artificial intelligence, humanoid robotic laws and the frontier between natural and artificial persons. This influence of artificiality is present within the mix - so buckle in for a tech-infused sound excursion.
