Dap Kings' Electro-Sax Space Warrior returns with this groove-heavy sequel - an expressive, transcendental journey through the archive of his Indigenous roots and beyond.

Drawing on ancestral memories and family histories to wrap new flesh around the bones of history, this album is a bold, semi-autobiographical work that leads us deeper into the annals of family histories, mythology, and the cultural imaginary.

Leading a 7-piece ensemble composed of New York’s top percussionists and members of Daptone’s rhythm section, Cochemea has created his own world of emotional textures and rhythmic possibilities, a musical and spiritual synthesis made possible through his deep reverence of the horn and the music and traditions preceding him. Vol II: Baca Sewa - is an offering and continuation of Cochemea’s explorations, part of a musical process of cultural reclamation and healing through connection, relations, memory and imagination.

Sometimes it takes a few bumps to find the right direction; often it involves experience, guts and self-belief to trust yourself and venture from one to find another. The Milk are a band that believe with utter conviction that they've now found their way.

 Fuelled by a rediscovery of the music and artists that originally inspired their formation, the four walls of their studio were ablaze  with a soundtrack of Bill Withers, Isaac Hayes and the Isley Brothers throughout the songwriting process for their new album.   From the swagger of symphonic opener ‘ Wanderlust’  to heartfelt ballad ‘ Lose That Way’  to the thunderous blues of the closing title track; The Milk’ s confidence in these songs and their execution is clearly audible. Captured in a tireless outburst of creativity at the end of 2014, ‘ Favourite Worry’  is The Milk at their soulful, honest and engaging best. 

“‘ Favourite Worry’  is born from the difficulties that everyone feels as they move through life, the dreams that falter, the friendships that struggle or the love that falls away. Each song is born from this very personal atonement that each of us has had to reconcile ourselves with. It was vital that the record demonstrate the many years we have played together, the blood harmonies and sibling rhythm section. Eager  to  share  their  new  songs, ‘ Deliver  Me’   was  released  as  a    limited  7”  single  in  November  2014  - finding its  way  onto  the  playlists  of  BBC  6  Music’ s  Lauren  Laverne,  Huey  Morgan  and Gilles  Peterson  - while The Milk’ s dedicated fans packed out Tufnell Park’ s The Dome for the band’ s triumphant live return. The band unveiled their new songs in full for the first time to an intimate sold out show at Hackney’ s Oslo in July to  coincide  with the  release  of  single ‘ No  Interruptions’ ,  one  of  the first  songs  written for  'Favourite Worry'. 

“‘ No Interruptions’  provided us with a tone, musical flavour and a lyrical yardstick to which all of the other tracks on the album had to have in common. The song is about defiance and retribution, emotions that were common in the studio at that time.”- Rick Nunn

The  Bees'  Paul  Butler,  who  proved  his  production  mastery  with  Michael  Kiwanuka's  Mercury  Prize nominated debut, invited the band to record at Chale Abbey, a medieval barn on the Isle of Wight. Guided by Butler, the sessions captured the genuine version of The Milk: the sounds and honesty of soul.

Favourite Worry

‘I Don’t Belong to Anyone’ is the first single from a project centred around the group's visit to Ethiopia earlier this year. Upon their return to London the band entered into a prolific phase of creativity, fleshing out skeletal ideas that they had begun in Ethiopia. 

The resulting piece of work is perhaps Hejira's most audacious release so far: a head-spinning collection of field recordings, hissy beats constructed from sampled Ethiopian cassettes, all encased within a refreshing home grown production aesthetic.

Late Night Tales celebrate their 20th anniversary with the release of multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer Jordan Rakei’s majestic compilation. The 28-year-old modern soul icon effortlessly stamps his own jazz and hip-hop driven sound all over this gorgeous array of handpicked tracks. A beautifully layered blend that is mirrored in the music he’s made, it comes as no surprise that such a supremely gifted songwriter should deliver a mix that is all about the song.

Rakei, born in New Zealand, but raised in Australia, moved to the UK in 2015; he released his debut album, Cloak, with Oz label Soul Has No Tempo, but his two subsequent LPs, Wallflower and Origin, came out on Ninja Tune, the former #2 in Album Of The Year for Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide poll, while Origin was nominated for Best Album at the AIM Awards. Jordan had this to say on his upcoming mix:

“I wanted to try and showcase as many people as I knew on this mix. My idea of Late Night Tales was to distil a series of relaxing moments; the whole conceptual sonic of relaxation. So, I was trying to think of all the collaborators and friends that I knew, who’d recorded stuff with this horizontal vibe. Plus, I was also trying to help my friends' stuff get into the world. I know the story of Khruangbin blowing up after appearing on the series (in fact, I think that's how I discovered them). So, the main idea was to create a certain atmosphere, but also to help some of my favourite collaborators and buddies to give their songs a little push out into the world.
