Zhumyr and Kylash - Modern Reimagining of Ancient Kazakh Heritage
This instrumental cover transforms the legendary Kazakh kui "Жұмыр, Қылыш" (Zhumyr and Kylash) by the 19th-century composer and revolutionary Makhambet Utemis-uly into a sonic journey bridging centuries. The original piece, created in 1838 as a tribute to two brave warriors who saved Makhambet.
Story: In 1838, after the death of Isatay, Makhambet found himself alone but determined to seek revenge against the khan. He traveled to the Baibakty lands along the Zhayik River, where he met and befriended the warriors Zhumyr (real name Sadyr) and Kylash. During a dangerous encounter in a Baibakty village where Sultan Baimaganbet Aishuakov attempted to capture him, these loyal companions rescued Makhambet from his enemies. In gratitude for their bravery and friendship, Makhambet composed this kui in their honor.

Originally performed on a traditional Kazakh music instrument - dombra.

The track opens with lush ambient textures and classical strings layered over pulsating synthwave bass, morphing into IDM glitch beats with sliced vocal chops that echo like distant laughter. Sections intensify with trap metal drums and distorted synths, creating dense, evolving soundscapes that honour both the warrior spirit of the original and the innovative possibilities of modern sound design.

I personally feel we are well beyond that point.

She contributed her gorgeous ethereal vocals to music I had sent. Fellow producer Belial Pelegrim skillfully mixed her vocals perfectly to the material.

The result was the track “Eudiamonia”. This remains one of my favorite collaborations- the beauty and purity of INRGD’s vocals resonated deeply on this track, giving a near chilling emotive power.
