
As ever with the Hell Yeah crew, there is an interesting back-story to the label’s next release, the ambitiously titled Coast to Coast EP. Firstly, the title refers to the fact that Justin VanDerVolgen hails from the east and Doc Martin the west coast of America, but that’s not all…

The label boss first heard Alexander Robotnick’s Undicidisco*track in a set by Golf Channel associate *Justin Vandervolgen. He went to ask what it was and turns out the track had only been released digitally. Keen to give it the full release it deserved on wax, he fully licensed it and got a remix from the man who first played it, as presented here. So far it’s done well, with Running Back boss Gerd Janson playing it recently at P-Bar – of, course it went down a storm... and Beats In Space's Tim Sweeney shouting "This is the Jam"... wow

The track itself is seven minutes of playfully droning bass synths and boom-bap percussion. It’s alive with darting synth tweaks and twitches and races through outer space at an inviting pace, radiating good time vibes from start to finish.

It’s a similar story with the flip – Hell Yeah’s Marco heard one of his (and dance music in general) heroes, Doc Martin, playing the Florian Meindl's bass driven original mix and immediately wanted to give it a full release, but not before asking Doc for a remix.

That remix is released here and is a heavyweight, shuffling bit of house funk with a tight, knotted and tumbling bass refrain propping up soaring diva vocals and grainy, infectious claps. It’s a wavy and hugely inviting groove that has plenty of lip-curling attitude to it.

A fine release with a great backstory that comes complete with great vinyl artwork designed by Andrea Amaducci, this Coast to Coast EP is yet another fine weapon in the Hell Yeah cannon.

Italian DJ and producer Marco Dassi is releasing his debut full-length album, First, Quake Me on Hell Yeah Recordings in september 2013.

Having always experimented with a range of sounds and styles from hypnotic techno to melodic bass throughout his career, it is no surprise that this album marks another evolution for Dassi.

A world away from the minimal techno and tight tech loops of his early releases, it’s a more personal and intimate affair that is layered up with plenty of genuine musicality.

Far from a collection of banging bangers, First, Quake Me is a mature record that works on your head as much, if not more than, your heel.

Across the 13 tracks the album peaks and troughs through blissful soundscapes, dancefloor focused grooves and moody ambient pieces as well as some disco nuggets and deep electronic delights. As such it’s a real listening experience from start to finish; and album that takes you somewhere away from here as well as providing plenty of propulsive moments for the club.

Be A Light opens the album with a heavy kick drum and plenty of wiry, sinewy synth sounds that grow in stature and ease you into Dassi’s world. From there Les Petites Choses’ mines a laidback disco groove that is infused with plenty of musicality and frazzled hooks.

Elsewhere the likes of Fleeting Glances suspends you in outer space as sci fi sonics drift by, swells of intergalactic energy build up and dissipate and huge, thudding kicks propel you along. Swedish Love; will no doubt be a standout single for many with its purposeful disco swagger and shiny, reflective analogue textures.

Reloved proves Dassi does vocals as well as instrumentals as he infuses his melodically rich arrangements with muffled male motifs, whilst Acid Purple Weed is a deep house cum acid track that proves this Italian does infectious groove as well as cinematic ambiance.

Closing on the downbeat, depraved sounding technoid slump of Confabulous, First, Quake Me is an album of true invention and originality. It stiches together a wide array of influences into a hugely absorbing tapestry of textural delights.


Marco Dassi - Les Petites Choses

The Balearic Gabba Soundsystem is back, back with a new EP that features three more leftfield remixes from curious electronic specialist Enzo Elia that have all been licensed officially by Irma Records. The source material for his three unhinged reworks is a track by 90s Italian house duo Soft House Company and two from cult Italian DJ and producer Don Carlos.

Soft House Company released only two EPs, both in 1990, but made a big impact with them: pretty much everyone has heard ‘What You Need’ and that’s the track that gets remixed here. Elia turns it into a slightly more bouncy and disco leaning cut with raw silvery drums, huge vamping piano chords and those classic vocal cries and already Eddie C and Gerd Jansen have been playing it. At the breakdown there is the sound of waves breaking on a beach before pianos go wild: It’s a freewheeling and sure fire party starting track that still does the trick nearly quarter of a century after original release.

Don Carlos was behind such seminal club tracks as 1991’s ‘Alone’ and produced five studio albums in the nineties and naughties. He fuses Afro rhythms with deep house vibes and has DJed all over the world since the 70s. The first of his to get re-worked is ‘Overture’, which starts with tropical bird cries, whistles and loon calls. It’s the sound of a humid jungle that gets slowly consumed by lush pads, delicate piano melodies and stirring string sounds. With a truly magical atmosphere and uplifting joyousness permeating the whole thing, it cannot fail to make you feel on top of the world.

Finally, Elia tackles ‘Chicago’ (a track that’s already been supported by Soft Rocks) and does so with swathes of mesmeric effects. Organic hand congas, breathy vocal snippets and a bristling nebula of synths, pads and strings all dance around each other in reservedly euphoric symphony.

This might just be one of the most beautifully and bizarrely Balearic releases yet from the ever unhinged Balearic Gabba Soundsystem.

Soft House Company - What You Need (Enzo Elia Balearic Gabba Style)

Dimitri From Paris and DJ Rocca have lots of history of producing together as Erodiscotique and once again here they team up on a new single for Hell Yeah. The stunning original, Disco Shake, comes backed with remixes from Luminodisco, JKriv, D&G and A Mix by remix pioneer and living legend Tom Moulton.

Dimitri from Paris is a true electronic music legend – he pioneered his own French house sound at the start of his career, has mixed seminal compilations including the cult "Deluxe House of Funk" and the infamous "A Night At The Playboy Mansion" and has remixed everyone from The Rapture to Storm Queen in recent times.
His partner in crime here, DJ Rocca – who is part of Ajello and the excellent Crimea X - is one of the key figures in the new Italian house scene. He has released lots of productions and remixes for Classic, Rekids and International Feel and once again comes up with the goods here.

In original form the single is a foot stomping bit of disco with organic drums, breathy vocals and plenty of laser like guitar lines shooting through the arrangement. Bright golden chords add a luxurious quality to the Italo referencing pianos and the twinkly, starry breakdown allows a moment to catch your breath before is off to authentic disco town once again.

Italian born Federico Costantini is now a close member of the Hell Yeah family having released a number of EPs and a couple of little classics on the label before now. Here, for the first time, he steps out with a full-length album project that really showcases his style across nine great tracks.

As a regular spinner in Rome best parties, Luminodisco knows how to work a dancefloor in style and does so again with the tracks here, which will appeal to fans of everything from house to disco to feel good beats. He's also half of Studio22 with Francisco (Jolly Music) releases on Edizioni Mondo and generally always impresses with his unhinged sense of sound.

Opening up this LP is the title track Understory: bird calls, humid jungle ambiance and rising synths make for a great bit of evocative musical imagery that places you somewhere hot immediately.

La Mission is next and is a serious slow-mo groove awash with elastic chords, stretched vocals and prickly percussion. The Pirates then offers a playful disco jam with clipped vox and lively chord stabs, Welcome then suspends listeners amongst celestial chords and baby sounds before Equipe gets freaky with bendy bass, blurts of synth and all sorts of beautifully odd sounds and samples that are charming and curious in equal measure.

Continuing to prove he uses totally different sound sources and textures than anyone else, Da Simonetti chugs along on the laziest of drums as sun kissed synths radiate from the core.
Zenigata is a more dancefloor-aligned track with rising arpeggios, twinkling melodies and stirring, emotive synths.

Lavori Forzati is a soupy, gooey number with cosmic ripples and deep space energy permeating throughout and the album closes with the upbeat and authentic disco jam that is Oh Mary.

This album has many tricks up its sleeve but always manages to sound like nothing else as well as making you feel good in its presence. It’s moving both physically and emotionally and really takes you on a unique trip.

Hell Yeah series File Under Balearic Gabba continues its mission to bring some vital, previously digital-only Balearic Gabba weaponry to vinyl for the first time. This second volume has again artwork by Planet Luke and features Wallace next to new school stars SIRS and Pedro Bertho.

Tartan Records label head and British talent Wallace opens up with a remix of Sewell And The Gong's 'Better Words' that has been a real summer hit for label head Marco Gallerani.
The original came on Jason Boardman's fine Before I Die label and is one of those jams that transcends genre and wins over techno heads, Adriatic beach groovers and festival main stages alike. It is "proper Balearic Gabba" says Marco with its tropical percussion, humid pads and watery droplets all adding lush atmosphere to the dubby drums. The chords and reedy leads are beautifully delicate but get floors in a blissed-out, loved-up trance.

SIRS is an artist on fire right now and already impressed on this label with his remix of Aura Safari which is one of the year's standout Balearic house jams. He has a new single on the way for Hell Yeah but first flips label mate My Friend Dario's 'Tellaro' into a wobbly, psyched-out dub disco and breakbeat chugger. The zippy synths and shimmering keys are underpinned with a taught bassline and playful vocals that bring great fun and irresistible party vibes to any set.

Hell Yeah mainstay Verdo then has his 'Boulevardier' remixed by Pedro Bertho, a rising talent from Brazil with a steamy South American style. This one is a modern beach classic that unites both young and old heads with its frayed analogue drums and snappy percussion joining the dots between 80s Chicago house, new age and Balearic with its big piano chords and phased bass all getting hands the air.

Verdo - Boulevardier (Pedro Bertho Remix)

Aura Safari & Jimi Tenor’s Sensory Blending album continues its sun-soaked journey with another superb package of remixes. Willie Graff, Luminodisco and mysterious beat-maker E-The-Hot all step up to tackle 'Bewitched By The Sea'.

The original single has become something of a mini modern classic in the last year. 'Bewitched By The Sea' is a spellbinding sound for real Balearic DJs brave enough to work with its shuffling jazz drums and glowing synth work. As such, the choice of Ibiza favourite Willie Graff to remix is a perfect one. He brings a signature Balearic beat perfect for cruising around the island as the sun blazes with its dubby, swaying drums and more prominent vocal all brought to life with delicate percussion and gentle synth pulses.

Label regular Federico Costantini aka Luminodisco then returns with a mature post-Balearic touch that douses the track in an ocean of dubby echo. Gorgeous Spanish guitars and jumbled percussion form a life raft which floats out to sea under the sultry wind motifs. Last but not least, Amsterdam's E-The-Hot is another artist in the Hell Yeah orbit who delivers a Sunday Bass mix wrapped in golden-hour magic as heavy drum tumbles and heart-aching vocals next to painterly bass sounds soundtrack a perfect sundown session.

Together, these remixes elevate 'Bewitched By The Sea' into a shimmering musical escape with each one adding its own wave to a sparkling Balearic tide.

Aura Safari & Jimi Tenor - Bewitched By The Sea (Willie Graff Remix)

Hell Yeah's lovingly curated Buena Onda series is back with a new edition that focuses on Adriatic Beats & Beyond. It has been assembled by label head Marco Gallerani and features four exclusive new tunes that reflect his summer residences at a cosy beach bar on Italy's Eastern and Adriatic coast.

Marco moved back to his hometown of Ferrara after the pandemic and began spending more time at the local seaside, the famous Lidi Ferraresi. It's there, at Lido di Spina, that a friend runs Kai Beach Bar, a small spot where, every Thursday throughout August for the last three years, he has soundtracked afternoons and sunsets under the Buena Onda banner, more than a decade after the party first started in Berlin.

"The beat has become less Balearic, more Adriatic," he explains of the sounds that can be heard up and down the coastline. "There’s no sunset culture yet, but they like a groove for aperitivo. This selection reflects the music I propose there, a kinda sunrise to sunset trip."

The 13-track selection includes four exclusives: the first is Blende's 'Amor,' which is forthcoming on the label. Johan Blende is a Swedish producer, songwriter and DJ who weaves together modern dance with retro sounds of the 70s and 80s and debuts on the label this summer with his Recess EP. 'Amor' is a bubbly groove with a New Age wash and lo-fi pads full of charm.

Hell Yeah regular and Italian magic man Walter Del Vecchio aka Quiroga also offers a new Baia Club Ambient Version of 'French Kiss' which has a lazy acid line worming its way through dubby kicks and tabla drums, and his dreamy electro soother 'Cala Ventosa' also features. Secret Soul Society, aka South Wales's Cal Gibson, also tests a new EP with his 'Orange Surprise' blending off-balance rhythmic shuffles with starry cosmic melodies. The final exclusive is from Balearic Gabba Sound System, who flip The Vendetta Suite aka the legendary Gary Irwin's 'Della Notte' into a quietly epic cinematic closer with icy analogue beats and a warped bassline for dubbed out late night escape. His 'Island Hill Microdot' also offers some warped cosmic ambient house introspection.

Elsewhere, Michele Mininni features twice - once with Gallo's Tropical Hinterhof Remix of the suspensory ambient lushness pop 'Carousel of Tears' and once with the original percussive pressure and hip-house fusion of 'Urban Voodoo' from his Pop Archetypes LP. Buena Onda veteran Feel Fly comes through with an Estatico Danzante Remix of Pedro Bertho's 'Tornei' feat Mariana Gehring and takes us to the stars on twinkling keys, dusty breakbeats and steamy vocals that glow as warm as a setting sun.

Add in further groovy gems such as Bonnie and Klein's synth and vibes laced 'Horizon Avenue,' dreamy, breaks-driven downtempo brilliance from pub wave innovator Dawn Again, hints of Ibiza cool from Willie Graff's remix of Aura Safari & Jimi Tenor and some upbeat synth-laced house from label stalwart Luminodisco and you have a faultless collection of grooves for grown up dance floors.

Michele Mininni - Carousel Of Tears (Gallo's Tropical Hinterhof Remix)

Hell Yeah, this time in collaboration with DJ Ralf's Laterra Recordings, is a label you can always rely on to come up with some interesting musical projects, and that is exactly the case here: the Italian outlet’s next releases are four "balearic" tinged remixes of a popular Italian chant, Bella Ciao, by Brooklyn troupe Underground System released on a 12” and a 10” vinyl, remixes come from Leo Mas & Fabrice and Gigi Masin, and stunning artwork by Andrea Amducci inspired by Guttuso’s "Funerale di Togliatti.”

This new project came about after Leo Mas played the afro-beat original cover on his Boiler Room set in Ibiza and made it a bonafide balearic nu-classic, legend Alfredo loved it so much he requested a copy, which lead the label to get official rights for its release.

Originally, Bella Ciao is actually a partisan Italian song created during the cicvil war that is a hymn of freedom and resistance. Here it is flipped into two tantalisingly feel good disco anthems by Leo Mas & Fabrice, one with vocals and one all dubbed out.

Leo Mas is a true legend, who was there at the start of the Ibiza revolution in the 80s. He played at Amnesia with Alfredo and since has pioneered a house and balearic sound on many different labels. Fabrice is another Italian with long standing disco roots who, along with Leo and Andrea Gemolotto, was part of *La Magica Triade *and now releases/remixes on labels like Is It Balearic?, Golf Channel, Music For Dreams

The vocal version is full of gentle tumbling toms, cute guitar riffs and rolling bass. The exquisite vocal chants up top add plenty of joyous vibes to the already summery beats and then it just rolls and rolls, making you shake your behind and swing your hips as it goes

Underground System - Bella Ciao (Leo Mas & Fabrice Vocal Remix)

Secret Soul Society, aka South Wales's Cal Gibson, continues his red-hot streak of form with four original jams for Hell Yeah that effortlessly weave decades of influences into intimate, unusual sounds that go from Balearic daydreams to after-hours soul burners.

Gibson was one-half of Nottingham's deep house and downtempo outfit Neon Heights back in the 2000s, a collective that label head Marco has long admired. He has landed here before with the superb Keep The Mystique in 2023, a 15-track collection of brand new curveball cuts built from lovingly sourced samples. Since then, he has continued to collide jazz, funk, Afro, beats, dub, soul and reggae on Paper Wave and Magic Wand.

'Happy To Be' opens with gentle, sun-soaked grooves, swirling keys and dreamy pads that evoke a hazy Mediterranean sunset. Nostalgic soul samples tug at the heart while the track’s laid-back vibe is perfect for golden-hour moments. 'Orange Surprise' is a magical slice of downtempo bliss with hints of romantic vocals. It's built on soft broken rhythms and drifts between ambient soul and laid-back electronica, perfect for introspective moments or late-night winding down.

'Keep On Trying' flips the script with more texture. The synths are crystalline, the pads are sugary, and the meandering bassline unfolds in wonky fashion while soft male vocals bring a steamy edge. Last but not least, 'What You Do To Me' is funky and slow motion disco with 80s synths and reverb that drowns you in good vibes.

This EP is Secret Soul Society at his most expressive and emotive.

Hell Yeah's next outing is a fusion of the recent past with the near future as Nathan Dawidowicz precedes a new album on the label by remixing Dream Baby Dream's 'Korperkonsum', which is taken from their sublime 2024 LP, Dream Baby Dream.

Berlin-based Dawidowicz is a deep-thinking artist who draws on their childhood experiences growing up in an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in Jerusalem. It was there that this child of a Polish-Lithuanian mother and a Cameroonian father played piano as part of religious ceremonies while also soaking up influences from their father's DJing. All of that rich background colours their trance-infused and mystical soundscapes and will be laid bare on the forthcoming full-length, FLUFF.

First comes this remix of Leya Touch & soFa elsewhere aka Dream Baby Dream, whose occult synths, dubbed-out rhythms, cold wave, cosmic disco, dub and trance concoctions made their album such a standout. The original version of 'Korperkonsum' is a psychoactive mirage of shimmering synths, strings and sparse drums that gently undulates and hypnotises as spoken words drift in and out.

Dawidowicz's remix takes the original into darker underworlds with snaking bass and distant chimes. Melodies lurk in the shadows amongst moans and groans as the rhythm unfolds and paranoid voices leave ghostly trails.

The remix is a perfect melon twister and a tasty glimpse of the wonderful album to come from Dawidowicz.

The muted chords are gloriously dreamy and the whole thing is perfect for early evening warm-ups.

Jazz N Palms is Hell Yeah family and is currently riding a wave of acclaim for his See Rodes (Revisades) album on his own Jazz N Palms Recordings. He flips 'Lunar Wind' into poolside perfection with heart-melting sax notes and rippling keys, soothing female tones and dubby breaks. It's a perfect soundtrack to heavenly ascent.

These remixes perfectly extend the soul-soothing pleasures of Sensory Blending with plenty of fresh but sympathetic perspective.

His version is eight minutes of laid-back tropicalia. Slowly churning drums and knotted funk-bass prop it up as an eco-system of pops, clicks and hits add to the steamy and sensuous groove.

Hell Yeah Recordings are pleased to announce they have been tempted into the reissue market. As such, the label starts a new off shoot, PERDIO (roughly meaning ‘lost’ in Portuguese) which will focus on putting out re-issues and new remixes of classic or forgotten gems. The fist one is a newly remastered instrumental version and new Francisco Dub of Giorgia Morandi’s ‘Children of the Sky’, a cover of the italo-classic “Figli delle Stelle by Alan Sorrenti which just happened to be released 40 years ago. 
 
The label has been two years in the planning and all started when label boss Marco was at the Gratis Club season closing party a few years ago when cult Italian figure Francisco (of Edizioni Mondo/Jolly Music) was DJing. “At some point, he came out with the instrumental of this tune, and I was in heaven,” remembers Marco. “It was a super cheap Italo 12" from Ala Bianca in Italy, a “bad” cover of Figli delle Stelle... I asked Francisco if he was up for editing the track in case I got rights, and here we are.”
 
The brilliant , remastered, original is seven sizzling minutes of elastic Italo house with happy chords that reach for the skies. Naive melodies and keys add to the colourful effect and cannot help to sweep your heart and get your feet tapping, especially with the rugged bassline that probs it up and the big drums that help drive it along. The special Francisco Dub Edit then builds and builds leaving the main hook for the very end... when it arrives you will be sent into raptures of Italo joy.

Giorgia Morandi - Children of the Sky (Francisco Dub Edit)

The second Keep on Wankin EP continues Hell Yeah label boss Marco’s on going quest for the perfect remixes. This time out he serves up the most Balearic Gabba influenced material yet and takes you on a trip to the clouds with Bjorn Torske and Fango both stepping up.

First up is Bjorn Torske’s take on everybody’s favourite Luminodisco tune ‘Oh Mary.’ It’s an impossibly adventurous 11 minute epic with buoyant chords dancing over trilling guitars. Lush, multi-layered and brimming with musicality, this is the sort of dubbed out yet percussively lively masterpiece that will mark the high point of any set as it washes over you time and time again.

Then it’s to Fango’s chunky and spaced out take on Somerville & Wilson’s ‘Yantar.’ It’s been the final track of all recent Fango sets around the world for a while now and that won’t change any time on thanks to the slow build to a colourful dub disco peak. It takes you ever higher on wandering lead synths as the fat drums pump away below.

Hell Yeah call upon their merry crew of grown up groove makers to revisit key tracks from Quiroga's widely acclaimed Passages album, with Whodamanny, Jazz N Palms, A Vision of Panorama and My Friend Dario all stepping up.

The original album was noted as Piccadilly Records's Best Balearic Album of 2019 and a year on is still providing solace for us in these strange times. First to add his own spin to it is Periodica associate Whodamanny from Naples, whose magical take on 'Martinica Feelings' made it onto the excellent recent Buena Onda compilation, which is out now. It is a big hearted vocal reinterpretation filled with stomping kicks and twisted synths that bring the funk next to withering sci-fi effects and happy piano chords.
