“In March 2023 I received a call from a club in Pisa ,Cantiere San Bernardo. They asked me whether I could play live with Stefano “Cocco” Cantini  on the occasion of a special event dedicated to Giovanotti Mondani Meccanici.
I called him and he answered enthusiastically.  Shortly before the concert we rehearsed at the Follonica Music School  which he directs.
He improvised with me on the bases of my live.
We liked our rehearsal and a few days later,  on June 2nd 2023,  we played in Pisa with much success.
So came the idea of doing something together. We decided to produce an EP featuring 3 tracks.On some of Robotnick's bases Stefano created an harmonic texture to improvise on. I mainly took care of the arrangement and the production. But what we play is the result of improvisation , with hardly any editing. 
It's amazing how we managed to work together so smoothly after so many years, as if we had never stopped”.

We called this project “Robocok”.
They are modal tracks with a techno approch and harmonically open. Almost a provocation to the staticity of contemporary dance . On “Francok” and “ Frigiocok” Stefano plays soprano sax whilst on “Afrocok” he plays alto.
Guglielmo Bottin took the task of making the “inevitable” remix . He picked Francok and skilfully turned it into a pure drums and piano groove. Just for the dancefloor.

Ahead of the release of his hotly anticipated ninth album as the Emperor Machine, Island Boogie, Andrew Meecham releases a club-focused 12” featuring some dancefloor dubs and reworks of key LP cuts.

Island Boogie arrives four years after Meecham’s previous full-length, Music Not Safari, and sees the veteran producer deliver his most ‘personal’ set yet – a collection of kaleidoscopic, cosmic-leaning, dub disco-influenced neo-boogie excursions inspired by his love of the custom-built soundsystem at Rotation Garden Party, an annual micro-festival founded by a group of friends including his former Chicken Lips production partner Dean Meredith.

It's fitting, then, that the EP begins with a superb interpretation of ‘'Dévoilez-Vous’ by T-Kutt, AKA Meredith and long-term studio partner Ben Shenton. The pair’s ‘AM FM Club Mix’ sits somewhere between classic Prelude-style electrofunk, NYC proto-house and early British interpretations of American house music. Séverine Mouletin’s chopped-up improvised vocals weave in and out of sun-bright keyboard riffs, colourful synthesiser motifs, heady synth-strings, D-Train style synth-bass and delay-laden machine drums. It’s a superb re-imagination of one of the album’s most stellar moments.

The EP’s other headline-grabbing remix comes courtesy of Leng co-founder Paul Murphy AKA Mudd. He reworks title track ‘Island Boogie’, teasing out the spacey synths and languid jazz-funk grooves of Meecham’s original mix and dialling them up to the max. The resultant revision sparkles with crunchy clavinet licks, mazy synth and electric piano solos, and spacey chords rising above a mid-tempo dancefloor groove.

To complete a strong package, Meecham adds two dubs in his distinctively stripped-back, tape echo-heavy style. He first takes on EP title track ‘Dévoilez-Vous’, wrapping vintage drum machine hits in oodles of space echo and dub delay while devoting more time and space to the killer bassline, Rupert Brown’s infectious hand percussion, and Mouletin’s vocalisations. 

To round off the EP, he dubs out album epic ‘La Cassette’, another collaboration with Mouletin that also features additional percussion by Brown. Like the original synth-powered dancefloor dubs of the early-to-mid-80s that have long been an inspiration, Meecham’s ‘La Cassette’ dub features key musical elements – many drenched in trippy effects – popping in and out of the mix, while his sturdy drums and memorable bassline spar with Brown’s percussion below.

For our 50th anniversary we present you three unreleased, hypnotic Acid-versions of PsychoPlasma „Forbidden Planet“, a tune that was recorded in 1994 and came out as 12“ on Tanjobi Records in 1996. We already re-released it on Forms & Figures a few years ago. These other three versions were recorded by Alex Krüger during one night and were based on the same bass- and drum patterns of the PsychoPlasma version from few days earlier that were still in sequencer memory.

At the time Alex was still working with an all analogue setup that was based around Rolands X0X series and cv/gate sequencers, so everything sounds very early 1990s, trippy, raw and was arranged and recorded in real-time on cheap equipment. 

Some inspiration obviously came from Laurent Garnier’s „Fnac“ label, that we know Alex liked a lot at the time.

Magic Words, a new project from NY-based producers Eli Cohen and Peter Hargarten, make their debut on RNT with the Wabi Soba EP, a perfect summertime record. If the title track sounds a bit familiar it’s because it’s been in Harvey’s hands for a while and has made many appearances in his sets around the world. Based around an emotive and dreamy loop, the song basically embodies Balearica, dripping with Spanish guitar and wistful, melancholic harmonies.

Toronto’s Jex Opolis turns in a massive remix that preserves all the delicate texture of the original and lays it lovingly over a pulsing clubby drum foundation. Already getting a huge response in the RNT crew’s club sets, this is a special record that’s got some serious summer anthem buzz!

Boutique imprint Ritual Release announce their upcoming release "Making It Right", a collaborative effort between indie dance artist Woolfy and the producer Love Athletics. Scheduled for release on May 28, 2024, this record is an ambitious synthesis of classic new wave/goth anthems, channelling the spirits of New Order, Depeche Mode, and The Killers with modern sonics and Disco savant twist.

The original "Making It Right" sets the theme with dark, chuggy Disco vibes, Woolfy’s vocals echo the haunting tones of Peter Murphy and Ian Curtis with lyrics that hold the complexities of love and romanticism, drawing parallels between its cyclical nature and the constant rotation of the world. Resilience and determination shine through as the song explores the journey of overcoming obstacles to find love's ultimate fulfilment. With driving rhythms and ethereal melodies this record captures the essence of both classic New Wave and modern electronic music.

Well loved artists Prins Thomas, Ilya Santana are joined by the emerging Boys' Shorts with an impressive line-up of remixes. As expected each brings a unique flavour, with Prins Thomas offering a spirited main remix and a more stripped-back dub version, transforming the original’s measured synth-work into a complex and layered soundscape in the Nordic style with his uplifting arrangement flair. Ilya Santana steps up to the plate and takes things back a few years with his Italo sleaze inspired '84 mix. True to its name this rework brings the sequenced energy straight down the middle. Closing the record Boys' Shorts inject a more beat focussed sound, tighter and more dancefloor oriented whilst keeping the nostalgic essence of the original in their mix and dub.

This record highlights Woolfy's lyrical depth and Love Athletics’ driving production whilst exemplifying Ritual Release’s commitment to delivering music that pushes the genre onwards, a timeless piece that resonates with fans of classic and modern sounds alike.

Toy Tonics comes with the first EP by Paul Older. Italian hero of vinyl diggers and maestro of rare edits. Paul is known for doing some of the sickest versions of rare jazz funk and Italian disco around. Played by every important DJ of the scene. Finally, now he did his first „legal“ record. Four mad tracks based on recording of real musicians and bands from the Sonoton catalogue that he reworked legally and created smashing tracks for the dancefloors. This is amazing organic dance music. Live bass, drums, guitars and keyboards... played in a Afro-American vibe turned into modern house and indie dance that will put every dance floor on fire.

Paul Older - Keep On

The next album project on Hell Yeah Recordings is a long distance overseas collaboration between the Italian label and Australian producers Somerville & Wilson. Yantar is a seven track affair (+ bonus track) that marks the duo’s debut LP and it follows on from EPs on labels like Danny Was A Drag King, ISM Records and Paper Recordings.

Once again this record finds Richard Somerville and Craig Wilson showcasing sumptuous slowed down sounds for serious grown ups. They have remixed on Hell Yeah before now and have found their way into the bags of DJs like Tensnake and Gerd Janson, and are very much at the forefront of a chugging disco sound in their native Australia.

The album opens up with the title track, a blissed out and bubbling piece of lush synth music with dreamy keys and shimmering chords that immediately set a sun kissed scene. From there Melt is a loveable slow-disco number with gurgling acid, Lantern Dusts is a dubby, balearic, sax laced number to get boat or beach parties into a groove and Field of Poplar is as tropical and dreamy as can be. The floaty vibe continues through the last 4 tracks, which range from deep and undulating acid to spaced-out house via woozy and organic jungle sounds.

This is a colourful and warming release that is sure to introduce Somerville & Wilson to the wider audience they deserve.

Sharif Laffrey's epic masterpiece will be soon available! 
Sharif Laffrey has been playing all over the place for 20 long hard years. Born in Detroit, Michigan - he's worked on The Line & at Submerge, toured asia with Juan Atkins and once had to chase a grown man through the streets at night after the man crawled into his living room through an open window. *He* was also once chased by a man with a knife. An active member in Detroit's early rave scene he still lives with the fear that one day someone will develop the 8mm film that was taken during some of those nights and put it on youtube. Sharif remembers booking all international gigs exclusively with something he calls a "Fax Machine" - He says there was "no internet" then. He also had a beeper (pager) and drove a Trans-Am. Not ironically. "I like Acid House." 
Sharif Laffrey realeased TURN IT UP on Discos Capablanca to massive praise, he is dealing with The Fame since then.

His world was a pleasant daydream as he patrolled the seafront. Looking out from upon the pier he began to wonder whether anyone else lived their life in such similar states of reverie, away with the clouds if you will. The dance was on as the waves rolled gracefully in the distance as the boats came and went. He was at ease with the world and at one with the gracious narrative of life. Can it be that it was all so simple? For now he cared little as to the answer.
