‘What’s My Derivative?’, is the new label from London/Brighton-based duo Casino Times. Much like the radio show of the same name, WMD? aims to release music that explores the unusual spaces between house & techno, showcasing emerging producers and former guests of the show. Artists are invited to interpret the sound of the label as they see fit, giving them the freedom to explore different styles without the constraints of any rules. Profits from WMD?001 will be directed towards the Trussell Trust, an incredible charity that helps those most in need in the UK [trusselltrust.org].

WMD?001 kicks off with 'How I Came To Find Myself' from mul.apin. The Berlin resident sets the tone for the release by opening with a dramatic, hair-raising string sample.  The track is brushed with gentle synth stabs and a distant melody that dances gracefully across this heavy hitter.

Up next is High Hopes, the mysterious producer that has not made an appearance, since featuring on Casino Times’ 2014 release on Wolf Music Recordings. High Hopes is a master of programming and the hypnotic 'Mind Art' demonstrates just that; a captivating blend of swirling pads and rhythmic elements that weave the listener through a dream-like soundscape.

London-based Baby Rollen delivers a real moment on the release with 'Tyst Eufori', a peak summertime boogie that skilfully deploys a washed-out vocal - perfect for dancefloors under the sun.

Finally, Casino Times closes the release with the psychedelic 'Bloom', a track that’s been a feature in Casino sets for a few years now, with big drums that were made with bass bins in mind.

With the success of The Vendetta Suite’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘The Kempe Stone Portal’ -  Hell Yeah Recordings proudly present the remixes, featuring long-time friends and collaborators David Holmes and Timmy Stewart. 

The 90s in Belfast spawned friendships and connections made across the barricades; a time credited with some of the most important and significant cultural moments in the history of the city. Club-nights including the Art college, regularly played by David Holmes and Iain McCready helped to spawn a new generation of musicians and DJs looking to make their mark; Including both Gary Irwin (The Vendetta Suite) & Timmy Stewart. 

Drawn to the future-facing sounds played by David Holmes; Irwin recalls handing tapes to him every few months, before he was asked to come on board as the studio engineer at Holmes’ ‘Exploding Plastic Inevitable Studio’. Timmy Stewart, a long standing DJ, producer and luminary in Belfast first met the wide-eyed engineer through his connection with Holmes and created his first musical experiments alongside Glenn McCartney with Irwin at the controls. It only feels fitting that the trio would collaborate again after their individual success and as Gary’s mesmerizing debut album dropped in June 2021.

Cinematic, captivating and flirtatious; David Holmes catapults listeners into a feeling of pure euphoria with his take on ‘Purple Haze, Yellow Sunrise’. It’s a journey through a plethora of sounds and moods encapsulating the voyage both David and Gary have made throughout almost three decades of friendship. The track begins with ambient tones and psychedelic electronics, before impeccable drum programming and shimmering synth work combine to create an otherworldly listening experience. 

Up next is Timmy Stewart’s rendition of ‘Warehouse Rock’ paying homage to the Italian house era of 1990/91- resulting in an unhurried trek through space-lounge sleaze and funk that has one eye on the past and another on the future. The kick is then quietly removed on the ambient flip, thus breathing fresh air into a sequence of tranquil stillness. 

It’s a legendary local link-up. The patience, creativity and passion of Gary Irwin, David Holmes and Timmy Stewart paved the path for many of Belfast’s contemporary dance music enthusiasts to find their way in a city that had lost its own for a period of time. Never dull, and always with the element of surprise, this is the Belfast old guard showing why the originals are always the best.

After the end of the year, south Balearic adventurers wipe the sand and head home to dream about the next adventure. Mother earth is sad with us, but down south, the summer stretches a bit, and memories of good times are a very necessary balm to confront the daily grind.

The northerners that tasted the sun, return to a very intense withdrawn of vitamin D. Next months are tuff but there's hope in the air.

Located right in the middle of this confusion, Kauan Marco is just trying to create an endless summer inside our souls. Like a caipirinha on the beach on a comfortable chair, with enough sun to warm, but not burn. This isn't deep nostalgia of the past. Kauan is looking for the future, either august in the north or January in the south, no matter where you're are his music is just one thing: comfy.

Synth basses, claps, 808 vibes, wordless vocals, and a mean guitar, are the weapons of choice for Marco. Don't forget to reapply some Marco after a swim session.
