There’s something about Stockholm…

Strong musical connections are to be found in most parts of the city, from early days inner city creatives, to the current outskirt and suburban nightly events, where past and present intertwine in a mix hard to find elsewhere.

This is a city with rich musical history. Some stories well known and other needed to be sought out. Some commercially successful and others secured in well selected record shelves over the world.

Focusing on the latter, Skudge suspectedly looked backwards to that well known label with a capital S, also founded and ran a few blocks away from the Skudge studio.

One could presume that the A side, ’97’ hints of a past remembered, as where side B with ’Svek’ delicately concludes the fourteenth release from Skudge.

Sparkle Tube, the A2 from the first 12" on Fever AM. 

Fever AM comes from a Berlin connection between a pair of artists with roots on either side of the Mediterranean Sea and on both sides of the Atlantic. Label founders Mor Elian and Rhyw (one half of Cassegrain) share many musical reference points reaching back to early childhood right up to the present including the deeper, darker reaches of electronic music. The label is the pair’s rawest and truest realization of these influences.

The first EP is from Elian, a sublime 4 tracker that has matured after a winter in the studio and is now ready for club play - from heating up peak time dance floors to trippier after hours moments. Sprinkling her trademark stripped back sound with electro and breakbeats the release sets out the label’s stall to release vibrant, challenging dance floor music.

R&S founder Renaat Vandepapeliere launches a new series RV Trax, to reflect the sound of his DJ sets and to give a platform to artists not based on social media likes or online hype.

Re-invigorated and inspired by contemporary dance floor sounds, after 30+ years as the label owner and figurehead Renaat succumbed to the temptation to finally, at the tender age of 60, try his own hand at rocking the crowd.

Renaat's sets have seen him assemble a treasure trove of unreleased music that will now find a very personal home on RV Trax. Emblazoned with the Belgian national colours of black, yellow and red these tracks proudly flaunt their 'floor-filling dynamics.

The first, a dance floor stormer from Steve Legget, remixing fellow North Easterner Bird Of Paradise’s original - a tight punchy workout that pairs distorted 909 kicks against a high tension string part and melancholic synth pads. G-Prod (AKA French brothers David and Nicolas Gaugain) provide a balmy, motor-city style number - shuffling drums underpin sunrise synth washes and euphoric melodies. Buenos Ayres' Hermetics provide a frostier mood with ‘Collider’ - chilly FM bells pinned against serrated percussion and swirling distortion

Romantic lover of music and women. Under G.U.A there's Pascal, a deep music explorer and dub techno addicted. He starts more than 10 years ago, with his first music productions under different aka, then, the first performance as international dj, and first success release on labels from different places. He's an investigator of sound, music is something to communicate feelings and mind states . The deepness of his music comes from chill out, trip hop, downtempo music, and all the sound useful to kill the stress and bring the soul everywhere. As dj and music maker, G.U.A is like a painter, he loves to describe pieces of life by vinyl and synthesizer. Gos Music Studio records is something collateral....his label is a platform to promote deephouse music with the right dubby touch... dub techno is that music linked with nature, ocean, mountains that awakens authentic feelings hat modern life has turned off. Music could be something ascetic, a link between us and our depth. Dj and live perfermer, the meaning of G.U.A is free from the contaminations of mainstream and fashion sound, music is a means of expressing a common language.

Episode 56 comes next in the series on Poisonoise Music and this one sees the turn of Joel Jah Raven who hails from Calgary in Canada. 
Joel is a “vinyl only” DJ which in itself is refreshing in these digital days.      He has several of his mixes up on his Soundcloud page, (link below) and has been featured on several excellent labels such as Hello Strange, Spiel:feld and Deeptakt along the way.     
This set sees Joel keeping things very deep and dubby, complete with some real nice stripped down minimal monsters.
