Mushrooms Project - 'Fly Away (Grey Eyes)' (40 Thieves Remix)

Having previously had their music released on labels including BearFunk, Is It Balearic?, Electric Minds and Under The Shade, the Mushrooms Project are already well known in the sleazy disco scene. Italians Giorgio and Marco have been producing their blend of freaky mid tempo weirdness since 2008 and have always aimed their music straight at the late night party.

'Fly Away' is their debut release for Leng and, at 16 minutes, is as long as it is mesmerising with it's lazy afro quality. Full of analog instruments; guitar, bass, synths and percussive sounds create a dirty but unique window into the unusual minds of the Mushrooms and has set the standard for their future releases.

On the B Side, fresh from their recent 10" release for Leng, the 40 Thieves return with a mix of 'Fly Away' that once again shows they are ones to watch. Adding more of those warm sounds they toughen up the beats for a hypnotic late night dance floor epic.

Secret Circuit - aka Los Angeles producer Eddie Ruscha - holds a séance to summon the spirit of the dance floor on Afterlife (BIS005), the lead single from the forthcoming Tactile Galactics album. 

Secret Circuit’s second release for Beats In Space Records following last year’s Nebula Sphynx / Parascopic Rope 12” finds Ruscha working the arpeggiators and low-pass filters to a sequentially slavish but soulful effect, while introducing an entirely human element to the Secret Circuit skill set: vocals. “The voices echo in your soul, you feel them there. But are they really there,” Ruscha incants atop a billow of hazy delay at the top of the track.

The eight-minute ether world trip of the “Afterlife” a-side is backed by a slow churning, core burning remix by the unconventional Ukrainian house producer Vakula. Vakula uses his analog arsenal to push the frays of “Afterlife” into even further corners of the echo chamber, anchored by a backbeat, low-octave organ line that gives the track body with which to move. Ruscha completes the “Afterlife” journey with a procession of hand percussion in dub tradition.

Each 12" from Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. The fifth 12" features artwork by Robert Beatty, the young Cleveland cyborg artist behind Three Legged Race and some of the most wasted album cover artwork ever. The 12" packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling.

Secret Circuit’s Afterlife will be released on January 29th, 2013 on Beats In Space as a limited edition 12” and digitally. Tactile Galactics will be released April 30, 2013. More on that subject soon.
