hello strange story #4 (preview) [ HSL #28 ]

Jamie McCue is a DJ and label head who lives a quiet life in the forests of British Columbia, Canada. He is the creative director and label head at Silent Season, a music label influenced by his natural surroundings. The sounds of Silent Season grew out of the connection between deep ethereal music and the rain forests of Vancouver Island. A soundtrack to some of the most radiant and aural beauty in the world. Jamie crafts long building sets, allowing the music to become a journey and unfold slowly. His sound explores the deep, psychedelic nature of techno, saturated with atmospheric ambience and dub sensibilities.

Campfire Stories 46 (Moosleute) by Ben Preisinger

In Hour 2 we hand over to Elena Colombi from Italy who rrelocated to London in 2008 and set up a successful series of parties that made her name on the underground scene. Now a respected DJ and radio host on NTS, Elena’s musical style taps into a wide array of influences and inspirations. For her, knowing and feeling music doesn’t mean specialising in one particular genre. Never one to pander to trends, she embraces the best elements of the past and future, paying particular attention to obscure and undiscovered artists. Industrial rhythms, pulsing techno, ambient atmospheres, synthesised sounds, freaky disco, balearic love affairs, proto-house, and other addictive world music — anything goes and is perfectly balanced in her dynamic sets, whether on radio, in a club, or in her own collection of diverse yet coherent mixes. She had this to say;
" A dig intro the darker, harsher, rougher and more twisted sounds of my collection. Most are current favourites, a couple are classics you might have heard me play out over the years. I hope you like!"

Solid Steel (31st August) In Hour 1 we welcome Berlin resident Nick Höppner who skillfully balances, explores and contributes to a dramatically wide range of musical professions, proving him to be one of the backbones of today's House and Techno underground. Be it through his monthly residencies at the inimitable Berghain / Panorama Bar, his solo releases for Ostgut Ton, his expansive DJ touring, or indeed his creative involvement and management of the Ostgut label since its inception and his own label Touch from A Distance. He told us;
"I remember listening to Solid Steel in its earlier days when the original Ninja Tune roster and affiliated artists would take turns in delivering the most amazing mixes in an almost casual fashion. Jungle and Drum’n’Bass almost always featuered and as it’s the music that got me into clubbing, I decided to pay tribute to this music I’ve loved so much in the 90s (and still do). Enjoy!"

VRIL is one of the most reliable artists in techno. He emerged with a style that was his own and has pretty much stuck to it ever since. Eight years after his debut, that loopy, dubby take on the genre sounds as vital as ever, and most often comes on labels like Delsin, Dystopian and Giegling. A live set from the German is just as floor facing and effective. It will veer from deeper moments of intensity to trippy, off kilter drum patterns that are designed to keep you moving. 

Here he serves up a perfectly mix that syncs perfectly with the changing season: it’s all warm and cuddly from the off, with cosy dub techno cocooning you in an inviting sound world that slowly transitions into more twisted and straight up techno. Whether the drums are thumping or laying more horizontal, there is an absorbing intensity to VRIL's work that proves he is someone who has a real mastery of his art.

Welcome to ZEHN002, where Betoko and Haze-M invite you to experience their melodic infused techno spheres. The London based DJ and producer Betoko prepared two well crafted tracks with Tunisian artist Haze-M for this EP, and both are techno weapons with a subtle melodic groove. "I have never been a huge fan of Eastern/Indian vocals beacuse I feel they have been used alot, but when I heard this particular track I was hypnotized, it was almost like it spoke to me and in my mind I made my own lyrics and story.”
