On the 13th of June 2014 I played a dj gig in Barcelona. After the gig my UDG case containing the USB sticks and SD cards with all my music got lost. I'm not really sure what happened: did I forget the case at the club and was it 'picked up' by someone afterwards, or was the case stolen in the aftermatch of my dj set - I don't know. What I do know is that it did not get back to me.

Those media contain five unreleased tracks of mine. In order to make sure no-one will ever claim these tracks as their own I have decided to put short extracts of these tracks online. In a way it's sad that I feel such action is necessary, but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

this is the set liveset I played on the 4d system in amsterdam during my residency in April 2014. 
Equipment used: MFB Tanzbär, Clavia Nordrack2, TeenageEngineering OP-1, Arturia Microbrute and AbletonLive as master clock, sampler and midi sequencer. 

Everything on the 4D sound was tweaked by hand in real-time, as well as the whole arrangement. I preprogrammed some chords and grooves on my machines though. 

The 4D System is an advanced spatial sound system and the set is binaural (also called dummy head) recorded - in order to get an idea of how it sounded you need to use your headphones.

Bio:

Prolific dutch producer Roel Funcken has established himself an agile and meticulous sonic craftsman, whose output is as accessible as it is innovative. Most recently, he opened for Flying Lotus and Tipper during their last US tour. 

As half of the group Funckarma, he has recorded for esteemed labels as Skam, Ad Noiseam, Arcola (Warp), Isophlux, Marguerita and others. In 2010 Roel felt it was time to express his own work more cohesively. Since then he has released the full length albums 'Vade' (Ad Noiseam) and 'Mercury Retrograde' (Schematic).  More recent stuff are the 'From the Archive'-series, a remix compilation  and two fresh hip hop projects: Ndangr Species ('Night Terrors') and Brmstn ('Ventcha tru da Vortexxx'). Roel's sound is constantly in a state of dynamic evolution, bringing his broad love for genres to live in new musical hybrids that are difficult to tag. He has now moved to digital methods for mixing live, putting all his production/studio skills into creating versatile and dynamic DJ and live sets that traverse genres and keep the sound fresh for today's evolving listening platform. 

Next Year roel is going on tour tru Japan with Videotroopers.
