Etui Records has opened the winter camp again and invited friends and fellows to open their boxes of dub and deep techno tracks. To keep your hearts warm when it’s cold outside, we are about to hand you a musical fireplace.

This year´s Etui Winter Camp starts with the romantic moods of Insect O.s “Sands Of Rainbow” and Monomood´s “Paraseelis”. After founding his own Abstract Animal imprint for some proper techno and his “Parameter One” release on Uncanny Valley sublabel Shtum Monomood finally returns to Etui Records.

“Talebs Swans” by Tiefenrausch´s Wenzel Mehnert is a reduced fusion of space tech and dub step followed by a true dub techno piece by Dandytracks aka Daniel Madlung and Mandy Jordan. Matthias Springer takes you to the dark side of the winter with some acidish sounds in his “Dark Orbit” and Frank Hellmond brings in some analogue warmth with his “Lost”.

The best thing you can do when it´s cold outside is dancing to “Stellar Remnants” by Swiss Alessandro Crimi and the old-schoolish techhouse of Insect O.’s “Transatlantik Chords”. Zurich based Idealist toped a funky bassline with sparkling chords for the techno mood in his “Axial”. Finally Sydney´s passionated techno artist Squarepeg rounds up this year’s album with his live jam “Green Dots”.

Etui Winter Camp will be released as digital album incl. 11 tracks and 12” vinyl incl. 4 tracks on February 28th 2014.

The next track I worked on was something I titled “Basic Expression”, at first it was titled “Amanzi” which means “Water” in English, yes, I am inspired by sounds of nature. 

My aim is to keep the music honest/authentic to its roots and what drives it for creation, also my aim with using my original name is a way to show how proud I am to be an African.

At that time I was dating this girl, she sent me a voice note that caught me, I used. It was just a loop and was looking for something just didn’t know what till a time I was chilling with homie Shervaan, showed me some textures, when I heard them I went crazy and I knew they were gonna fit perfectly to that specific loop. I finished the track and sent it to homie Glenn Hobbs, his reply when he heard the joint was “Darkness Falls” that very moment it was the perfect title and hence the joint name, Thanks Hobbs!

This song tells a story, it’s a 6 minute spooky trip that ends at a peaceful place.. It speaks for itself. another gift I hope you enjoy!


Darkness Falls (Basic Expression)

So there I was, my pc was temporarily down, again! ..this made me feel abit sad since theres always work in progress to be completed. 

That same week I had to prepare for The Deep & The People gig and I was planning to use this time I had to prep for the gig and  work on the remixs that are long overdue.

I looked over my shoulder and remembered Duduzile, baby lam. She’s always there for me, she had lent me her laptop turns out I only installed Ableton there and wanted to finish off work in progress on FL Studio.

So my only entertainment was to create a new project..

My mood was on the low so I needed something calming and comforting. Metronome on, bpm I started with was 90, It felt perfect for the state I was in. The more I added sounds I also slowly increased bpm and 100 bpm hit the spot. 
After playing in the session view I felt I had enough to start arranging. A few minutes later the groove has locked into my heart making me feel amazing! ..darn, I was only halfway of arranging but I couldn’t understand why it felt so perfect in its simplest state. I then decided to keep this simpler version without all the other  sounds..

Thought I was playing around but I was so satisfied and content with it I couldn’t believe it!

The number 7 represents completeness for me. The more I played it to myself the greater I felt!

I’m an earthquake sending out expressions of tremor… 
My fierce emotions, overcome by subtle deepness..

Who Am I?

A question I like to ask myself, the answers that shower my head come in the form of music, art and poetry.

Another dungeon experiment, a project lost too early. The tune starts as a conspiracy, creeping, making you ask yourself questions of where you are, where are you going, what the fvck is playing right now haha.. towards the end it’s a more of a subtle shuffle journey.  

I used the first minute of this tune as intro to several mixes like the mix aired on Ekfm. I also used it in the main hour of MINIMALIST & PRESCRIBED DEEP presents – 04 DARK FILES, which moved its place up to number 1 under Dub Techno chart on Hearthis.

This song is an introduction to this “Bomps’Agden” character, I am still to discover what more undefined genres he has to offer, for now, soak your ears in this melodica!
